This is standard nerd culture gatekeeping. They’re insecure in their real life so they flex their non-existent muscles over their hobbies.

you can be a true fan if you played just one game even. And I say this as a die-hard 14 player. You don’t have to play it. It’s a different kind of beast and not everyone is obligated to play it. In fact half of the player base for it if not most never touched an offline FF game in their lives. They play it because it’s an MMO.

My 22 year old niece never played a FF game in her life and when she beat XVI this year for the first time she fell in love with the game.

she asked me once that if it’s weird she never played any other game considering it’s a huge series, I said no. She is a TRUE fan like any other of us! FF is just so diverse and different, but what makes it FF is the fact that IT IS FF.

There’s a first time for everyone. The process of finding a franchise and trying it out isn’t linear. I don’t understand why people are bothered by it. Do it however you feel like doing it. Same with music. Or with clothes. Or whatever in life.
