I’ve never hated a video game faction more than the scorn. Discussion
Trying to do Kell’s Fall on expert, was going pretty good so far considering how easy the mission is normally. What pisses me off is the fact that we’re in a GL meta, and with the amount of extra raiders spawning in this mission on expert, I don’t even feel SAFE shooting my own gun. I’ve legitimately “died to the architects” more in this mission than to actual enemies (once).

I tried to run out the mirror realm but kept getting pushed back by the overload captain with his projectiles.
Don't forget rainbow colored totems, invisible stepping across the map, small little buckler shields that can block basically anything.

small little buckler shields that can block basically anything.
"Fun" fact: the Scorn buckler shields that can block everything are the scrapped eye plates of Servitors.
You know, the enemy whose eye is their primary weak point.

I can’t even imagine what I’ll have to go through trying to fight the trickster. Starting to think all of this isn’t very worth it for the shotgun in question
21
u/Bosscharacter 15h ago
My biggest issue is that Choir Of One is my baby so I don't think I can see myself swapping exotics for a shotgun with niche use cases in the content I play.
Choir just has so much utility it makes it hard to use anything different for me at the moment.
11
u/Turbulent_Sir_2261 15h ago
Even in the MISSION I found myself sticking to things like choir and the area GL. It’s really too niche and only shines on certain builds like nightstalker or, like, sentinel SOMETIMES?
7
u/Equivalent_Bed_8187 15h ago
Personally I don't see the value of the shotgun on nightstalker, even with gyrfalcon, compared to choir, buried bloodline, or velocity baton.

u/BBQ_RIBZ 14h ago
I'm really enjoying it with no backup plans sentinel, and I don't have any upgrades on it at all yet. It's niche but it's very fun
2
u/sjb81 10h ago
And there’s nothing wrong with that at all. Buried bloodline SHOULD be better, it’s a dungeon exotic and the catalyst is tough to get and takes a ton of kills to finish.
On the other hand, Fang with No Backup Plans was tested and is the highest DPS weapon combo in the game on a good handful of bosses.
1
u/Phatman900 9h ago
I saw Aztec’s test, but that was shotgun only. Was there a video about full damage combos?
3
u/Bosscharacter 15h ago
I could make it work with prismatic since I’m a hunter but I’m just gonna take sat and knock out the mission stuff then be done with it.
I’m at the point in the episode I’m ready for it to end and the Dreadnaught is my favorite location so the next episode has my interest more than the last 2 accept for the echoes weapons and a few of the ones this season.
Guess I’m ready for more meaningful content.

It's a little weird how we've gotten three void exotic special weapons in the space of about a year between Buried Bloodline, Choir of One and now Slayer's Fang... and Slayer's Fang just doesn't seem to be very good compared to the other two in its own mission.
That's also not counting Vexcalibur - another void exotic special weapon - from the beginning of Lightfall... it's just also not very good.

u/YellowStrong9931 12h ago
Shotguns are still just so bad in PvE.
Like misjudge the distance just a little bit and you do zero damage, not reduced damage, absolutely zero damage.
Why when choir of one, a GL or a rocket sidearm will consistently get the job done.

u/Equivalent_Bed_8187 15h ago
Stasis against scorn is underrated for its ability to stop scorn from using their invisible stepping ability, but the trickster boss fight ignores that property (as it should since it's a boss) but it's incredibly annoying to have the boss consistently shifting across the room.

u/n080dy123 Savathun vendor for Witch Queen 13h ago
The fact that it's impossible to lay down consistent DPS cuz like the second you shoot her she just warps away is SO fucking annoying, even when she's the onyl thing in the room, not to mention the multitude of bombs doing chip damage.

Icefall Mantles + Salvation's Grip, bby. I love that I can use my Class Ability to hit those bastards with a massive AoE Freeze Effect (which also gives me a fair chunk of Super Energy thanks to Dynamo) and spamming waves of Stasis Crystals with Salvation's Grip. AND I get Healing and DR for Shattering everything.

Do it as a group. I've done it a few times through LFG and so far the experience has been okay (only 1 wipe, and it was on Fikrul).

u/New_Target8919 7h ago
Behemoth and Salvations Grip will perma-stun her, as she keeps staggering, if you spam her enough.
Could also go yolo with a spicy headbutt with the chest piece on.

I got annoyed trying to solo the intro to finish the mirror shotgun quests. Since she goes invis/invinc so much, I ended up using Faith Keeper crafted with auto-loading holster and bipod. Nothing crazy, but I was able to have the shotgun equipped, deal with ads, and slowly chip away at the boss when I could see her.

This was way easier to get than Choir and much shorter. I’m not sure why there’s all this complaining. I lfg’d it and it was pretty fast even on expert. The only issue is that it was buggy as hell.

Shoutout to QA being so fucking bad that a soft lock in the final boss if you don't 1-phase made it to full version.

I’m ready to see the lurker’s buckler shield vs the cabal interceptor

The Scorn are so ass. They’re ugly as sin and they have every feature we hate. Invincible shields, teleportation, servitor shielding, burning floors, and movement slows. And they don’t have any personality either. Each faction has some level of personality to them. The Cabal are Space Romans, The Fallen are drifters, the Vex are time-warping robots, the Taken are chaos, but what are the Scorn? Zombies? I don’t care how hard Bungie pushes it they aren’t “Vampires” they’re just boring.

u/Dewbs301 13h ago
Aaaaand sometimes their crits are on the lanterns, just to fuck with you even more

this. like i get it for the exploding lantern effect which is a cool twist, but why is their head NOT a crit spot. if cabal can have two crit spots so should they

The Scorn hate after years of this subreddit talking about Forsaken like it's the pinnacle of Destiny content is a plot twist I did not see coming this week.
2
u/San-Carton 2h ago
One does not nullify the other. Forsaken is one of the best pieces of content Bungie has ever made, but many people have always found the scorn annoying to deal with.
Personally, I don't share this sentiment, they're my favourite faction, but it's nothing new for people to complain about them

u/Adjective_Number_420 24m ago edited 20m ago
One does not nullify the other.
I didn't say it did, what I meant was that I've never seen this anti-Scorn sentiment before (at least this much of it) despite all the praise Forsaken has got over the years.

Did the mission for the first time on expert with a clanmate, it do be suckin', the Trickster is by far the most annoying just because of how often she goes immune/invisible, then pops out underneath you and oneshots you with a stomp. Some solar resist mods help against the dread enemies in the mirror realm, I was getting shredded by them at first. But yeah, Scorn as a faction can go eat a dick, annoying fuckers all.

u/Agueybana ... 13h ago
Nothing will ever overcome my loathing of SIVA Splicers. Landing a headshot only to have a homing grenade lobbed from the corpse was a wonderful disincentive to play agianst splicers.
I feel like they were a beta test for Scorn mechanics.

u/PsychoactiveTHICC Oh reader mine 11h ago
I hate that bitch Araskses and her immune bullshit and top of that raider gun projectiles you get a recipe for mental breakdown

u/Tallmios 7h ago
Switched to a Linear at one point, because wiping to my own grenade wasn't worth replaying a 10-minute boss fight segment.

u/an_agreeing_dothraki 5h ago
random red bar: goes invulnerable and you have to chase its ghost trail all the way back to the start of the mission but it decides to body check you while invincible off a cliff in a darkness zone before then

u/blue_13 Big dummy stupid head 3h ago
The introduction of Scorn was basically the final nail in the coffin of me quitting Destiny. It is the *worst* enemy type of any game I've ever played. They are uninspired, boring, and silly. Screebs can stay though.

u/Turbulent_Sir_2261 3h ago
Gotta love em, especially when the big screeb rumor was rolling around for the DMT mission, lmao
3
u/reformedwageslave 12h ago
Just wait until the next race bungie adds. They’ll have flying units with a shield that instakill you if you’re too close to where they spawn in. Oh and they can generate a totem that makes everything invincible, turn invisible, teleport, and heal themselves.

u/NevanPodcaster 10h ago
Anarchy + Area Denial gl work wonders on that mission...oh! and Song of Flame <3

Any tips for a solo player on expert? Having trouble at the fighting pit I am!?

u/PaulTr11 Vaccines and masks work 5h ago
Have you done the 'secret' mission yet with the conductor? I think all they were doing were throwing totems to protect everyone - who were also constantly respawning. That really dragged that fight out for me... not horribly hard/bad but just toooooo long.

u/Macemanintw 5h ago
It's not just the Scorn.
I just had one of the projectiles from tonic mats collide with a rocket and instagib me.

my most hated part about scorn is the captain invincibility totems or as i call them "the special princess totems" because they put them down and youre not allowed to hit them because they are just special little princesses.
it wouldnt be as annoying if in harder content said totems didnt take as long to break. I despised VOW master mode because of them. 1st encounter's 2 overload captains kept placing special princess totems after i would finish destroying one to try and stun the captain i needed

u/Zealousideal-Roll-75 2h ago
I use the neomuna wave frame. Much less chance of death and one for all makes it pretty good

Well that's how changing your loadout to the mission goes. There are plenty of safer options that do nearly as much damage as GLs.

u/fewtoots 10h ago
From an enemy design point I think the scorn was done very well. The worst part for me is enemy teleports. Thinking about scorn, it would be great if bungie could create an exotic that fires those specific totems.

u/DESPAIR_Berser_king 8h ago
Complaining so much about an entire fraction in a game with the least amount of enemy diversity ever really is hilarious and telling of how bad at the game the average d2 player is.
3
u/A-Literal-Nobody In memoriam 6h ago
My sibling in Christ, two entire weapon classes are a liability because all of their attacks can collide with your shots, they can become invincible in two different ways, their sniper units hit multiple times per single shot, and they've always been super buggy. Remember mini-screebs clipping into the ground? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

My favourite part was the one where they made the trickster go invisible 20 times in a row when you glance at her. It required a tremendous amount of skill on my side to play ring around the rosie at the top of the stairs waiting for her to stop doing that
Jokes aside, she used to be my favourite quest in forsaken with the fake engrams thrown around. Being reduced to invisible bot in this one was kinda sad
