Hmmm I can see it, but I feel like when they settled the Seljuks made a unique culture separate from the greeks or arabs. Regardless, modern greeks have nothing in common with their ancestors. Or, as kraut put it:
Of course, but this is fair for any old enough nation. Ancient Egyptians for example are much more different to modern Egyptians than ancient Greeks to modern Greeks. At least modern Greek language is inherited from ancient Greek. Modern Egyptian Arabic isn't related to ancient Egyptian at all.
Anyway modern Greeks are the closest nation to ancient Greek among all existing nations for today.
