Please stay home if you are sick!!

I cannot emphasize this enough as a healthcare worker who works with vulnerable populations, but please PLEASE stay home if able if you are confirmed sick, feeling sick, or even just suspicious until confirmed otherwise. Flu (A mostly), Strep A, Covid, Norovirus (This is a poop virus too. Super no fun) and some unknown respiratory crud that is absolutely miserable are all spreading like nobody’s business through Buncombe/Henderson counties right now. The season of sickness is really ramping up and we aren’t even halfway through the month yet. It is so important to remember that you are protecting not only yourself, but others who may be much worse off than you if they caught something. And if your employer won’t let you stay home, I get it and that’s a whole other issue entirely. Now for the rest of y’all, wash your hands, wear your masks especially if you are symptomatic, take your elderberry, zinc, and vitamin C, and STAY HOME

Public Service Announcement: Potential New Boyfriend = Potentially Best Bar in Asheville

I have lived here for a long time -- too long, some might say -- which is to say I hate nearly everything. All the things people complain about on this sub = me X 10,000,000. I have not gotten over Vincent's Ear closing, and when Max and Rosie's ceased to exist, that was the beginning of the end of this town, as far as I am concerned. Yes, I have been to Bele Chere too many times to count, and to prove that I have trustworthy taste: it was always dumb and I don't know why people have nostalgia for trashy spectacle. BUT I DIGRESS.

Potential New Boyfriend is chic, cozy, elegant. The sound system is spectacular. The service is IMPECCABLE. The wine menu is small but mighty, and they have very good N/A wines, too.

But let's get to those desserts: Jesus f-ing christ they are good. Homemade chocolate sorbet!? I had some kind of weird sounding mango pudding with tapioca -- it sounded so weird and still does when I try to describe it -- but it was transcendent. Creamy, decadent, fresh; the bits of juicy mango on top, perfection.

THIS PLACE IS PRICED FOR LOCALS NOT TOURISTS. I went with a group of 4 and we all had wine and desserts and our bill was ~$70. These are Wal Mart prices (in 2025) with a Bergdorf Goodman product.

I think nearly everything is overrated, for one reason or another, in Asheville, but this place deserves more hype. No, I don't know the owner, or the incredible DJ who played tunes while I was there (this guy had a PhD knowledge of deep cuts from the 90's, and his taste, oh my!).

For any of you long-timers here, remember when The New French Bar -- never really an actually great bar, let's be honest -- had the best vibes and atmosphere, and you wanted to go there because it attracted all the best people, and was always fun? Potential New Boyfriend is that place for us, but everything is actually outstanding.

I just got my car inspected here. I dealt with Keyshon (maybe spelled the name incorrectly I hope not). I know inspections are pretty straight forward but Keyshon was awesome. He’s an assistant manager in training and I wanted to heap some praise on that person for being super professional, kind, and courteous in the limited interactions we had. Keyshon if you read this I hope you take over as top manager somewhere one day and have the fulfilling life you want. That’s all I have to say about that.

Local knitting/crochet groups for people who don’t have retiree schedules?

Basically what the title says. I’m looking for a fiber art group to join that someone with a 8-5 schedule can join. I’ve crocheted for years but I just started knitting and I’d really like to connect with the community and meet new people who enjoy fiber art too. The last post I saw on this topic was made over a year ago, so I’m not sure what groups are still active/if there’s any new groups. Thanks!

FCC somehow worse than Waste Pro

FCC has been a day late both weeks for me so far and I'm sure they won't be coming tomorrow or Saturday with the storm. How the county found someone worse than waste pro is impressive.

50% price increase from Auto-Owners this year. Shopped around & got the same sort of estimate from USAA.

Everyone else seeing this? I presume it's because we had a claim?

Are you missing a Cannondale mountain bike?
I have recovered one that was left behind by a tweaker who was squatting next door. If so, please get in touch with picture, description, or serial number.
I would like to return it to its rightful owner.

Meme/Shitpost Scraped ice off my windshield this morning with my AAA card despite being from the northeast. What did y’all use during your rushed morning ice-capade?

Felt like some true New England trash this morning using a card to scrape ice because I was running late. When I moved to the south, I threw my snow brush in the garbage as a final goodbye to the 8 month, miserable winters of Massachusetts.

I am regretting it now. So, what did you other unprepared people use?

Looking for Medicaid Dentist, Any Suggestions?

Hey y'all,

I recently got on Medicaid and am struggling to find a dentist in town that accepts it. The website is kind of useless and the only providers that even showed were for dentures. Does anybody see a dentist who accepts Medicaid? Thanks.

Looking for local assistance programs and financial aid for my friend

Hey Asheville. I’m reaching out because my best friend is in a very tough situation and I’m feeling pretty helpless being over 1000 miles away in Texas.

She lives in Asheville and after the hurricane hit she wasn’t able to work since there was no power (she works remotely for a company out of state). As a result, she’s fallen behind on bills and accumulated significant debt. Her power is about to be shut off and she is likely going to lose her job permanently. She doesn’t have a car and lives up in the hills, so access to public transportation is extremely difficult for her and finding work locally would be nearly impossible. Unfortunately, she has very little family and the ones she did reach out to cannot help support her.

Beyond all the logistical challenges, she’s struggling badly with her mental health and I’m terrified she’s getting to a breaking point. I feel helpless from here in Texas not knowing what resources are available to her and I’m desperate to help her find a solution. Does anyone know of any local assistance programs, financial aid options, or community resources in the Asheville area that she could apply for? Anything from utility assistance to mental health support or even temporary housing options would be greatly appreciated.

If there’s anything I can do to advocate for her from a distance or if there are specific organizations that might be able to help please let me know. I just want to get her the help she needs before things get any worse. I’ve helped her financially as much as I can, but I’m just a teacher struggling to get by on my own as well. Thanks so much in advance for any suggestions or advice.
