You’re not dumb, it’s political compass memes AKA the sub where openly calling yourself a fascist is based and where self proclaimed “anarcho communists” talk about how trump is actually a working class hero and that trans people are the problem. If anything deserves to be nuked, it’s that
“According to Emma Goldmans treatise on the states monopolization of violence I uh.. uhm.. you know.. uh…….. so trans people” is basically the vibe of the “anarchists” there
Well nobody on that sub is actually an anarcho communist. It’s either feds or right wingers posing. They know basics like kropotkin and Bakunin but they don’t really understand it which says to me they’re just bad actors. I’m not even an anarchist and I’ve probably read more anarchist theory than the “anarchists” on that sub
I'm no Reddit strategist, but surely it's best just to let them sit there instead of being forced to leave and infecting our 'good' subreddits?

Nah, that never worked and deplatforming has always been the most effective means.
By letting them keep their little shithead corner on a popular website, you allow them a space to proudly proclaim their shitheadedness, and grow by finding more shitheads and converting people already on the platform into shitheads.
Every time you nuke a group like that you scatter them, with only a chunk being able to organize into a new, now smaller group, ones that try to infect normal spaces usually get immediately put in their place by more well adjusted people already there, and some will leave the website altogether and go to more obscure ones where they'll have harder time recruiting.
Absolutely not. It provides them an echo chamber to amplify and embolden intolerant views that normal civilized society would shut down, like blatant racism, sexism, homophobia.
Like say a 14-year-old stumbles upon a sub supposedly for gaming memes and it’s just a circlejerk of dudes shitting on women in video games that don’t adhere to their conventional beauty standards. The teen will just see everyone in the sub cheering on the misogyny, and anyone speaking out for women will be shut down, thus promoting intolerance. If the same shit were posted elsewhere it would rightfully be shut down for being wildly misogynistic, and the teen would see that’s not okay.
That’s basically what happened with 4chan. The ironic edgelord teenagers left when they realized other people were being serious, and it festered from there.
Silencing people's voices prevents discussion that could push people out of radical beliefs. People like you advocating and celebrating the removal of these subreddits are just further radicalizing those kind of people and making this problem worse. This mentality is why we're stuck with Trump for the next 4 years...
"It's important we allow debate over questions like "Should brown people have rights?" Otherwise, we are equally bad as the nazis and deserve whatever final solution the wish to impose. I am very smart."
-Aggravating-Role2004, living up to their username.
Yes. They have less to lose, the only thing they potentially give up is being racist. If minorities are not vigilant about not allowing phobia to find ground then what we lose is our fundamental right to existence. So you can maybe see how positioning yourself in the middle between "both camps" might garner very different reactions.
(Please note that while this is a deliberately civil answer to your statement, I think the person before me is completely within their rights to refuse spending energy on 'civil debates' with people who think racism is debatable)
Uh, has Twitter become less radical or bigoted since the free speech people took over? Humans are not inherently logical or truth-seeking. For bigots and idiots, being openly sexist and racist is fun and cathartic, and the more you allow it socially the worse it’ll get.
If this subreddit is any indication of the response people have to bigotry online then the dialog being had is often not productive. But you're right tho, there's obviously going to be people who just like stirring the pot but we wouldn't have people leaning right en mass without reason. The fact I could talk about the woke=bad game arguments on gaming memes with minimal hostility instantly endeared me to that place. Any conversation here is a shit show.
Ah yes, we should let racist be racist and have their own place. Totally worked for the British and French against the nazis in the 1930s and 40s.....
Also you make no sense. Saying that we silencing them is preventing discussion that could push them out of their beliefs makes no sense. They just spew racist, sexist, and homophobic views. When you try to have a discussion they simply call you immoral and a pedophile or communist.
Saying that this is why we have trump for another 4 years is just plain dumb. We have trump due to a lack of policy and strong politicians willing to give people what they want and need. There was a chance to codify roe v wade, and it wasn't done. There were chances to fully decriminalize and change the laws on weed, it wasn't done. There were plenty of chances to change a lot of things whenever the majority of the government was controlled by the dems, and they didn't do anything.
America is controlled by 2 parties but the majority of people are in the middle. Swing voters are the majority and they are needed to obtain power. Trump barely won the popular vote and Republicans spent the last 4 years winning state wide elections and changing laws to make voting harder and gerrymander the hell out of more and more districts.
No trump isn't here for 4 years because we push out racist and evil people. Trump is here because people won't vote and idiots like you spend time blaming everyone instead of doing something.
The lack of reading comprehension I'm seeing is hilarious. I never said anything like that, I said the point of the meme is proven because the sub seems to be celebrating and gloating over it
Except no. The point of the meme is celebrating because we took it down. In fact, the post explicitly says that.
You are the one lacking reading comprehension if you think there is no difference between celebrating something you did yourself and celebrating someone hoisting their own petard.
noun: joke; plural noun: jokes
a thing that someone says to cause amusement or laughter, especially a story with a funny punchline.
"she was in a mood to tell jokes"

A*m*n*o*d subreddit would be long gone if that were true
