Message from the Mods No, "Discovery" has not been removed from "Star Trek" canon
A post on this subject was deleted by its OP so this post is being created to provide information and context for future visitors on this matter.
The basics: The series finale of Lower Decks included "Schrödinger waves" from a rift which altered matter to take on the appearance of matter from other universes. This led to a host of visual gags in which the hero ship, the Cerritos, was transformed into its "Mirror" universe equivalent, into an Oberth-class ship, and so on. A Klingon ship and its crew hit by these waves took on the appearance of Klingon ships and crew from Discovery's first season. This sequence lasted about four seconds on screen.
The fallout: Clickbait websites and ragebait YouTubers pounced on this, posting articles and videos stating that LD had just removed DIS from canon by suggesting that DIS' Klingons came from an alternate universe.
The fallacy: First off, does anyone really believe that Secret Hideout -- the production company behind DIS, LD, and all recent Star Trek -- would let one show wipe out another (and by extension, SNW) via a single blink-and-you-miss-it reference/joke?
Secondly, the logic behind this concept is flawed. By this reasoning, TNG wouldn't exist in the prime timeline because the Cerritos briefly became a Galaxy-class starship. Galaxy-class starships exist in a myriad of universes, just like Klingons -- in all their many forms -- exist in a myriad of universes. (Dialogue in the episode confirms this. When Capt. Freeman asked why a Klingon vessel wasn't being impacted by the waves as much as the Cerritos, Dr. T'ana replied, "It probably is. Klingons hardly ever update their fleet designs. They always want their ships to look like big stupid birds." In other words, Klingon ships -- and Klingons -- as we know them exist in many universes.)
Bottom line: Discovery is still canon. Lower Decks is a show that has always included a great many references to the nearly sixty years of the Star Trek franchise, be it "warp ten salamanders" from VOY, "giant cloned Spock" from TAS, or "crazy sexy people in rompers who kill you for walking on plants" from TNG. This moment was one of hundreds. They could have just as easily shown Klingons being transformed into smooth-headed guys with goatees, and now that I mention it, I'm sorta disappointed they didn't.
Thank you.

How did Kelpiens survive?
According to sphere data in S02E06, at one point there were zero unevolved Kelpiens. Odd, were they born that way instead of going through Vahar'ai? At another time in their existence, they're down to 19 members of their entire species (might be lower, I was just on mobile and can't pause super fast). I mean it's another species and Science Fiction, but dang that's not usually enough for genetic diversity.

Flaws in Episodes: S4E1
Season 4 Episode 1
Kobayashi Maru
A deep space repair station is hit by / pushed out of its normal position and damaged by a spacially anomaly. The crew of Discovery mushroom trips into the scene and attempts to help the damaged station make repairs to be functional again.
What I liked, the maneuvers to get ship to station in sync from a multi axis rotation.
Where it falls apart...
Once in synchronous rotation, why not use the tractor beam to lock on and get the station out of its wandering spin?
They can transport in once in synchronous rotation, they can extend their energy shields to protect the ship and station after crossing paths with obstacles, they cannot transport out?
They can't use a focused tractor beam or phaser to pull/melt free the metal causing issues with the escape pod?
They can't cram three more people into the escape pod for one trip, considering the first group could run in and turn themselves around before door closes?
They have upgraded advanced sensors which can pick up a craft approaching at warp millions of miles away, but can't detect imminent typical space obstacles (ice, rock, debris) well in advance to be somewhat prepared?
It's a deep space repair station but cannot make basic repairs to itself?

Long speeches
I've noticed since about halfway thru S4 that each episode has some sort of long monologue towards the end. Either someone pontificating to another character or a voiceover.
Was that always there and it just took 4 seasons for me to notice?

Question Why do people hate or love Star Trek Discovery?
Been wondering about this, cause personally I loved it. Granted I haven't reached Season 4 because no Paramount Plus in my country and it's no longer on Netflix. But I really loved Discovery, then again I am not a super fan. Sure I saw Voyager as a kid, I've seen the films, I'm watching TNG now, always been more of a Star Wars fan. So there are certain concepts and vibes that I probably can't relate to.
I mean the show isn't even that woke, other than Stamets and husband but that wasn't done in a modern "woke" way, it was a genuine married couple challenge.
so
why?

what if michael burnham was allowed to live in the 23rd century?
let's say in a quantum reality michael burnham never muntinied on the shenzhou. didn't start a klingon war of 2257. she was slated to get her own command after her tour on the shenzhou was completed. so let's say she gets promoted and gets her own ship by 2258 let's say she gets a sombra class ship to command (basically a smaller version of the constitution as shown in season 1 of SNW)
so no red angel stuff or at least with her and i guess she gets to participate in the control thing too.
so with her life in the 23rd century do you think she would have a stellar career and have her own family like in the 32nd century? (in the 32nd century she married booker and had a son)
it would be cool to see burnham in the tos era uniforms and later monster marron uniforms of the tos movie era.
what do you think?

Commander Rayner.
Why is it the first few times commander Rayner is left in command of the USS discovery he never sits in the command chair?

The first two seasons were the best and changes made due to criticism made the show less successful
I'd love to have a civil conversation about this. I can't think of a single measure by which the show got better after all the public hysterics. Season One was absolutely exhilarating and beautiful in many ways. Season Two was just as impressive in its development with a more conventional arc. Burnham's spin on Space. The Final Frontier was the best thing to happen to Star Trek in decades... and the chodes at ScreenRant and other anti-woke crusaders for more white men going pew-pew in Star Trek didn't even clock it. The clip isn't even available on YouTube--that's how checked out the criticism of the show actually was.
But after S2... pretty milquetoast.

Throwdown Thursday Throwdown Thursday - Your Venue to Vent!
Red alert, everyone!
Welcome to our weekly round of Throwdown Thursday -- a thread where everyone is free to share unfiltered criticism about Star Trek: Discovery!
As many of you are aware, this sub is rather strict when it comes to criticism. We understand that this is sometimes frustrating for users, as sugar-coating negative opinions isn’t always fun. It can be cathartic to just vent and get things out of your system.
If you feel this way, this thread is for you! Our rules and guidelines on rants and criticism are relaxed in this comment section. Have a blast and fire away!
Four things to consider before you start:
- Use all the profanity and hyperbolic wording you like. Racist, sexist, homophobic, trans*phobic and other slurs are not tolerated anywhere on this subreddit (including here!).
- Always discuss the argument being made, not the person making it.
- Rant your heart out, but don’t spread misinformation in the process.
- There is no spoiler protection on this sub. Don’t complain about that.

I was wrong.
I hated Discovery.
When it was first released, I stuck around for three episodes. I hated what I saw.
A few years later, I tried again, and didn't even make it all the way through episode three.
Two months ago, I tried again, starting with episode four, and thought "that wasn't so bad." and kept going. My fiancee, also not a fan of the series but a lover of all other things "Trek", joined me for episode five, and we watched at least one a day, every day, until we finished the series last night. Somewhere in season one, it became a good show. Somewhere in season two, it became "real Star Trek". By season three, it was good Star Trek. And that series finale? That... That was beautiful. It outshines even "All Good Things" and "What You Leave Behind".
I used to say Discovery sucked, but I was wrong, it just had an awful start. In the end it was fantastic, rivaling Deep Space Nine and Strange New Worlds as my favorite.

General Discussion Back to the beginning
It's been awhile and I'm starting over. And I'm so glad. It's fascinating. Still struggling with how the Klingons look this time. I read somebody's theory about all their different iterations over all the series. And that helps.

Question Which episode of DISCO has the ship jumping onto a planet surface or cave and firing thrusters to stabilise?

I saw it on a TikTok and looked like a really cool scene but I can’t recall it at all. It looked like S1 or S2 though based on crew uniform.
