I Have Way Too Much Time On My Hands: Traffic Processor 2.0 in motion and working Video

I think I may have overdone the video a bit as well.
For more info on how the traffic processor actually works I responded to a lot of questions in my original still image post linked below.
In short , this traffic processor is built in vanilla with no mods. It serves a factory city and sorts ALL of the cities traffic in one location. The city contains no intersections or stop signs/lights , no public transit , or interconnected sidewalks. All movement goes through the processor. The entire city is load balanced and all imports and exports are load balanced. The city has over 90% traffic flow at any given point with 100k+ residents.

Overkill is vastly underrated
This is one of the coolest things I’ve seen on a sub that routinely has cool things.
17
u/maledin Nov 16 '21
You play CSL like it’s Factorio lol. And it sure is something to see, even if it’s a bit unsightly.

u/redldr1 Nov 16 '21
Not even movit mod to align the roads??
24
u/ravenshaddows Nov 16 '21
no i just lay down an initial road an use the games own grid snapping to make the roads line up to where i need them
17
u/MrRonny6 Nov 16 '21
I expected you to at least have something to copy layouts.
You absolute madman, I love it

Sorry if you posted it somewhere else, but do you have a screenshot of the whole city? Btw this looks awesome!

Ritalin really does help
1
u/A-le-Couvre Nov 16 '21
I can't get over that image of Family Guys Stewie laying there, staring at the sun with massive pupils.
I'll take C:S or Factorio over Ritalin any day.

Day 327: Our city has finalized the concrete monstrosity, the traffic processor. The most efficient system for managing traffic ever devised, I must only enter it after leaving home, and leave it as I approach work.
It has taken me 47 hours to commute today. I my wife broke her femur as I turned through the first junction - I hope the ambulance has enough provisions to make it to her before she bleeds out.
Long ago, I remember a commute. Left on elm, right on birch, 3 miles down to work. As I pass by address 0x000AB4 I wonder, will I ever free myself of this hell?
There is no traffic anymore, there is only the processor.
8
u/ravenshaddows Nov 16 '21
due to the flow rate of traffic the distance increase isn't really an issue as you get wherever you want without stopping. So theoretically an ambulance can dispatch to the processor really quickly and return to the hospital not hitting any stops along the way

u/Boocela Nov 16 '21
"You were so pre-occupied with wether or not you could, you didn't stop to think if you should..."
Seriously tho, that's amazing!

u/Sandman3582 Nov 16 '21
You okay OP? Good repost, read some of the other thread & I’d love to watch an in-depth vid explaining the ins n outs of this. Cool as heck😅, I’ve tried to do the same kinda concept but never to this extent.

u/Eddy63 Nov 16 '21
What bothers me the most is that you used a two lane road for the ramps, you madman
12
u/ravenshaddows Nov 16 '21
the reason for using 2 lane roads it because ragular onramps cannot achieve the same angle in vanilla making the processor far too big. these are the most compact solution
4
5
u/Mike_Kermin I have chosen my route and I refuse to change it for any reason. Nov 16 '21
I have no idea what I'm watching but it's weirdly..... Good.
Awesome mate. Love it.

u/STR1D3R109 Nov 16 '21
Okay this video is amazing, awesome work on the Matrix transition!! The music fits perfectly too!
And the fact that this was made in VANILLA is nothing to be skipped over... :)
6
u/I-Am-Uncreative Nov 16 '21
Now I wonder if someone can make logic circuits out of roads in Cities Skylines.
7
u/ravenshaddows Nov 16 '21
you can but this is quite literally the only task it can perform which is random number sorting

Are those matrix bits at the start lifted from the movie? If so I never realised that was mostly jumbled up/reversed katakana

How'd you do that matrix thingy? Very cool BTW also quintessential exhibit of the space needed for road infrastructure
3

i just did that all in premiere but its basically edge detection , some super imposing , and a difference key so the cars can stand out from the background

How much control do you have over the inputs?
7
u/ravenshaddows Nov 16 '21
very little. this would be equal to a processor with only one instruction which is random number sorting. not much unlike very early processors that were only made to do a single task and were also not universal.

European cities: Ok, just a metro here, some light rail here, and some trains to bring people in from father, and car traffic just takes these arterials, but that's a last resort.
American cities:

What does it calculate? (or is it more of a multiplexer than a calculating unit?)
1
u/ravenshaddows Dec 07 '21
well it's not a multiplexer as the outputs match the inputs. It's a processor with only one instruction which is random number sorting , not unlike early processors which were created to achieve a single task and were not universal in their operation.

1
1
u/CeraRalaz Nov 17 '21
What program do you run on it? Can it calculate?
1
u/ravenshaddows Dec 07 '21
It's a processor with only one instruction which is random number sorting , not unlike early processors which were created to achieve a single task and were not universal in their operation. Whats funny is the data type cannot not be controlled but it very much can be physically sorted and manipulated as it moves through the system. So If you know know how the data (cars) function than you can design a road system that they prefer.
Basically this looks like hell to us but the AI is far more efficient with this system.
