What’s the deal with Dunkin?

The dunkin on St Francis is always jamming and I want to know why? I’ve never been inside because it looks pretty ran down and the drivers are always the absolute worst in the city going in and out. So, what’s the deal? How is such a shitty place so coveted here?

As a newcomer here it’s seems like this is the reason why many restaurants, departments stores etc seem so busy at times: there’s only one of many places. Ive seen the Trader Joe’s here busier than those in LA county.

I guess I’m just underestimating people’s love for shitty food in a dirty building.

It’s one of, if not the, only remaining Dunkin franchises that makes donuts fresh all day, instead of having them shipped in frozen.

Edit to add: Irene, the owner, has worked there/run it for decades, so there is a very old-school loyalty to the place. They are often sponsors/donate to community events and organizations. I have fond memories of sitting in there when they were still 24hrs in high school in the early 2000’s writing lyrics with my friends who had musical acts that went on to national and international fame, as it was also a hangout for a lot of the Warehouse21 crowd. So I dunno, there’s a lot of love for that place. If you want to talk shit about something you’ve never taken the time to subjectively experience while touting the virtues of half the quality for twice the price “fresh” alternatives, you could like…fuck off?

Believe it or not, back in the day it was one of the busiest Dunkin Donuts in the country. IIRC, it was open 24 hours.

At one point in the 80s and 90s I drove a commuter van. My first pickup in the morning was at the Cordova Rd. shopping center. So I would stop in there and have a cup of coffee at the counter, along with Joe Valdes (who wasn't mayor at the time, but Valdez Paint was down the street) and his posse.

I guess you just made a post to shit on people who like dunkin? Why do you care so much about other people's preferences? Unless you were firmly considering trying it out yourself? In that case, it's a generally high traffic area and some people like quick and easy coffee/breakfast. Lots of people like grabbing stuff like that for their friends or coworkers.

It’s just so surprising that of all places dunkin is one of the business places in the city. Especially when there are plenty of other places in SF that make fresh doughnuts

Okay, then post about those places. This post seems to be unnecessarily negative. A more positive way would be to maybe post about the alternatives. Maybe even do a review if you think people should try something different. Many might not know there are better or similarly priced alternatives and just go to dunkin for the brand recognition.

The post just kinda feels like you're looking down on people who like something you dont or feel. Is beneath you.

OP sounds like a first class jerk who most likely posted just to criticize.

I mean, kind of. The way people struggle to get in and out of that place with total disregard for oncoming traffic is annoying, but it’s so surprising that dunkin of all places is so busy consistently,so I had to see what the obsession is. I hate to see what the Dairy Queen here looks like lol.

I like that Dunkin. It’s usually fast, with good donuts and decent coffee. Sure I wish the parking lot was better but otherwise I have no problems with it. In terms of it looking or feeling “run down”, to me it’s not any different than most other Dunkins… that’s just sort of what they look like. I’d compare it to, say, Waffle House in the South.

It’s actually a good dunkin

You’ve never been and you know it’s a “shitty place” how?

People inside are nice, doughnuts are usually fresh, they have other options, drivers aren’t any better/worse than anywhere else, it’s fine. Their parking lot is kinda a pain, but 🤷‍♂️.

Cool. I’m not aware of another place that can get me something decent to eat and drink when I’m on my way to work at 5 AM. If you are, what is it?

Yeah, I couldn’t care less about your work schedule lol. You asked how I knew it was shitty, sorry I touched a nerve haha.

I’ve been living here for about a year, and moved from a place where I had 4 Dunkin’ Donuts with 5 minutes from me in each direction. The one here is crowded because it’s the only one. I’ve gone in a couple of times. Donuts are as good as you’d expect but I do not like the way they make my iced coffee there. I haven’t been back and generally stick to Dutch Bros and Craft for my coffee and donuts in a hurry.

Not everyone wants to or can afford Starbucks, so it’s a cheaper option is my guess.

Old people love coffee and sweets

It always seems like it’s older folk mixed with ghetto people haha

Count me as one of the ghettos and one of the olds. Don’t love the coffee but a donut every now and then is fun.

Yeah. I get that. If Santa Fe didn’t love and embrace its ghetto, it would look like a very very different place today
