Yeah, it doubled as a memory card and could earn you items in your FF8 save game.

If you get the old NOT Remastered version of VIII for PC you can play it. It’s called Chocobo World and it’s just a separate little program on your pc. It’s real kyoot and adorable.

It was never released in the PAL region afaik, possibly not in America either. It was annoying at the time as 2 summons and the means to use them (Chocobo and Phoenix) were locked behind it for the main game. You could get the material to summon them once in game but to replenish it you needed the pocketstation.
