Vine on a Gumtree - Options
Have a beutiful gumtree in our back garden but the base of it is a bit damaged....pretty sure its some old mechancal damage.
Keen to "beutify" this a little bit and was considering growing some vines over the damaged area, possible supported by a wire trelace around the tree. Any ideas - obviously keen to make sure that any vine we encourage to grow on the tree doesn't cause a knock on impact / adverse health to the tree.

i’ve seen hardenbergia growing on trees in the wild but i don’t know what affect it has. (i’ve been wondering about growing some up some dead pencil pines in the yard but not sure if it will adversely affect the still living ones if it grows onto them).

I personally would not. I never think vines growing up trees are a good idea, not sure what vine you were thinking of but I know wisteria can strangle trees. I like the look of old wounds healing on trees, adds a bit of character. If you are certain about covering it, you could plant some smaller flowering things to make the wound area less obvious
