This sub is NOT for self-promotion. Posts advertising yourself for hire will be removed without hesitation.

1.2k Upvotes

r/WorkOnline is a place to talk about making an income online. This includes random jobs, online employers, remote work, sites that pay you and ways to monetize websites. These are sites and strategies that will yield the user minimum wage or better and allow them to provide for themselves.

While we understand that given today's current global situation, there has been a massive influx of For Hire posts or "I will do X for you posts" and it's become quite a disruption.

After some discussion, it has been decided that we will no longer allow these kinds of posts. That's not what the sub is for and those who come here looking for help, advice, or whatever don't want to see that either.

I encourage all users to use the Report button if you see anything like this.

Some things to search before coming on here and asking WHAT JOBS ARE ONLINE???

3.4k Upvotes

I am so sick and tired (as are many others) of the same post:

I AM NEW TO ONLINE WORK!!! HELP ME!!!!

So here is several things to try.

(TBH I don't think you should even be applying for an online job if you cant do the research for yourself as online work means doing your own research and organisation. It aint exactly rocket science)

  • Searching the words BEST REMOTE JOBS or going to a job engine site and literally typing in REMOTE WORK or ONLINE JOBS
  • If you can't find jobs that you have any experience, well then you need to do some studying. You can get free courses on google that allows to explore a wide variety of courses, including: digital marketing AND CODING!!!!!!
  • STUCK? Don't worry cause with coursera you can study with a million different universities (including the USA) You can pay to receive the certificate or whatever OR YOU CAN DO IT FOR FREE.
  • check out these courses from top universities from harvard to berkley that can help you start to understand what is available out there. https://www.edx.org/search

So legit stop being so lazy and actually do some work as opposed to coming on this site asking

"UH WHAT CAN I DO ONLINE?"

because you'll get the same answer over and over again and if you aint qualified you wont get it.

EDIT: this was not meant in any way to make people feel uncomfortable however my main point here is this post and in the comments section is to give useful information to people who need it.

Coming onto this Reddit making a post about how you’re looking for work, your age and location isn’t going to cut it. Please provide some detail so the people who already are remotely working can point you in the right direction. We don’t need the sob story. Just help us to help you properly instead of giving out the same common answers every time.

Thank u for coming to my ted talk.

What has worked for you?

I'm currently on the job hunt and the market looks completely different than when I was applying 5 years ago. I submitted 20 applications and haven’t heard back from any of them.

What advice do you have for me to get a job in this brutal market? My friends told me to use tools like ApplyHero AI to automatically apply to jobs, and Simplify to automatically fill out the forms. What else should I try?

Thanks in advance!

Does anyone worked for OneForma and made solid money?

I just signed up, and i'm seeing all these available jobs that you can qualifiy for, but after reading some reviews on here about past workers, I have a feeling most of these are a waste of time and they pay very low. Is this true, or are there a few jobs that are worth applying to?

Document digitisation

Hey, I've been looking into document digitisation for a while. I've previously done some transcriptioning on Trove and I realised I like doing it, so now I'm trying to see if I could get paid for doing such services.

If anyone knows any good websites, that'll be greatly appreciated. TranscribeMe and GoTranscribe are always full and not accepting new people. I've looked at a few sites but they're not accepting English transcribers.

W-2 for Project Yukon

I was employed by RaterLabs Inc. working on Project Yukon before the shutdown in March. I had my Paycom account set so I only received my W-2 digitally, but since I'm no longer an employee, I can't access my account to obtain my W-2 for this year. I can't find any contact information for HR, so does anyone know how I will get my W-2?

I really don't want to get my husband and I audited by not reporting that income on our tax return.

Has anyone ever tried them and how long did it take to get a response? I didn't get one so I guess their not hiring and I have no experience. I just wish I would've gotten an email saying sorry no. Im disabled and in debt and disability not enough. I know I will loose it but I'm desperate I guess. 🫠😖 Guess a rant.

REV: how long do they usually take to respond?

I've been looking for remote work for a long time now. I would say for over a year.
Last January (2024), I applied to be a captioner with Rev. It's currently December 2024, almost Jan 2025.
Does anybody know what I can do in the meantime? How long does rev take to reply?

Appen

Hello, I’ve been working on the Latana project on Appen for three weeks now, and I haven’t received any payment yet. I’ve reached out to their support team, but no one has been able to assist me. Has anyone else had any experience with Appen and can recommend someone I should contact? I’ve submitted multiple tickets, but I haven’t received any resolution or any actual answers.

I have an interview for Alorica, Friday morning. From what I’ve heard, it’s easy (the interview.) Foundever just sent me an email saying that looked at my app and resume and want me to take their assessment. Does anyone have an experience in either of these Jobs? If so, which one do you prefer?

Healthcare

Hello, I graduated with a health degree and have been working in healthcare for a while now. The job is very demanding in all aspects. I'm wondering if there are any online jobs that I can do that relate to healthcare or if my skills from this field will be able to transfer into being useful for an online job. Any suggestions of places that I could apply to with this skill set?

Have any certificates / online courses helped you land an online job?

Curious if these actually work / have weight on your resume.

By online courses I mean ones offered by universities and not some online entrepreneur cash grab dumbo.

I suppose it's better than nothing but I'd like to hear the common person's feedback on them.

Looking for a job that involves researching (w/o a degree)

Hello!

This may not yield much, but I’ve ran into something I love doing. And thought maybe I could use it to help others while also making a little bit of extra cash.

Truth is, I love researching. I love learning about new and different areas of interest. It’s a nice opportunity to be able to expand the mind & gain new knowledge.

But, I’m struggling to think of ways I can utilize this. Anyone got any ideas?

Advice on Standing Out as a Remote Administrative Assistant?

I'm currently looking for a remote admin assistant, HR assistant, or Scheduling assistant. I have noticed how competitive the field is. I'd love some advice on how to stand out or make myself a stronger candidate.

I have over 10 years of experience in customer service and sales- have a background in admin support. I'm skilled at managing schedules, organization, and attention to detail. But I am wondering if I should learn a new skill or specialize in something specific to make myself more marketable.

For those in the field or hiring for these roles: What skills or certifications are most valuable right now? Are there tools or software I should master? Any tips for making my application or LinkedIn profile more appealing?

I'd really appreciate any guidance or insights. Thanks so much in advance

WSOL tech scan stalls

Has anyone had the tech scan stall at 50% - getting system information? For context, I have a brand new HP laptop with Windows 11 home edition, 8 G RAM, plenty of disk space and hard wired to internet. I have tried disabling the windows firewall, uninstalling and reinstalling the WSOL scanner and removed the McAfee that came preinstalled. Rebooted the computer a million times and tried again. The scan breezes through the internet speed test and then hangs up. I have tried emailing my contact person who keeps looking at scan results from my old laptop that I ultimately replaced with my new one. The old computer only had 4 G RAM which of course failed the scan. I have exhausted all solutions that I know to try. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Law Enforcement to …?

I have a potential promotion that will force us to relocate from the Midwest to the Southeast. Wife and kids are onboard, but my wife is a bit stuck when it comes to looking for a new position so I figured I’d try here.

She’s worked in Law Enforcement for 12 years … street cop, sergeant, school liaison… she’s ready to get out of it, but doesn’t know where to go or what to look for.

Policing in the south doesn’t pay well at all compared to where we’re at and she’s ready to be done. She’d make over $100k staying here. Curious if anyone has suggestions that can even net 75% of something like that and what field she might try looking into.

Thanks for any input…
