Parents cleaned my tanks without asking :/ Betta

Came home today to this. First pic is what they put the fish in for god knows how long, last pic is my tank before they cleaned it. They told me it was bc my room looked “messy”. They are old so I don’t blame them…. But damn…

I don’t care how old you are or if you’re related you don’t destroy someone else’s property the fuck?

You think their parents went in with the intent of "destroying property"??

Being ignorant genuinely is not an excuse at all.

WHO touches other people’s belongings to this extent regardless?

Ya, not knowing isn’t an excuse. This just isn’t the sort of thing you do without talking to the person. I don’t care if it is your kid or not.

A part of me wonders if OP is an adult and this is their way of trying to get them to move out

the parents were visiting him

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. They obviously thought they were doing him a favor and most people outside the hobby have no idea these guys require cycling.

I mean shit, half the people new to the hobby do the same shit.

They’re getting down voted because ignorance isn’t an excuse and neither is good intent. If I don’t know how to operate a snow plow and I try to clear your driveway is all the good intent in the world going to help when I crash into your garage? No it isn’t.

They should know better than to fuck sound with things that aren’t theirs. Period.

Yall are weird as hell. It’s obvious the commenter didn’t excuse their behavior- they just aren’t gun ho about calling his parents sadists lol

It's because the intent kind of doesn't matter. You don't do something drastic to someone else's pet, to their art project, or to their personal space. Being ignorant about the complexity of an ecosystem is one thing. Having zero respect and common sense is another.

Like, I get it what you’re saying and don’t disagree. I’m just playing devils advocate here and saying they didn’t think they were destroying his property but rather doing him a favor- however misguided and tone deaf that is.

And yeah, I do believe intent matters because there’s a difference between someone purposefully killing and destroying my animals and doing so out of ignorance. One is forgivable and the other might cause me to get physically violent.
