Experience with Ebikes in Georgia?

I'm looking to buy an ebike that is quite expensive to me (around 1400). And I can't help but see the biggest concern I have is potential theft. I live in the Dunwoody area and travel to Roswell as well. I wanted to know for those whow live in this area. What has your experience been like with Ebikes safety and theft?

Safety is basically non existent in the Atlanta metro with the exception of a few protected bikes lanes downtown. Even the beltline is mostly slow walkers and people on fast scooters. Atlanta is the type of city where you put your bike in a car to take to a trail to ride recreationally rather than to get around. I wouldn't feel safe parking my bike anywhere for any length of time.

Until enough people are on bikes, so it's a catch-22. biking and walking downtown are entirely different activities than elsewhere. The cars know they are in the minority or something.
