Za Cart Pizza burglarized over the holidays. Support Jeff! Food
Za Cart Pizza was burglarized over the holidays.
Anyone who knows the owner Jeff knows how selfless and kind he is to his customers, spotting em free pizza if they're short and being a pillar of the 13th ave community in general.
Unfortunately, he was taken advantage of during a vulnerable time. True to his nature, he's not even pointing fingers or blaming anyone, but it has set him back financially.
If you need a pizza this week, go buy some Za Cart and leave a nice tip if you can! I'm just a customer trying to spread the word outside of Facebook.
37 W 13th Ave Eugene, OR 97401 (Right next to Fieldhouse, formally Big City)
541-514-3621 (Wait time for a whole pie is 20-45 min depending on how busy)
Hours vary but typically are:
Sun-Thurs 11am-11pm
Fri-Sat 11am-2am

I love Za!! I personally have also witnessed him giving a slice to those in need, he’s such a great dude. And for my fellow olive lovers he will absolutely hook you up when you want a disgusting amount of olives on your slice.

Legit one of the nicest dudes I've ever met. I can't remember how many times he preferred my partner to pay for pizza in art rather than currency. One of the characters of Eugene that makes me happy and proud to live here. Hopefully we can help now and return that kindness.

Yes! He is such an amazing person and so kind. This could not have happened to a more caring person.

Moved here back in October with a couple buddies, and he has fed me for free everytime I’ve gone over there. Selfless action. Incredible human. Need more people like him. People are desperate out here, but robbery and crime don’t discriminate. God bless Jeff and everything he’s done for this community. Guy is a legend, for the best reasons.

Jeff is one of the best people on earth. I’m so sorry this happened to him. We will pick up some Za this weekend.

Jeff is genuinely one of the kindest people I've ever met, this sucks. Will be getting some slices this week! Hands down the best pizza in Eugene too.

Wow! Gonna try and get some Za this week, I love his pizza and he's so kind, one time I went there with my partner and we could only afford one slice, I didn't mention it or anything, he said there was an extra slice and gave us one for free. Such a kind guy!

Very sad to hear. Jeff and the rest of the Za crew are the nicest folks. Genuinely good people.

Another food truck burglarized??? Just recently saw a post about the Indian food truck. This town is full of scum

Awh this totally hurts my heart to hear!! 💔😢 obviously no business owner deserves to be burglarized, but Jeff is such a bright and kind soul so I don't see how anyone could do that to him and his business. Thank you for sharing this, I'll definitely make a point to swing by soon and give him some business! 🍕💙

Eugene is fucked Crime-ridden

In over 30 years I never have had a crime happen to me in Eugene

u/equinox_magick 3d ago
You’re either lying or you live is abject isolation If you actually “live” in eugene, crime is freakin rampant. Let me guess you actually live in the outskirts of Santa Clara?

u/ShasterPhone 3d ago
Nah sorry Churchill area. Honk honk.

u/equinox_magick 2d ago
Right on. Well look at the incident bulletin for Churchill. I’m really sad to have to break the news to you- crime happens in Churchill neighborhood too- and higher than the state average. Eugene has gotten out of control, and I find it extremely hard to believe you don’t notice, since I also have lived here 30 years, and also live in Churchill, and have seen a drastic rise in crime and degradation of eugene in general in the years I’ve lived here. Maybe you never leave your house, or?

Crime is down nationwide on average and I can only assume most crime happens to people who are too dumb to lock their car doors and shit like that. I tend to assume it’s basically that.

Anyone that claims eugene doesn’t have a rampant crime problem is either lying, dumb, or trying to sell you something.

Headed there last night and caught him in some down time at roughly 8pm. He is exactly as described here. Super nice, a really pleasant person, great conversationalist. One of those people you are glad are in your community. Ordered a full pie. The pizza was great, cooked to order "How crispy do you want it?", etc. It was excellent. Will be visiting him regularly on pizza nights.

About 3 years ago me and my friends were lost and short on money for a pizza and he just gave it to us for free, genuinely such a good person. Will be getting some asap !!

I don't have FB, as I imagine most people here do not have either. The link was viewable, though:
Za Cart was burglarized over the holidays. Everything bleached today. Fresh dough being made for tomorrow. Open at noon. Feed you soon.
Neither that post nor OP provided any actual details. That matters a lot to me but it may not for you!

u/QuarticSmile 3d ago
The details dont matter and Jeff wont give you a sob story. If you like the pizza and know what kind of person he is, youd want to help him. I've known Jeff for years. He is truly having a hard time right now but is in high spirits! Even just buying a slice or showing support is enough. I'm not for the whole "thoughts and prayers" BS personally, but word of mouth does work. :)

Oh, I understand. I'm just trying to figure out what happened here. Us Eugenians live pretty boring lives. The details do matter. I certainly would never send thoughts and prayers to a food cart, I mean come on, but I might send $20 via Venmo after the owner presented a declination letter from an insurance company.

I doubt very much that Za's owner is at all interested in doing a bunch of extra work to satisfy you personally for a whopping $20.

u/washington_jefferson 3d ago
$20 is nothing- that wasn't my point. First of all- this post was interesting, and people like an end to a story. That's all.
I don't think it's cool for people to solicit money on this sub.

u/CowboyBeefbop 3d ago
Go and meet Jeff and then you can decide for yourself what kind of person he is.

u/georgiaokief 2d ago
Except that no one here was soliciting money. You're simply trying to be a skeptic. That's your business I guess. At least get your information straight though. No one was asking for donations to a go fund me or anything like that. The author is just informing us all that a community member might be struggling and encouraging us to show our support.
Jeff's business is being a good human being. He's spotted me some pie in the past and trusted me to come back and pay for it.
So this post is appreciated by the many people Jeff has helped out, as it allows us the opportunity to return the favor.
If it's not your thing, that's fine. Feel free to move along.

I suppose it's not healthy to always be so skeptical, but them's the breaks.
In general, though, submissions should have details and other clarifying information. This post provided no context. When it it comes to "boom" or "smell" posts, I think at a bare minimum that the OP should drive to the source and film. Why ask us? We need better material.
Anyway, I'm interested in the ZA Cart saga, I just think the details should be spelled out here.

Well I hope they didn’t steal any of his mediocre ass pizza, for their own sakes

That sucks. He's one of my favorite business owners in Eugene. I have watched him provide free food multiple times to those in need, and he always was so friendly and cool about it. I saw a dude fight back tears once just for giving him a soda and free slice. We need more people like Jeff, he's a real one and we're lucky to have him in the community.
