Why does my car looks like crappy Hot Wheelsššš My Classic Car

u/razrielle 1d ago
Fuck I miss my Geo Metro. It was an appliance of a car. It was just hard finding tires since no one made 12" ones for a while
33
u/tmatted 1d ago
I had 13s and they still are not available anywhere, and I needed them bad when I got into pothole and ruined my entire wheel. So now I have back rims from Nissan Sentra 1997 they are 14", going to install 14" at the front one day as well

u/razrielle 1d ago
That's pretty sweet. I was going to do a rim swap but was given a vehicle after I graduated basic training. I had 0 issues with mine when I had it. Gets stupid gas mileage.
9
u/tmatted 1d ago
Yup, and they are indestructible as well. Plus you even can find some parts online for dirt cheap. I like to think it's Mad Max type of car that will survive in horrible scenarios

u/molrobocop 1d ago
Any more, you'd probably need to import from Japan, as their kei trucks still run 12's.

u/Secret_Effect_5961 1d ago
Apologies, I'm uk based so not clued up on your models but it has a resemblance of a mk1 ford kA from the 90's sold here unfortunately. Was there a joint effort between ford and whoever built these things? Our KA's where popular with the young girlie's and broke folk as they were literally the cheapest car to run and insure lol.
2
u/tmatted 21h ago
Hey! I'm actually very familiar with Ford Ka, people called it Ford Karina (Karina is women's name) in Russia. Good little nuggets with strange design, which was peak for Europe of that time.
This car is rebadged Suzuki - and it was rebadged by GM as long as I remember - they owned brand GEO which just rebadged and added little bit of changes of Japanese cars like Suzuki and Toyota. It's pretty interesting, you can read about that on Wiki.
This car is absolutely the cheapest lol

hubcaps, might double the value - joking
econoboxes can be a lot of fun and also extremely frugal for running costs, of course like any other vehicle they can be a trainwreck of a headache and a deathtrap, but that's the thing about potential.... only one way to find out!
2
u/tmatted 1d ago
Lmao the hubcap joke is ruthless
This car is great and really dependable so far - made it from LA to NY

u/04HondaCivic 1d ago
Because itās a geo metro with steelies. And black plastic bumpers. There aināt much you can do nor is it really worth it. The absolute MOST I would do is tint the windows and throw on a set of alloys wheels. At that size they should be inexpensive. Maybe paint the bumpers but Iām not sure Iād really do that. Hit them with a good cleaner and plastic trim restorer when the weather is better. These things will help it look better but it wonāt change the fact itās an inexpensive grocery getter. Itās just a cheap car. Albeit one that looks to be in good condition.
2
u/tmatted 1d ago
I even have only one seat in this car, I threw out the rest of them lol. So yup, not much I can do at all. Just drive it till the wheels fall off

Geo metro wasnāt supposed to look good it was just a super high mileage econobox. Cheap, fairly reliable, slow, high gas mileage. Also I think they were super unsafe but I canāt really remember, they were a little before my time. My first car was a chevy Aveo which was kind of the same thing lol

Honestly, clean it up, get those 14s on the front with decent looking hubcaps all-round, freshen-up the lenses on the lights, and paint the bumpers to match the body, and I think you'd be doing just fine, aesthetically.

Now I wouldn't recommend you holding your breath for that to happen with regards to your particular hot wheels car but I've seen crazier shit happen... Not much crazier though lol

I drove one of these for years. It was very reliable and economical. It has some issues like the small engines were prone to burning valves if the EGR clogged up.
Fun fact: even with the LX model and it's whopping 62 horsepower, I had to hold the clutch down longer, to get into firat gear, when I had the AC running. The difference was noticeable.

Anybody making fun of this car doesn't know that these are actually one of the most reliable cars right behind a Toyota they actually use the same assembly line as the Toyota Corolla but did it on the off shift times in the same factory just a different crew. They were so successful that Chevy bought them out and turned them into Chevy cavaliers and we all know how that went but the old school GEOS could easily get 300,000 miles on them and I had multiple different cars that reached well over 200,000 miles and filling the tank would cost about $12 and get you about 400 miles new tires would cost about $20 a piece

Economy cars are basic transportation. Theyāre not meant to look all that cool. But they donāt have to. If your car gets you from a to B safely and is reasonably cheap to insure youāre the one who is ahead of the game. I have a cool looking car that costs me almost 1/5 of my income per month to carry. I am the idiot. Youāre laughing all the way to the bank.
