Need help with licensing (vic) Legislation- Victoria

Just need some help with the identification referee part of my license I don’t know anyone on the list at all after trying for 4 months I can’t find a single person who will help so that’s completely off the table but I was calling around a few hunting stores last night and a couple of them mentioned a way to do it that involves getting a statutory declaration instead but they couldn’t really explain it very well wondering if anyone here has had any experience doing it this way and can point me in the right direction

CPA accountant is what I used, you get your taxes done at the same place for a few years?

I use a small accountant that I’ve known for years he’s just extremely anti-gun the same as my GP and said that he would feel extremely uncomfortable signing it I didn’t want to push the issue any further because he has 100% the right to deny signing it for me so that’s the last time I spoke to him about it

Yep you get a few people like that im afraid. Potentially a pharmacist? People that have been in the banking sector for more than 5 years? Manager of a post office? Dentist? An officer in the defence force. any police friends?

Don’t really know any bankers as mates been perfectly healthy ever since I arrived in Australia so never needed to go to a pharmacist just check ups with the doctor dentist might be a possibility I’ll see if I can track down a dentist from a few years ago who did a check up for me got a lot of ex-military mates but none who serve right now and as for police friends the same as bankers I know one or 2 to say hello and goodbye to but none are what I’d call mates in a standard manner more like nice blokes

Thanks appreciate the support and the LRD bloke did seem to genuinely want to help me so hopefully they get back with a solution

The reason its a hurdle is purely to make it harder for the lower classes to have access to firearms. That's it.

These ID verification reference requirements don't exist for any of the more serious background checks.

"Lower classes" is a bit of a reach, considering the professions listed are easily in reach of a lot of people. OP has mentioned he had at least 2 opportunities, but they've expressed discomfort.

These ID verification reference requirements don't exist for any of the more serious background checks.

I had to get similar references and verification for my medical registration, which is considered slightly serious.

I was more referencing actual in depth background checks through AGSVA. Someone can get a PV clearance without having to involve a single reference from professionals beyond their actual workplace and personal references back too when they were 16.

Which professions do you think people have easily in reach? Plenty of people don't have a regular GP these days, just see whoever is avaliable. Most people they see for their tax are just tax agents not CPAs.
