I feel such an evil sense of schadenfreude visiting this subreddit and watching these fuckers eat their own words. I'm a liberal Californian, and I voted for your rights, conservatives. I make six figures, work remotely in a professional occupation, and my lifestyle is guaranteed no matter what. Now poor people are fucked solely because other poor people, who are soulless and have zero shred of empathy, wanted to destroy other poors. Why..? Because fuck woke people making us use pronouns and fuck brown people.

I’m so with you. My hubby and I vote Dem. But we’re a cisgender, heterosexual, white, Christian married couple. We’re middle aged (mid 50s), own our home, have manageable debt, put our 3 kids through college so they have no debt and have retirement investments. Hubby is retired military (Lt Col) with significant retirement pay, tricare health insurance and a six figure current job. We’re going to be fine under Trump. May even do better financially, who knows? We can protect our kids.

But Trump a total POS and my hubby won’t even hang up his retirement certificate because Trump was his CIC and it has his signature. He represents everything we despise politically, morally and civilly. We’re both tired of caring more about the rights of those who either despise or criticize us. Or those who will be hurt by Trump and his cadre and decided to stay home or vote third party despite what was at stake. It’s been exhausting since he came down that escalator almost a DECADE ago. My hubby has practically turned nihilistic and doesn’t care what happens to maga voters at this point.

Money alone can't protect you in a fascist world. If a hurricane or other natural disaster came along and swept your home away, you couldn't just rebuild it by yourselves with your three children. You would need materials, other people to help you. If angry, disenfranchised people started standing outside where you shop for food, shooting randomly at people going in, you couldn't protect yourself from that. If the rest of the world turns away from the US the way we have from Russia, you couldn't protect yourselves from that. You voted for your well-being AND the well-being of others. So your vote was never a waste.

I don’t view it as a waste at all. I’ll do it again in 2026 and 2028. But it is exhausting.

And I wasn’t relying on money alone. I have privilege in my marital status, race, religion, gender, sexuality. Monetary stability is just one aspect. Obviously we’re not billionaire oligarchs but we’re in a “safer” position than many of those who voted for the policies which will hurt them. They’ll lose their homes, healthcare, jobs, etc before we will. We have lived overseas before, have friends and family, and could move if needed. There’s no fear of not living here.

We’re also in a blue state, one of the bluest really for all we’re a huge business state. That’s a layer of protection as opposed to living in Mississippi (did that, don’t recommend) or Texas. And Delaware is damp but there are virtually no hurricanes or tornadoes, no wildfires or floods. I rode out Katrina in Biloxi and will be happy to avoid hurricanes the rest of my life, god willing. And, we actually do have two guns but hopefully will need them for target shooting more than the collapse of society.
