Discussion/Question Which presidents (all time) do you respect as a native/ is somewhat respected by natives in general?
I don't ask this disrespectfully...I'm just intrigued
As far as I understand...almost every president pre coolidge did something negative towards natives
Then coolidge was the first known president to openly advocate for native rights most famously the passing of the "citizenship act" (i understand that this is viewed partly negative because he never actually took into account what natives wanted and more was on the side of assimilation)
1 year post coolidge...Charles curtis becomes first and only native American vice president (openly was in favour of assimilation) is he viewed positively?
Of course nixon is the one who surprisingly did alot of positive work...is this true?
Is there anyone else who is respected?
Who do you think did a reasonable job?
