What amenities do you wish Eugene had? Something to do

For the sake of breaking up the monotony of this sub’s typical posts, what are some amenities you wish we had here? I don’t care if they are unrealistic for the population. I’ll go first: Top Golf and go karts. I don’t want to drive 1.5-2.5 hrs for those up in Wilsonville and Hillsboro more than once a year, and would go to both a many times a year if they were local! Do not mention Swing Suite; I won’t try it since it seems like expensive Wii golf lol!

I searched the sub for a post similar to this and didn’t find one. If there is, I didn’t want to spend more than 15 seconds scrolling for it😆

Edit: The intent of this post is FUN- unrealistic or not. I totally get the valid qualms with Eugene’s problems but that is discussed daily on this sub. I said break up the monotony. For the most part everyone has been great about this and listed some excellent ideas. Please keep this fun and positive and save your grievances for the other posts in this sub that give you this opportunity daily!

We don’t even have a hospital.

If you feel that way please don't visit the one 1 minute outside of the Eugene city limits.

This. I live in deep west Eugene.. I can get to Riverbend in 12 minutes. Faster than I could ever get to University District (UD). Not to mention UD was a glorified staging area for Riverbend.. if you really had something wrong with you, you were being sent to Riverbend anyways. It’s not as dramatic of a loss as people make it out to be.

This is the most frustrating thing about the "wE dOnT hAvE a HoSpItAl" argument. It's new location is better at serving of Eugene as a whole.

Unless there's some sort of emergency where bridges are less accessible or inaccessible... but let's just ignore the issue till we hit that point.

An earthquake big enough to take out bridges would have flattened the University District hospital. It needing major seismic updates to meet modern building codes was a big part of why they pulled the plug on it. So if the bridges go down, you wouldn’t have had a downtown hospital anyways.

There's more than just seismic activity that affects bridge use, especially on smaller bridges such as Ferry st.

There is also more than one bridge to get there, and that same argument could be applied to a bridge in Eugene to anyone who is on the opposite side of ferry street bridge

As it should be, and why we should have an ER on both sides of the bridge.

You know you could just use another bridge? And it is more than likely that the quickets way for more people would be using a different bridge?

Aaaaagain there are multiple reasons bridges, one or many may not be usable within a city space. For instance, bridges freeze faster than roads. As we get into more and more extreme weather, and see more winters like the last one, peoples ability to cross bridges easily that may be in poor condition, or already have accidents on them, makes not having an easily accessible ER a dangerous precedent.

Bridges do freeze faster than roads, but they still work as a bridge. Everytime, I've encountered a frozen bridge, I've just continued and safely passed over the bridge. So far, I have had 100% success rate crossing frozen bridges.

Or if the new Chick-fil-A drive thru gets backed up.

It's more of a "I can make it a few blocks, but I don't trust myself on the bus with a concussion"

Then get firemed and call an ambulance

Tbh I was a bit out of it at the time. In retrospect, I should've. But I just kept walking home instead.
