Calling All Budget-Wedding Veterans! How Did You Save Money with 50 Guests?
We’re planning a small wedding with 50 guests. Both of us are South Asian immigrants, so this is as smallest as we can go while still including close family and friends.
We’d love tips on:
- Finding affordable venues that still feel special/Getting AirBnB and DIYing rest of the stuff
- Catering from a South Asian restaurant (bonus points if you’ve done this before!)
- Other money-saving hacks you’ve discovered for small weddings
Anything else we should consider to make this work without breaking the bank? Appreciate all the advice and ideas—thanks in advance!
Edit: This would be an alcoholic-free wedding.

Forex Aud/Usd - where are we going
Trump is sworn in soon where he will likely start making crazy statements about tariffs and deporting low wage (== efficient) workers.
Following on from there he's going to start abusing Canada and Europe. Why? I don't know.
What does this all mean for Aus - 1mo, 3mo, 6mo, 12mo out?

Property If we want to get the nation going. Why are interest rates on fully secured business loans so much higher then home loans?
Home loans where the only security is the home have a stupidly low interest rate compared to business loans where they want 200% security.
Given homes are not great wealth creators for the country, why does the government through regulation make business loans so much more expensive?

is uber eats a decent gig for uni students?
i’m moving up to the city for uni and besides looking for a job, i don’t really have much to do until uni starts in late feb.
Considering doing Uber Eats or Doordash until i get to job just to have a little bit of income.
Is the pay worth it against fuel/ wear and tear on the car?

Job Interview With No Conformation Or Information, What Do I Do?
TLDR: I have a job interview tomorrow but have not received any conformation or any information not even an address help please.
Hi, M 21 I applied to this job advertisement last Sunday via Seek.
It says it from a company called "The Progress Faculty" which seems great and all, after I applied the next day I got a call from a lady saying she was from the company and after our conversation I was offered an interview, I accepted and chose Monday January 13th (tomorrow) I was told I would receive some kind of conformation later in the week, which I have not received.
Now after looking online I cannot even find an address for the company, it isn't listed on their website or Google Maps.
The phone number I was contacted by seems to be from another company Harver, which seems to do the exact same thing, which another company HYPA which does have a Richmond address listed and also has years of bad reviews (just search for "HYPA group reddit")
What do I do? The more I search it seems dodgier and dodgier. TIA

Monthly Income Savings
Looking for some general advice on saving and managing my money.
I’m 24, live at home with family, and cover my own and home expenses and (bills, phone, gym, etc.). I get paid monthly and currently try save 70% of my income, splitting it 50/50 between a HISA and regular savings . However, I always end up transferring money from my regular savings to my spending account throughout the month . Despite this, I still manage to save about 50% of my income each month.
My main questions:
1) Should I keep more of my savings in the HISA?
2) Are there better ways to grow my savings and manage my money?
Would love to hear any suggestions, tips and advice—thanks!

Do family trusts go dormant?
Before anyone says anything, yes, I know I should be speaking to an accountant/solicitor etc.
But I figured, I'd get a headstart and start researching.
I've got a considerable amount of money I've been holding onto for my young child. It's just tied up in HISAs at the moment. But I'd like to start investing it, and also putting more of my money with it.
We're just about to finish paying off our PPOR so will have about $100K+/year to start investing.
So here's my question:
I set up a family trust in 2017, but I never got around to opening a bank account for it. It has the whole folder, with paperwork, and I can see an ABN and TFN in there for it. And there's $10 paperclipped to one of the pages. It all looks legit, was set up through my accountant at the time and should have been done correctly.
I am wanting to set up a bank account for it this week, as I'm expecting some more money for my daughter from overseas and just want it to go straight into the trust.
If I haven't done anything with it or lodged any tax returns etc. would it still be active?

Best paying no experience jobs?
Hello all in a little bit of debt (15k) and want to pay it off quickly. What are some "no experience" or entry level jobs I can get to maximize my pay? I am getting a white card this Saturday however I have never worked construction. Although I have experience in warehousing, retail and customer service. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

The system is cooked. Is it time to buy regional and go off grid?
I don't see any other option. I can't see myself being a corpo rent slave for the rest of my life (which has caused immense damage to my mental health already) and things just seem to be getting worse across the board in terms of public services.
I'm thinking of buying a cheap house in regional NSW like Orange and start growing my own stuff, collecting rainwater and installing solar.
How legit is this plan? It's the only thing i can think of to escape and atleast live a decent life.

Investing Is it bad to invest in IVV when AUD is so low?
Hi, beginner investor and was just wondering if it is bad to start investing in the IVV when AUD is worth so little when converting to US dollar since it is tracking US companies?
Thank you in advance

Investing CommBank blocking overseas investment.
As the title says, I’m investing into a friend’s startup that is set up in Delaware, US.
When trying to send the money to the US, CommBank has froze my accounts, and are now investigating where my money comes from ?
I work for the defence department, it comes from the government? These banks are unhinged.

Wife’s 40th birthday present
My wife’s 40th is soon approaching and I have decided to organise a surprise 2 week holiday overseas as a present. I will tell her on her birthday that I have organised a trip and the dates but not planning to tell her where to until the day we leave. The trip will cost me approximately $5k for our flights and accommodation minus spending which we will take out of our joint savings.
Question, do I need to also holder her a physical present for the day of her birthday?
And if so approx would I need to spend?
We are reasonably comfortable financially but not glad with cash.

I was talking to a friend about credit cards, and he said he sets his repayments to a day before the due date, he said it was just habit as usually sees the statement a day before.

Insurance Is it worth getting hospital cover for my ageing parents?
Hey AusFinance.
My parents are both reaching retirement age. Any sort of major healthcare expense would likely fall on me.
Is it worth getting them hospital insurance or does the Australian healthcare system take care of its citizens enough such that it is not really necessary?
From what I've read so far, private hospital cover would be redundant for emergency surgeries as the public system would take care of it, however I am worried about any non-life threatening conditions that significantly reduce quality of life and would be considered an elective procedure under the Australian healthcare system.
Is there anything else I am missing?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!
