So the original ethnic origin of the Portuguese and Spaniards are Illyrian and Pannonian, this has its origins in Western Balkans. Where the Portuguese separate themselves from Spanish is the retention of the old language, which evolved with the Suebi Germanic tribe and later on with French influences. That’s not to say though that Portuguese are more ethnically similar to countries from the Balkan, in fact the degree of relation closest is Spanish, French, and Northern Italian. Portugal is old world and we see that match with Eastern Europe which is lagging behind Western Europe. I’ve been following this silly page for a few months now, all the data is meaningless correlation of poor economies and politics
