Why are screens plane polarized light?
So I just treated myself to some relatively decent polarized sunglasses. I'm actually enjoying using them on my screens so I can crank the brightness to max and get the contrast without literally burning my retenas, yes it's dumb but it works. That is until I rotate my tablet to portrait mode, then the sunglasses cut out almost all the light. The effect is similar on my phone, landscape bright, portrait dim.
Why is this? I'm aware of the science of plane polarized light, but what would be the advantage of manufacturing screens this way?

Ethical way to get rid of a dog
I have a dog that I don't want. She was abandoned on our property and since we already had a dog we decided to take her into our home and it was a BIG MISTAKE. She's a heeler and she is destructive as can be, she's eaten holes in drywall, eaten baseboards, eaten coins, etc, evem though we have bought easily 150$ worth of heavy duty toys for her to chew thru. She's high maintenance, and we both work full time, and she's causing behavioral issues in our other dog.
I live in a rural area and rehoming isn't an option because a ton of ppl dump their dogs out here so everyone is trying to get rid of a dog they don't want.
I don't want to give her to a shelter where they will probably inevitably put her down because she's difficult.
I don't have any no kill shelters nearby because they are all at capacity.
I don't want to abandon her and have it on my conscience the rest of my life.
WHAT THE HELL DO I DO because I can't afford to keep fixing the things she's breaking and I can't be around 100% of the time. We thought kennel training would help but she muscled herself out of the kennel and will whine every second she's in there and we live with other people.

Why do a lot of youtubers have seemingly the same voices? Is it learned, audio editing, or something else?
I recently noticed this, but a lot of youtubers seem to sound almost exactly the same, like there was a character creation screen with a choice of different voices to choose from. While this is most prevalent with American youtubers (both male and female) I notice a lot of British youtubers, and honestly a lot of youtubers who are the same gender with the same accent seem to sound the same as well.
This is kinda similar to the NPR host voice, or the news anchor voice where it seems like every NPR host of the same gender sounds the same and a lot of news anchors also sound the same.
Is this something they pick up or learn, something they intentionally edit for? (Is it just that people sound the same in general?) Similarly how do NPR hosts and news anchors end up with the stereotypical voice? I'm assuming they weren't born speaking like an NPR host or a news anchor

which old artists could make it today without changing genres or styles?
i think micheal jackson still makes it today and even someone like elvis could make it.
don't know if frank sinatra would hit the number 1 on charts, maybe if he changed genres, but that's not allowed.

machines need to be cooled so they don’t overheat, but are there machines that need to be heated so they don’t “overcool”?
I was playing borderlands 3 and the joke on the sanctuary ship having pipes for coolant and “heatant” got me wondering if that was actually a thing.

What does the Kirkland prune motto, “the taste is in the shape” mean?
We got a bag of prunes from Costco and on the bag, next to some prunes, it says “the taste is in the shape”. We cannot figure out what this is supposed to mean.

How do towns decide on the tradeoff between having a large amount of small hospitals / fire halls / police stations, etc... and having a small amount of larger ones?
There are fire halls with room for multiple fire engines. If a fire hall has [n] fire engines, what purposes does it serve to have one building with [n] fire engines instead of [n] buildings spread out with 1 fire engine each? Doesn't that improve the odds one of them will get to the fire in time?
To a lesser extent, I wonder a similar thing about police stations and hospitals, though I assume when one is handling physical evidence of a crime or of a patient's injury there's somewhat more value in getting to talk in person instead of over Zoom or Skype. Still, how do they calculate the tradeoff between that and the value of having a small hospitals or police stations spread out so that ambulances and police cars are closer to their associated emergency? (Yes, many of the latter are out on patrol, but typically not the former...)

How does a show like "Top Gear" skirt the BBC's rules against product placement?
The show is almost exclusively about consumer automobiles; it's practically a live action car magazine. The hosts even receive kickbacks directly from manufacturers for purposes of reviewing and promoting their cars. Doesn't this violate the BBC's rules regarding product placement and editorial integrity? How has the show been allowed to broadcast for over 20 years despite this?
[Disclaimer: Apologies for my stupidity, I'm from the Colonies.]

What is it called when someone doesn't technically lie for example...
I ask someone "is that angie from work on the phone?". They say no it's not. "well who is it then?" they say its not angie from work. Eventually it comes out that it was angie, but she's from college and they don't know an angie in work.
Another example is like I say "Dave told me you found some money in the gutter today" "No I didn't." "So Dave is lying?" "Yes." "Did you find money today?" "Yes I did, but it wasn't in the gutter, it was on the pavement.".
Another similar, maybe different type of lie one is if I ask a question like "did you speak to Anne today?" And while looking at them I get no response. So I ask again. Then they get annoyed and tell me they "said yes already", when "I say I was looking at you and you did not" they refuse to admit they didn't reply and claim that I must be blind/deaf.
Is this normal behaviour? Is there a name for this? Like technically telling the truth? The third one seems like gaslighting to me, or trying to argue. Am I right that I find this extremely annoying.

If AI turned against humans could we not just turn off all of the power and the threat would disappear?
I understand this would shut down the worlds economy and life as we know it, but without the hardware is AI not fully dependant on humans to keep the lights on, so to speak.

How big would an eye have to be to take up the whole sky yet be recognizable as an eye to an average human on the ground?
I’ve listened to and seen a horror tropes where the terrible outcome of a series of events is an enormous eye gazing upon all of humanity on the ground (Three Body Problem and Magnus Archives).
What would be the dimensions of such an eye? Assuming such advanced or eldritch beings existed to form it.
This seemed like the most sensible place to ask the question. Let me know if I’m wrong, please!

Are twins less likely to have autism?
From what I understand of autism its related to a child's social development. Wouldn't twins have great social development due to the fact they have someone to constantly socialize with?
Do twins have a lower incidence of autism?
