I'm going to propose to my girlfriend. I'm thinking about something in the $1000-$1500 range.

How can I find an engagement ring at a good price and not get ripped off?

Talk to her or get a tight liped freind to. There are so many more fungal gems than diamonds. Maybe look into the two of your birthstones? Also maybe look into a unique setting and band. I've seen many that make smaller stones just one part of a beautiful piece. That look much better than even some celebrities coin machine looking massively expensive diamonds.
