Should I release her?
This poor girl has been through a lot. Her chrysalis was on my recycling bin with two others and they both perished to flies. I moved her onto my citrus tree with floss and brought it in during a freeze the other night. It had also stormed really badly a few days before and she was thrown around.
I wasn't sure if she'd make it at all but sure enough she did come out after a few days of being in my office. I've been giving her fruit, dill flowers, and a very shallow dish of sugar water. It's about 60° in the room she's in, 30°-40° outside.
She seems okay but isn't super active. Very docile and likes to sit on my hand (anytime I put it near she climbs on).
I was considering taking her to the botanical garden. Will she just die though since it's so cold out, and there will be few flowers right now? She was looking out the window today and seemed sad.

Xerces webinar Monitoring western butterflies in the Anthropocene
Hey all butterfly enthusiasts!
Today I listened to a talk by Matt Forister a researcher from Univ of Nevada. It reviews findings from his and other researchers' studies on western butterfly populations. It also shows information on data from thirty five ongoing monitoring projects across the Western region. Results show the factors for butterfly decline and helps guide conservation efforts. His next project beginning in late 2025 would benefit from this group who love butterflies.

I need help identifying butterflies in 16/17th century paintings
Hello everyone, I'm working on a paper about butterfly species in Dutch paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries. I've come across a lot of species including the small tortoiseshell, red admiral, painted lady and the garden tiger moth, but I've also come across some interesting depictions of demons with butterfly wings I cannot identify and hopefully some of you will recognise them. They could also be non-existing fantasised species though. The third image might be a stylised monarch butterfly. Please let me know what you think!

Update on butterfly that emerged in the middle of winter
He is now in a pop up laundry basket that one of my neighbors dropped off. He’s not very active which is a bit worrying. But he is alive and well and his name is Sprinkle.

One of my butterflies emerged. It is winter in my state?!!
What should I do? The only thing I can think of is to put him in the fridge then the freezer. There’s no flowers and it is freezing outside

Honoring the lives of these lovely creatures with opal stars.
They were ethically sourced. I saw the frame and was very inspired.
