Frugal Engagement Rings 🏆 Buy It For Life

I'm going to propose to my girlfriend. I'm thinking about something in the $1000-$1500 range.

How can I find an engagement ring at a good price and not get ripped off?

EDIT: I'm just going through all the responses now, and just wanted to say thank you so much for all the input I really appreciate it!!

Lab-made diamonds are your friends here.

Lab-made and buying directly from an online wholesaler saves a shit ton. The lab made diamond I bought from the wholesaler cost me like $1300 I think. If I were to buy the exact same diamond from the jeweler, it would have been like $4500. I used loosegrowndiamond.com.

I then took that diamond to a jeweler and paid for the ring and for them to set the diamond in place. Cost like a couple hundred.
