Update for Save TV Butte Advocates! Meetup

Hi Save TV Butte Advocates! We are meeting outside the front gates of King Estate Winery, to protest our opposition of Old Hazeldell Quarry today.

Event Details: Location: King Estate Winery - 80854 Territorial Hwy, Eugene OR 97405 (Outside front gates)

Parking and Ride Share: Parking in the area of Lorane (right down the road from King Estates Winery) appears to be limited. Ride sharing will be crucial, so that we can all find viable parking within the area

Date: Saturday Nov 30th Time: 11:30am - 4pm (or as long as you are able to hang out - any time you can spend is appreciated)

NOTES: - We are all agreeing to do this as a group of individuals coming together to rally against, and raise awareness of, the Quarry opposition. - What to Bring: Bring water for yourself. We will have signs available, but feel free to bring your own sign if you like. - Weather: Should be cloudy. Chance of rain is low, but will be chilly. Be sure to dress warm and possibly wear a rain jacket, etc., just in case. - Please be respectful at the rally. Do not block any traffic. Do not yell any obscenities. Do not bring any noise makers. Listen to any authorities (if they show up).

Contacts: - Mick Garvin - 1eyedjack@peak.org 541 968 4623

Hope to see you there!

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your support!

I would like to help out. However, I am a "write my representatives" type of person.

https://oakridgestrong.org/how-to-help/ does not offer any government contacts. Who should I write my angry letters to?

At this point, your County Commissioners.

The County has a web page up laying out where we are in the process, with links to the rather voluminous record. The period for public comment is over. At some point in January, the Commissioners should be meeting to vote on the application.

Are there any local groups that drive accountability for such decisions? With a “vote for this and we’ll organize to unseat you” kind of power to wield?

Are those the people who are approving this?

Is there a way to know who voted for this or who is allowing this to even be a thing? I want to know who and where to contact someone about this.

I have never understood the strange obsession around this. Isn’t there a gigantic quarry in the middle of the town of Oakridge? On the river, literally a hole in the middle of town, in the river. No one protests that?

There's many differences. For one there is not a rock crusher that is echoing through the valley and there is no blasting, the proposed quarry will add 86 gravel trucks a day on hwy 58, it's an old digging mine and doesn't cause silica to rain down on the town plus it is not visible, the proposed mine would be visible all throughout the town and also in recreational areas. It will take away our tourism that we have been building and growing. The handful of jobs will not help Oakridge, it will close shops and stop the income of tourism..
