Reasonable Level 2 charger installation at home suggestions? jiggly
Just bought a new to me EV. It's great and wonderful and I love driving a spaceship. I own my home, so I want to install a level 2 charger in my garage. I checked the search bar, and it had suggestions from two years ago.
Hoping someone else has had one installed and can steer me towards a reliable, honest electrician. If you mind sharing how much it cost you, I would appreciate that too!
Many thanks!!

We used Think Electric. They're a worker-owned co-op.
Highly recommend you hardwire your charger rather than using a 14-50 receptacle. And don't overspend on a super powerful charger install if you don't need it. A 32 amp charger on a 40 amp circuit is enough for probably 90% of EV drivers. r/evcharging is a great resource

I had Excel Electric give me a bid and it was just shy of $800 to put in a 14-50 plug about six feet away from the panel (and on the same wall). I thought that was pretty pricey, but I didn’t get any other bids.
I’ve read that electricians sometimes charge a premium for EV projects and that you can sometimes get lower prices if you just tell them it’s for a dryer or welder or something else. No idea if that’s true, but it wouldn’t shock me (no pun intended).

I think you can get a $500 rebate from EWEB for it once it's done though, so it would have cost like $300?
Do you charge somewhere else?

Yeah, but I used most of that $500 on the charger itself :) If your car came with an L2 charger, though, then that’s not too bad!
I did get an L2 installed by a friend of a friend who is an electrician and only charged me a bit more than cost.

I recommend Balanced Electric. A woman-owned business and they do great work.

Depending on how often and far you drive a level 1 charger may be enough. I bought a charger that had an adapter to support level 1 and 2. We don’t drive that much but have been nowhere close to needing it. We get about 15-20% (~50 miles) when charging over night.

Freedom Electric Construction in Veneta hardwired my charger on a 60amp spare (we have 200A service) on the wall next to the breaker about 2 feet away for 155 dollars.
