I am a 47-year-old stroke survivor in the US who receives SSDI and has survivorship on my late wife’s pension. I cannot work due to the lasting cognitive effects of my stroke (you can retrain parts of the brain but you never get back the damaged and dead parts). As such, I make a few hundred dollars too much to qualify for any kind of income-based assistance. I’ve cut back and sold things, but I’m in a hole of $1100 minimum for rent (I have $1200 available but the payment portal won’t accept less than the current due of $2342). Not going to make this a long sob story. But I have been doing gig work uber eats delivery/ DoorDash etc for the last few years. And slowly but surely after a multitude of dashers stealing orders. It has become really annoying to have your account deactivated because other people steal food and then you receive the order and goto pick it up only to find out it’s been stolen. Then you get penalized. This just cost me, and got me deactivated on uber. The same thing happened on DoorDash a year ago. I’m done with this food delivery service but now my rent is in jeopardy. I Need $825 for rent by Jan. 5th and I only currently have 300. And I had planned to work uber eats and bust my ass to make the money in time. But now being deactivated has really hurt my moral and my plans. I have signed up for several other apps as well as some job applications. I’m just worried I won’t be able to make up the money in time. If anyone can help me with anything I would be truly grateful. Does anyone here know where I can work for, get, or win a laptop? Or a site where I can buy a cheap and old but still working one?

I already have a work but sadly it's just student assistantship and I'm to start on our second semester. I think it would be quite enough to sustain me at times but not enough to save for a new laptop, which I will be needing for our next sem (context at the bottom).

I'm thinking of ways to increase my savings and hopefully start the second semester with one where I can use AutoCAD and do basic tasks like word and excel.

I am completely fine with an old laptop as long as it's working and preferably at least 16 gb ram, so I can run the software smoothly. That would mean I can save up to 146.76 USD (which is equivalent to 8500 php here) and that's enough to buy one. My current savings are 17 USD—still too far from my goal and the sem starts at January 27.

Bumping the question above, I really want to have another side job, preferably online, so I can hasten up the process of saving as I'm really desperate now. If you have any recommendations, thank you in advance!

Although it's partially my own fault for ending up in this situation, I would really appreciate some help. I'm currently unemployed, left my job for physical and mental health reasons - I have fibromyalgia and am hypermobile and the job was making my pain so unbearable that I first lost the energy to work on translations (my "side hustle" but primarily hobby work), then I lost the energy to game or study in my free time, then I lost the energy to even use my phone at all, and so by the time I quit all I was doing was going to work, coming home, rotting in bed while staring at the ceiling, then sleeping, and repeat.

... so, currently, my sources of income are extremely limited. I am applying constantly to jobs, spending a good amount of time on each one to make sure it's a proper, good application. I'm starting out as a pet sitter, but have only gotten one job in the past two months. I am working on applying for food stamps and cash assistance, but am having trouble collecting documentation (though I obviously plan to get it all together and submit my application) (ETA: I am located in NYC). I am also working towards getting a food handler's license and hoping to get a cottage food license so I can sell baked goods as well, because almost everyone I know has told me to do it.

However, for the time being, I just need some assistance with paying January's rent and maybe cutting down my credit card balance just a little. I need energy put out there that I start to sleep better soon. I have an undiagnosed illness (my mom has the same illness and is completely demented) and I am just losing the ability to sleep. Either I cannot breathe lying down or while falling asleep, I am urinating profusely lying down, or I just do not sleep at all. The part of my brain that regulates sleeping and breathing is just not functioning as intended.

For the last 4 years I get anywhere from 1-5 hours a night, 2-3 on average. The last month I have deteriorated to ZERO sleep 4-5 nights a week and only 1-2 hours with heavy meds twice a week.

I cannot go on much longer like this. I don’t know what to do anymore except turn my head to the sky and say “if it’s meant to be it will be”. I am deeply terrified and scared. I don’t have quality of life anymore.

What I need is your energy for me out in the universe. Please, no medical advice on this particular post. I’ve seen many doctors and this post isn’t about finding “an answer” as most doctors agree this is an atypical presentation of something that modern medicine isn’t caught up enough to help. Google won’t help in this case.

Hello, I have recently separated from my wife and have started living on my own. I have relocated back to my home state and live basically from couch to couch staying with whoever could help me at the time.

I've applied to various apartments and have been put on wait lists. I heard back from one really close to my job which would be an immense help but unfortunately am a little short of being able to afford it now. They require an initial deposit and first month rent at signing and after getting as much help as I could through other means I'm about 50 dollars short.

I don't have a sob story and I haven't done anything to really deserve the assistance but I ran out of options. I have been a stress unto my friends and those who support me and would like to not have to have them accommodate me any longer. I feel like a burden on them and it has caused me a lot of anxiety and depression.

I would like a place of my own so my kids can stay over with me and I can start my life over. If anyone is in the position to help I would appreciate it but understand if no one is able.

Hello. I am a Navy vet whose wife has survived cancer and is now blind. I was an OTR truck driver, but in order to care for her I have had to semi-retire and now drive a school bus for the hours. She gets her disability, but it is not enough. We cannot get together even enough to pay the taxes on our home, and they have started proceedings to take it to sheriff's sale.

We are going to lose our home, that we paid off. We have nowhere to go and no money to start new. We are looking for $1500 to $2000 to pay off the taxes so we can sell the home and move to something smaller. We raised 5 kids in this home, but now it is just us.

We have done everything we can to cut back, sold my car and motorcycle and bought a used car to get back and forth to work with better gas mileage and no payment. Cut back online services although we need the Internet since everything is online now. We don't go out, we buy bare minimum groceries, keep the heat low and more.

Getting another year to sell this home is pretty much our only way out. Thank you for reading.

Does anyone have any information on programs that might help out with car repairs?

I don't know what I'm going to do. Had the back brakes replaced, only to have a brand new caliper fail just a few months in. I had to get it repaired somewhere else, because the original mechanic wouldn't look at it for weeks. So, I do, I get the car back and notice a shake and a thump in the wheel, and the front rotor is now also shot on one side.

While I'm trying to figure this out? A back tire goes flat. It's so bald that they won't patch it. So now I've got a donut on there - which was a whole thing in and of itself, and which also went flat on the way home from trying to earn some money to do something about this.

I live in an extremely rural area that doesn't really have mass transportation options at all, and as am amputee? I just can't walk miles in the snow to get to Walmart anymore.

Has anyone successfully found a program that helps pay for car repairs? I've been up all night, stressing out, because I simply don't know what to do. I can't live here without a car, but I also can't afford to live anywhere else.
