7800+ Emulation Problem With 2600 Games

So, running into emu problems with the 7800+. First, I will point out there there are many carts the 7800+ plays that the 2600+ does not seem to like. It’s possible I missed a flash update for the 2600+, but I’m having much better luck overall with the 7800+.

That being said, visuals seem to appear disappear when emulating classic 2600 games. Missile Command for instance bomb trails intermittently turn invisible. This is running the game from the multi cart that came with the 2600+ on the 7800 plus. I believe this game has a variation that makes the trails invisible, but I checked and that’s not it. Same thing happens with Breakout and a few other titles. Assets just seem to turn invisible and not return until interacted with. Missle trails, balls, brick…all with games that run fine on the 2600+.

Known issue or anyone experiencing anything similar?

The " it's not really Atari " argument is so dumb and annoying at this point...

Every single time you check the comment sections of any video showcasing a new Atari product ( VCS, 2600+, 7800+, Gamestation Go etc ) there's always a group of insufferable scrubs going

" lol this product is only going to cater to geriatric boomers, also did you know that the company called Atari today isn't the same company from 1972, lol why is anyone buying this ? "

We get it, you got this talking point from some wise guy on Reddit and now you feel the need to spam this in every single Atari video to get some sort of validation or whatever, if you're not interested in modern Atari stuff then just move on and go play some yearly Call of Duty and Madden trash.

Experience with wireless controller for 7800+

Wondering is everyone who had gotten this new 7800 model, has issues with their wireless controllers? Is there any delay with responsiveness? Don't own yet, just asking, as an unfortunately compulsively driven researcher before I buy any system.

Was kind of side-eyeng the gamestation pro (because I like the idea of built in games, plus ability to add more via the card slot ), and heard that many have had to hook up their controller via usb-c wire, to stop the lag behaviour. So this discovery about gs pro, prompted me to ask about the 7800+.

Atari bought Intellivision last year, do you think it's possible they will buy ColecoVision, Vectrex and the Magnavox Odyssey brands this year ?

Over the past few years Atari has managed to become the top dog in the retro gaming market, the acquisition of Intellivision only further cemented that fact in the eyes of everyone.

Since Atari is on a buying streak how likely do you it will be that they end up buying all the other dead but iconic retro gaming brands like Coleco and Magnavox thus becoming the defacto stewards of pre NES gaming ? Personally I think this is very likely scenario to occur in the future, If not this year then certainly sometime before the end of this decade this is going to happen in my opinion.

Atari 400 mod. What is this?

A friend game me an old 400 computer decades ago. It didn’t work, and I shoved it away as a potential parts computer. Flash forward to today and I open it up and find it’s been modded, but I have no idea what the mod did. Upgraded RAM maybe? Anyone happen to recognize this mess of wires and resistors? I don’t think I can revive it, but very curious. Thanks!

What is your favorite era of Atari and why ?

Most people will probably answer that their favorite version of Atari is the one they grew up with and in that regard I'm no different.

My favorite iteration of the company was Infogrames Atari ( 2001-2013 ) .

This version of the company ( during it's prime from 2001 to 2008 ) was simply unmatched, it had everything you could ever want and more :

They published some of the biggest triple A games of the 6th generation of consoles ( Dragon Ball Budokai 3, Enter the Matrix , Driver 3, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 etc ) ;

They developed and published many awesome AA games ( V Rally 3, the Beyblade games on GBA, Test Drive Overdrive, Alone in the Dark New Nightmare, Superman Shadow of Apokolips etc );

They also did a great job introducing old school Atari stuff to a new generation ( the Atari Anthology on PS2 and the Atari Flashback 2 were great products ).

So yeah this is overall my favorite iteration of the company, modern Atari under Wade Rosen's leadership ( 2021- present day ) being a close second and Atari Corporation ( 1984-1996 ) coming in at third place.

3D Volumetric Display

What if Atari somehow made 3D versions of some of their games for a 3D volumetric display like this Voxatron:

https://youtu.be/pIh98bjRhLI?si=f7atj1D0tbffuYoL

I tried to do rough sketches in an isometric view of what I had in mind. The numbers correspond to the images. These are just a few example games that came to mind.

1 - Pong 2 - Breakout 3 - Space Invaders 4 - Missile Command 5 - Centipede 6 - Tempest

Do you think there would be decent interest in something like this? Or would this be too niche for anyone to care?

Why are people downplaying the Gamestation Go ?

It's gonna play 2600,5200, 7800, Arcade, M Network and freaking Recharged games !

Sure the Gamestation Go is probably not going to have Lynx and Jaguar games ( who knows maybe it will and they're just keeping it a surprise for now ) but what they have confirmed to be running on this machine is already worth the 150 bucks they are charging for it.

the menu shows 2600 5200 7800 Arcade & recent games, but no Jag nor Lynx :(

this would have been the opportunity to have ALL Atari consoles into 1. Hopefully with future updates

Gamestation Pro Audacity Games compatability

So I picked up a gsp the other day and am completely in love with the thing. My only complaint is it's lack of comparability with the offerings from Audacity Games. I was using a 2600dapter with my laptop to play Circus Convoy but it stopped working.

I have dropped an email to Audacity Games and My Arcade about future plans to update firmware etc.

Here's the response from Audacity:

William,

Thank you for your feedback. We, too, have had problems with some 2600 joystick to USB adapters. There are many brands on the market, but the companies come and go. If you look around you can find a replacement that works.

As for compatibility with a system like the Game Station Pro, it is a chicken vs. egg problem.

Circus Convoy (and all Audacity Games products) are fully compatible with decades of Atari 2600-style game consoles. You can play the game on any Atari 2600 made prior to 2023. When a new emulation console comes out, in many cases it is not initially able to run all 2600 compatible games. This happened with the 2600+ which was not compatible with 30% of Atari games until it received a necessary firmware update to expand compatibility.

The chicken vs. egg problem happens when a new console is not compatible with our games - not the other way around. We can’t change our games since they are already compatible with the original hardware for which they are intended. It is up to new console manufacturers to make their systems compatible with the games that are on the market.

Note also that the Game Station Pro doesn’t have a cartridge port. To play Audacity Games products on a machine with out a cartridge port you need our Collector Edition game that comes with a second, digital copy of the game. Most emulator machines have an SD Card port for adding games.

Hope this helps, and keep playing!

I have purchased circus convoy and earned the two badges using my PC and Stella. For some reason my 2600dapters that I purchased to play with original joysticks stopped working. I have since purchased a game station pro and I love the unit but was disappointed to see that none of your current offerings are comparable with the system. I just figured I'd drop a line inquiring whether or not comparability is a possibility in the future. The game station pro is now my daily driver for Atari games and I'd really love to be able to play your titles in the system. Thank you

I'll update with my arcades response when I get it.

Help. Tried everything.

Okay so my stepdad got an Atari 2600+ it has an hdmi hookup. It is not showing up on the tv. Not sure what we are doing wrong. Tried different hdmi cables, even ones that work with other things. Just can’t figure out why it’s not coming up on the input. It’s just a black screen. It’s not saying no signal. Is it because it’s a smart tv? Very frustrating.

What if Atari created a VCS Go ?

Let's imagine for a moment that a VCS 2 is something that is actually going to be produced by Atari in the future ( big if true ). What if instead of releasing another console Atari made a handheld similar to the newly announced Gamestation Go but also included the Atari OS and the VCS digital store in it ( plus the PC mode option ) ?

Honestly this feels like an idea that could turn into a massive success if executed correctly, The Switch 2 is supposedly going to be on par with the PS4 Pro hardware wise, if the VCS GO was at least on par with the Steam Deck I think that would be enough to intice a lot of people into buying one ( even more so if it had the same power has the ROG Ally ).

Are there any good sources for 400/800 restoration cases and parts that won't cost $$$$$.

So my father worked at Atari in the eighties and worked on essmbly and repairs on 400/800 PC parts and on what became the 7800 before the crash. He had sent me pieces of the 400/800 and some random cartridges for testing. It worked back then and Its mounted to a block of wood. Always wanted to try to get in inside an actual case even if it doesn't power on. Any suggestions to source it or even 3d printing models if they exist. It has the 800 keyboard with a long rainbow ribbon cable. Think the only difference between the 400 and 800 was maybe ram and the keyboard ..

Atari flashback portable devices are underrated.

Thumbnail youtube.com

A very dated device but if you get the chance to snag one of these they provide lots of flexibility to play atari 2600 games on the go or your tv (av out) with a menu of 60-80 built in games (plus an sd card slot) with fairly nice button control extras (pause, player 1/2 difficulty settings, reset, start) and a passable built in screen. 2017 and 2018 models have a replaceable battery (2016 does not). I enjoy playing on this device even though i have many higher end alternatives.

Green stripes on boot on small tv: 2600+ and 7800+

I have two small TV’s, an element and a Vizio. When i boot up my 2600+ and 7800+, there’s a horrific grid of green stripes going vertically across the screen. Multiple power cords, hdmi cables, etc. have not fixed this. However, on my 65” Samsung both work fine.

Any suggestions on this?

Thanks in advance.
