Anything to do alone on Christmas? Something to do
So I’m 28 F and can’t join my family for Christmas, meaning it’ll just be me and my cat alone in my undecorated apartment. Anyone know of anything fun to do? I saw that Old Nicks is doing a LOTR marathon, which sounds kind of fun but also kind of lonely since I don’t have anyone to go with. Anyone know of other events or something worth going to? I figure I can’t be the only person sad and alone on Christmas around here…
Edit/update: First of all, thank you so much for all of the suggestions, it honestly brightened my day. Second, my coworker invited me to spend Christmas evening with her and her family, so as long as her aunt says it’s fine for a rando to show up at her house that’s probably what I’ll be doing. If that falls through then I’ll be going off of these suggestions, probably going to the LOTR marathon at Old Nicks.

Well yeah, that’s a given. But I can’t do that the whole day. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is spongy and bruised.

Sit on your hands until they go numb, then pull up some tasteful boudoir pics of Eugene city councilman Mike Clark. Actually, pull up the pics first, hard to type with numb hands.

Christmas Eve, go to the Holiday market, get a food and sit in the food court area. I've only gone twice, and both times I've had long conversations with the folks who snagged a seat next to me.

Yeah I saw it on their Facebook page! (the only reason I get on Facebook anymore is for Events) It starts at 11, it’s all the extended editions, and it’s free for patrons!

I've been home sick with a cold and sitting in bed watching LotR, sounds like it would be a fun thing to attend if I didn't have the family plans.

I'll take you to a movie and old Nick's no strings attached.

Op do you have access to a car? Hiking the butte or taking a trip out to the coast? You’ll likely bump into others out and about.
If not, there’s plenty of walking trails in Alton baker park that offer lovely scenery.
Do you like fitness related things? Some gyms and studios might offer an early morning class.
Do you like to bake or cook? And special meal or snack you could make for yourself?
I’m also usually by myself on the holidays. I’ve learned I need to be proactive about making the day special for myself, or I can get real down.
Anyway, LOTR marathon sounds dope! Seems like a lovely opportunity to connect to a community and also A GREAT WAY to spend some hours, in my opinion.

I always do a coast trip on New Years Eve and watch the sunset if the weather allows, then find some cozy spot for fish and chips. It's a nice all alone thing to do.

Yeah I am gonna be alone with a cat too, the cat isn't mine, I am just watching her while the roommates are gone.

What are the LotR deets at Old Nick's? In the same boat and that sounds like an excellent way to spend the day

According to their Facebook page, it’s all three movies starting at 11am. They will also have a special Christmas Day menu

It really does seem hard to make friends in this town. I'd be down to hit up old nicks for a lotr marathon if u want a buddy, 32m and I'm someone who has watched the extended edition behind the scene documentaries multiple times lol

I hope u don't spend it alone, I hate Christmas and it was still a very lonely experience spending it alone last year. I thought it wouldn't bother me, but it did

You should go to the coworker's Christmas thing, and also watch a LOTR marathon.

I have spent 4 of the last 5 holidays alone. I live in a different state than my family and single. For me it's about perspective. I view it as just another day. Yes I would always love to see my family but that's not always in the cards.
So instead of thinking about it being the holidays, think of what will make you happy on regular days when friends and family are busy, or when you are not available.
How are the holidays different than those days? Pressure? Ingrained sense of family? Not minimizing at all. Just perspective. Doesn't have to be life perspective but moment.
Would you go to LOTR if it wasn't the holidays? Or are you looking for a way to keep your mind off things, which is understandable.
Do what will make you happy. That's my advice. I can't tell you what to do, only offer advice, opinions and experiences.
No matter how you spend the day. Take care of yourself and I wish you the best.

I just want to say, first of all, you’re not alone in feeling this way. The holidays can be really tough, especially when it feels like everyone else is surrounded by family and friends. But you’re doing something good by looking for ways to make the day special for yourself, and that takes a lot of strength. I am a loner myself, and my partner and I are battling family drama like every year, making us want to put our heads down and pretend it isn't the holidays.
I empathize and hope you can find something that fills your cup. All I can offer is a bong full of weed!
