Good Outdoor Ranges in South Florida?

Are there any good outdoor shooting ranges in South Florida that don't have overly restrictive rules like Trail Glades or Markham Park?

Homestead Shooting Center.

What do you consider "restrictive?"

Now if you rent a bay, basically zero restrictions. If you think any "Public Bay" will give you free reign, well then.

I am a RSO there so I can answer any questions.

I meant compared to, say, Trail Glades Range, where you have to wait a long time between shots.

If I become a member, what would it cost to rent a bay, which I assume would also require paying for an RSO?

Ok. 25 and 100 yd range, it is 1 shot every 2 secs. Rapid Fire is pairs. If the range is slow, most RSOs will allow less than 2 secs if you can shoot. Even 3-4 shots. On weekends, depends.

100 yd, kinda same thing. I work the 100 and if you can shoot, 1 sec per shot if slow. Again we HAVE discretionary call. But we have rules. If you a Member, you can “rapid fire” (pairs) and holster draw, after RSO approval. The RSOs and the Range are fair. Just be respectful and you could have more leeway. But our “Public Ranges” are not training ranges. Rent a bay and you can basically due what you want, within some simple rules and boundaries.

Come try us out and see what you think.

It’s $50 to rent a bay for half a day (4 hours: 8am- 12pm and 1pm-5pm) if you’re a member.

If you don’t have your RSO cert, you’ll have to pay for an RSO and those are $40/hour. So you’ll have to pay $160 to rent an RSO for your bay time on top of the $50 fee

On the flip side, I believe the RSO certification course that HTC teaches costs $175.

Get your RSO cert. it’s worth it.

Here’s a link to the pricing: https://www.shoothtc.com/info/pricing-and-rates

Okeechobee shootings sports is excellent and Fudd free but still very safe.

Immokalee and Immokalee only. Used to have an HTC membership, been to Okeechobee a few times, I have no interest in going back to either.

Immokalee you book your bay online before you show up and you get the entire bay to yourself to do whatever you want. No RSO cert needed and no extra bullshit.

Ooh, that sounds interesting. Couple hour drive from Miami but I like that you can get a day pass without paying the steep membership fee.

Can you have more than one person per bay and do they charge for the extra shooters?

And without an RSO, how do shooters coordinate to walk out to set up and retrieve targets (without getting shot)?

For individuals without a membership, each individual pays by the hour ($20/hr per person).

Now for the cool part - the bay is an entire shooting range for yourself/buddies. They have either 50 yard or 100 yard options. Each bay already has a few steel targets, and stands for paper targets.

It's not just a shooting lane. It's an entire area, enclosed with a berm on three sides.

You and your friends will be the only ones in the bay. So just communicate when walking down range.

That sounds awesome. Weird, because the photo on their website just shows a long row of tables for shooters sharing the same range.

I think that's the long distance range. The bays are where it's at for me :)

Ah, that makes sense. Just wish this place wasn't so far.

Even for shooting with rifles? Like an AR?

Yes, you can shoot whatever caliber you like in the 50 & 100 yard bays. Even 50 cal.

I have a love hate relationship with Markus park. I like to use that range if I’m zeroing a weapon or trying some new ammo for accuracy. At the same time hate it because the RSO will get on you for the 1 shot every 5 seconds if they think you are shooting too quick.

I went and got my RSO cert and insurance for the year, just to rent bays out and not have anyone telling me what to do

I see that the RSO cert is fairly reasonable in cost and only takes a day in class. Didn't know about the insurance. What's that about and what does that cost?

Almost all the ranges want you to have your own liability insurance if you want to use their range. It essentially covers you as a person that has other people using the range under your supervision.

I called around after finding out the ranges required it in order for me act as an RSO and rent out my own bay. It cost me 195.00 for the year.

I’d also recommend HTC and Okeechobee. To rent a bay at either location, you need to be RSO-certified or have one of their RSOs with you. The rates are pretty reasonable, especially if you’re going with a group. The public bays at both places are solid as well. I could be mistaken, but I think they’re the only two ranges that let you draw from a holster in the public bays.

Okeechobee, you also have to have insurance. I had to get it in order to rent a bay with myself as the RSO.

Just get the RSO cert at HTC for like 150 then you can rent the bay on your own. Definitely worth it

Immokalee shooting range. Not very close to Miami but every time i go people come over from that area. Biggest range Im aware of in the state

Without RSOs, how do shooters coordinate when to stop shooting so they can set up new targets?

Only one of the ranges there (the super long one) has this issue. I think they call a ceasefire, clear everything and get everyone away from the line. Then they take the Gator down to do whatever.
