If it was a 55" I'd put it higher
If it was a 55" I'd mount it higher. You guys are too strict. It's an 85" and the height is the middle ground between direct eye level sitting and direct eye level sitting with neck relaxed/head resting on couch back. That's my opinion of how high a TV should be in living room.

TVTooHigh: My theory of its history, how it started
galleryAntique crt televisions were large, heavy units that were annoyingly low to the ground. With technological advancements, CRTs became compact and suitable for desks and entertainment centers at eye level. After 2009, as LCD screens became widely produced, TVs became lighter and thinner, allowing for wall mounting. For Businesses, this meant TVs can be adjusted in angle and mounted higher, keeping them out of the way. Nowadays, mounting a TV to a wall is very easy to do, and the idea of having a TV completely out of the way of everything, or above a fireplace, is now a reality. After being conditioned to believe the superior height of a TV is atleast 6 feet off the ground, everyone began to overutilize the technology available, ignoring the detrimental effect it causes for the viewer.

Am I just screwed?
galleryI can’t think of a better place for the tv, the architect probably doesn’t know about this subreddit… Maybe the corner beside the mantle, but that’s a horrible viewing angle from that side of the couch.

For those that signed an NDA
What was the biggest secret that a tv show required you to sign an NDA for?

I think it works just right.
Above the fireplace but my bed is very tall and my bedroom is 24 feet from wall to wall (tv on one wall and bed on the other)

Pool house. Guest say it’s too high?
galleryI think it’s perfect since you can see it from any angle in the pool house. Eating in the kitchen or in bed when the Murphy is down.
