AngryJoe’s reaction to Herald of Darkness and AW2 at the game awards. General

Didn’t really know what to put this post under, but holy smokes I thought the sub should hear about Angry Joe and his reaction to Alan Wake 2 winning its awards and the performance of HOD.

I was going after every game awards reaction to just see multiple people react to HOD and when I got to Joe I expected something different then what I saw. First off he was watching it with 2 or 3 others which was not unusual because most of the other streamers/YouTubers did the same thing. The problem starts with his overall demeanor as it really seems he would have rather been doing anything else, and according to his comments section on like the 3 and a half hours every-time Alan Wake 2 or even Baldurs Gate 3 won an award all 3 of them called it pandering?

I start scrolling to find the best moment of the show and find it and wow did I find 3 grown men being the most absolute “douches” I thought I had ever seen. Literally during the whole segment of the live performance they were complaining how they “didn’t understand or how cringy” it was. And don’t get me started on what they said about Sam Lake.

They were absolutely ripping to shreds and the comment section noticed it too, calling all 3 of them out on it. I don’t like to be a negative person but damn read the room, they seem to be the only ones to have had a problem with it. I also did my research and multiple fans of the Angry Joe show have said he started Alan Wake 2 but never finished the prologue.

Edit: Thank you guys for all the comments, but I want to get some things straight. I simply don’t really care what Joe says and was stating that this guy seemed to be the only one airing his grievances with Alan Wake 2. That’s all he’d do when a category AW2 was nominated for came up. The one thing that bothered me and one of the reasons I created the post was his hypocritical stance from years ago I forgot to put originally that he said “gaming is creatively dead”but when a creatively amazing game comes out he plays for like 1 hour and quits because too me he was simply bad at the game.

It's really sad that "ignorant Joe" still have so many views... His comments are genuinely stupid and very ignorant.

I did watch his videos back when he focused on making funny sketches and review smaller actually bad titles, it was funny 15 years ago or so.

After he started making movie reviews(which are terrible) and almost daily "news" episodes I gave up entirely, the stupidity output coming from that channel would fill a pool.

So the best thing we can do is pretend his channel doesn't exist.

u/Skylight90 FBI Agent Dec 10 '23

Same, I found his reviews quite entertaining back in the day but he's definitely never been a good critic. Especially since it seems like he's doubled down on "shitting on things for views" shtick instead of acting like a grownup and being professional.

u/EckimusPrime Dec 10 '23

He’s exhausting. Like I can’t even enjoy him ripping a game i dislike. His whole shtick is played out at this point.

11

u/LeJayCookieChan Dec 10 '23

Right? I dont understand. First time I (unfortunately) saw one of his vids he came across as (ironic) cringy. He doesn’t deserve any of the attention he may get by posting negative feedback. We all know the game is awesome.

9

u/Hero2Zero91 Dec 10 '23

He was from Channel Awesome so a lot of his shtick is was already dated like the rest of the bunch, just that he managed to be one of the few that managed to keep going

Haven't really watched the guy after his Capcom hate days and the whole Mass Effect 3 ending drama.

Angry Joe is just some washed up YouTube loser, who cares what he thinks? Dude has terrible opinions about a lot of shit.

36

u/ItzBabyJoker Dec 10 '23

He reminds me of CinemaSins… a bad novelty that runs out of humor almost immediately

6

u/superblat Dec 11 '23

You’re right on the nose

2

u/TheGoldenPineapples Cult of the Tree Dec 11 '23

Their podcast is a lot more interesting.

It is also worth pointing out that as annoying and obnoxious as CinemaSins can be, they have said on multiple occasions that their videos aren't supposed to be taken seriously, and that they aren't actual critiques, they're just dumb jokes they wanted to make about a film.

2

u/LeonardChurch115 Oct 14 '24

That's kind of an issue when they mix in actual critiques into their video, which muddies the water of what is jokes and what is actual critique. It also hurts that the jokes aren't funny and the critiques usually are bad.

I have watched him for many years and still enjoy his reviews and content. It’s a shame this is how he treated the performance/Alan wake 2, but we don’t need to act like everything he’s ever done is obsolete or wrong. Sam lake can wipe his tears over their response with the awards

-8

u/hotsaucehank Dec 11 '23

Loser? The Guy became a millionaire from making funny videos on youtube. Pretty sure hes doing alot better than you.

14

u/Loli_Master Dec 11 '23

You can still be a loser with money

7

I mean look at Elon. Lots of cash, giant loser.

Sounds like a lot of coping bro

Who the fuck cares about Angry Joe......guy is a full on loser in a jacket getting fake mad about games to promote his videos...

Like a shit Angry Video Game Nerd.

31

u/Fan221203 Dec 10 '23

I was mostly just referencing his reactions compared to most others that I had seen.

23

u/cmariano11 Dec 10 '23

He's doing it because negative attention is attention

12

u/LargoDeluxe Park Ranger Dec 10 '23

And hate-watching on repeat still counts as views.

61

Guy is nearly 40 years old wearing a jacket screaming at a video game camera....

Wouldn't bother with his opinion tbh.

Like who calls something cringe except prepubescent kids afraid of their own sexuality...

Hm, I'm 45 but not running a YouTube channel. I will say that anyone who actually remembers the 80s would love HoD

Nothing to do with the jacket, it's just a sad pathetic character of an old man hiding his clown shoes.

This is the right way. For every single thing you care about, there are 10,000 "influencers" and content creators calling it shit to drum up drama and clicks.

The more you get angry about it, the more you click on their videos and engage in their comments section (or create a reddit thread about it) even if its to defend the thing you like, the more money you give them, along with motivation to keep doing it.

The only way to respond is to ignore them. Block them. Pretend they don't exist. You will live a much much happier life.

115

u/CecilyRenns Dec 10 '23

I used to watch Angry Joe but looking back, he is emblematic of the worst, the most toxic aspects of "Gamer Bro" culture. Him and his friends embody the average gamer in every sense - complains and performatively rages about "modern gaming", but when games like AW2 and BG3 actually tries to be works of art, then they're too "cringe" and "pretentious" now. Yet, they continue to buy and review the next Call of Duty and Ubisoft games, because those are the most popular titles.

18

u/These_Artist_5044 Dec 10 '23

They had nothing but positive things to say about BG3 while playing it. Wonder what changed their minds...

Work of art lmao it's a playable movie with the actual gameplay being the worst part

32

u/CecilyRenns Dec 10 '23

A rather spicy take to make in the Alan Wake subreddit, but okay!

23

u/smaxup Dec 10 '23

Yes believe it or not, games can be an art form just like movies and music

7

u/Diamond_Champagne Dec 10 '23

You run around, shoot enemies, solve puzzles and collect stuff. Like 90% of games. What the fuck is your point?

88

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '23

Joe's washed who gives a shit what he thinks about literally anything.

29

u/Spoonie360 Dec 10 '23

That dude is a joke. Not shocked at all he didn't like the live performance. He knows he's a has been, so he's probably negative about everything around him.

57

u/ecxetra Dec 10 '23

Here’s the timeline of events:

  • AJ is playing Alan Wake 2 on Twitch, complaining constantly about long loading times and poor performance

  • At some point it’s mentioned he installed it on a HDD (minimum spec recommends an SSD, since it’s 2023)

  • I tell him he needs to reinstall it on an SSD and it’s his own fault that the game is performing poorly

  • He basically calls me an idiot

  • 10 mins later he reinstalls it on an SSD

  • All of his issues are fixed

  • Proceeds to not admit he was wrong, stops playing the game and never touches it again

  • Hates on it relentlessly at TGA and throws undeserved disrespect at Sam Lake and Remedy

He only got to the part where Nightingale comes back to life btw, so like 2 hours tops.

16

u/RcregerRemedy04 Dec 10 '23

Just shows how little research he did on the game. Didn't even look at the recs. Also just all around a douche if that happened. Man-child activity.

21

u/Cold417 Dec 10 '23

Sounds like he's got a shitty gaming setup for someone who's supposed to be regarded as a knowledgeable game reviewer. Wouldn't value his advice for nil.

3

u/breadrising Dec 11 '23

Sounds like someone who should no longer get your views and clicks. We need to stop giving these people money by giving them attention.

2

u/lolsagc Dec 11 '23

What did he even say about Sam Lake because i don’t want to go and actually listen to Angry Joe

68

u/Barl0we Dec 10 '23

I don’t really care about anyone whose schtick is being angry.

At best it’s fake rage bait, at worst it’s regressive / conservative assholes getting mad that games aren’t just what they were 25 years ago.

Regardless, it’s someone who makes negativity their entire thing, and I’m not here for that.

17

u/LargoDeluxe Park Ranger Dec 10 '23

Seriously. There's a whole YT subgenre of excited/thrilled reaction videos around the live HoD performance, and this is what this sub is focused on? Let's do better.

13

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '23

"Back in my day, men were men and women were exactly what they were told to do!" - men living in a conservative fantasy world featuring a past that never existed

2

u/PinoDegrassi Dec 11 '23

Lmao I don’t see where being conservative has any relevance here. Angry Joe and the guys are pretty progressive and leftist. AJ has plenty of positive stuff. Their reviews are usually pretty in depth and they’ve done a great job calling out unethical game releases and practices in the video game industry. Credit where due is important. But it’s a shame that they shit on a game that is also totally against those video game industry plagues

1

u/Beardybeardface2 Dec 10 '23

Tbf Angry Joe despite the name isn't really a chud as far as I've seen and most of the time it's child like enthusiasm rather than the advertised shouting. He isn't a good critic but compared to so many idiots out there he's quite likeable.

3

u/Barl0we Dec 10 '23

Huh, sounds like poor branding then 😅 I’ve always kept away from him because it sounded like a bummer.

Then again, he probably doesn’t care. I’m betting there are more people who like that schtick than who don’t.

65

u/pope-buster Old Gods Rocker Dec 10 '23

Who's angry, Joe, and why should I care? Has he been in the industry or just another insufferable nobody who shouts their opinion as facts?

-19

u/Fan221203 Dec 10 '23

Angry Joe is I’d say one of the top 10 video games reviewers on YouTube don’t know if he is now realistically but he was for the longest time. His takes got progressively worse over time and now when a game he doesn’t like gets recognized for its achievements apparently it’s “sympathy vote” for getting nominated and winning.

27

u/Reutermo Dec 10 '23

Angry Joe is I’d say one of the top 10 video games reviewers on YouTube

I watched him over a decade ago, and while I enjoyed his stuff from time to time I would never say that he was the top video game reviewer, and especially not now. He is from the "angry video game critic that think screaming and exegeration is funny" era.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '23

Maybe we could agree that he's a narcissistic attention farmer who, in order to "grow his base", turned to less and less decent ways of garnering attention and maintaining viewership, eventually ending up in the "negative attention, negative projection" cycle he's in now.

Or not, I don't know, we don't have to agree it's just what I think. :)

4

u/the-blob1997 Dec 10 '23

He was 100% one of the more popular reviewers say about 5 years ago but he definitely fell off in the last 2-3 years but I don’t know what his current content is like as I haven’t watched him in the last year and a half.

11

u/Fan221203 Dec 10 '23

Granted this is the dude who also a couple of years ago believed that gaming was going creatively bankrupt.

6

u/alienbehindproxies Dec 10 '23

for a while that's where it seemed it was going. thankfully we have games like elden ring, bg3, aw2, etc to show that there are still passion games out there.

-7

u/SwordofKhaine123 Dec 10 '23

he is not wrong about this. The over-flooding of battleroyales, soulless open world games (looking at you ubisoft) during the years past were dark times indeed.

Only consistent shining lights were Capcom games (except RE3), Doom Eternal, Sekiro, GoW, RDR2, Elden Ring

Ofcourse there were great indie games like Phasmophobia, Inscryption, Subnautica Below Zero but the AAA space was pretty terrible.

-4

u/Fun-Bug4314 Dec 10 '23

He was right about that part. Gaming from big publishers is pretty much creatively bankrupt.

17

u/RcregerRemedy04 Dec 10 '23

Yeah, but it is kinda ironic that he just full on neglects the creative side of games as seen with the OPs post. He complains about it but obviously doesn’t care about it.

Can’t believe I used to watch that guy, he was going downhill for a while.

5

u/RedMoon14 Dec 10 '23

The irony of posting this in a thread talking about Alan Wake 2’s creativity, as well as Baldur’s Gate 3.

51

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '23

Ok, now I lost all my respect to Angry Joe. The fact the he showed no respect to Sam Lake who waited years to finally make a sequel to Alan Wake and finally had his dream come true just shows he doesn't care about the game devs. He only cares about the status of their projects.

10

u/t0talimm0rtalz138 Dec 11 '23

Sam Lake is a god damn genius

13

u/DeliciousToastie Hypercaffeinated Dec 10 '23

Here's the thing, people getting mad at Alan Wake 2 winning anything, or not understanding why it was nominated in the first place, are no different from people who got mad when Parasite won "Best Picture", or Mad Max Fury Road winning 6 awards, at the Oscars.

I mentioned this in another comment, but people are quick to turn the lack of understanding something, into hating it. I've heard and seen plenty of comments calling Alan Wake 2 a "shit game" or saying things like "It was only nominated because it just came out" - because they can't understand why it's being regarded as a good game, or even a masterpiece to some. They want to feel included in that positivity, but they can't so they'll turn to something else - dismissive hate, even if they don't believe in hating it in the first place.

The truth is, not every game made is for everyone, especially titles from Remedy. It's the same deal that Elden Ring went through when that game was released, the general masses got hold of that game and couldn't wrap their heads around the idea of why people would enjoy dying to a boss 100 times before beating it, so they called it a terrible game. They didn't truly hate the game though, they just didn't understand the game, or the people who enjoy it.

At the end of the day, if Angry Joe or any others who are dismissive of the game don't enjoy it, don't let it rub you the wrong way. You played it, you understood it, and got what it was going for and walked away being able to appreciate what it set out to accomplish. It's just unfortunate that not everyone can do that.

31

u/arsenicknife Dec 10 '23

Angry Joe has become a parody of his own gimmick. If anyone is pandering, it's him to his audience. He wants to be Yahtzee so badly but he has zero nuance, charisma, or wit.

25

u/AllMighto Dec 10 '23

I thought it is obvious that people who never played alan wake 2 would find it cringe. You care too much about other people opinion lol

9

u/EckimusPrime Dec 10 '23

I’ve never played it and I absolutely love watching that segment.

2

u/Onizuka_89 Dec 11 '23

Because you probably love videogames in general and you have the general knowledge (and intellect) to understand that it was a tribute to a videogame. I swear, no one can hate that kind of things if it is genuinely into videogames and care about them (especially seeing Sam Lake with that big smile).

Unfortunately a lot of people lack in intellect, nothing new.

1

u/Fan221203 Dec 10 '23

See but that’s the thing other people I watched for their reactions enjoyed the segment and thought it was awesome. Joe seemed to be the only one freaking out about it.

u/Own_Chocolate_9966 Dec 10 '23

I used to watch Angry Joe (still watch sometimes, but most of his vids are whinier than ever). The guy also shat on Quantum Break when it came out. Most of his criticisms in games don't even make sense. For example, he wishes a game being like some other cliche thing we all have seen before."This 3rd person action game should have been Rts, then I would like it" type of asinine take.

Most of his reviews are padded out by clips from other people that have been posted on social media. Sometimes, he even uses the same exact clip, like 2 and 3, to drag the same joke he tries to make. What's the point of watching his "reviews" when a lot of it them are reddit clips compilation. He also has 0 attention span and needs constantly to be entertained.

45

u/Tellmeabouthebow Dec 10 '23

You should have some context here that Angryjoe is one of the biggest manbabies on the internet (he used actual slurs when he was mad about TLOU2 for god's sake lmao) and also he has a personal thing against Geoff Keighley + TGAs because of Keighley making a fool of him during an interview way way back. Just totally disregard any opinion of his you ever here.

22

u/pty17 Dec 10 '23

Was hoping someone would mention the Keighley interview. Angry Joe is just holding a grudge for getting dismantled after trying to pull a gotcha moment on Keighley. He'll just keep complaining about The Game Awards and anything Geoff touches.

4

u/Scharmberg Dec 11 '23

I totally forgot about that lol. People really dont don’t do interviews with Joe anymore which is not surprising.

15

u/sgill7 Dec 10 '23

I knew Joe was one of the major YouTubers pushing the hate brigade for Last of us part 2 but I had no idea the dude used slurs as well. I refused to watch his actual video on it because I didn’t wanna give him my viewership/clicks and any revenue that came with it. I’m glad I never clicked on his shit.

Angry Joe is worst of them all. Boring and just exhausting cringe of fake outrage.
With similar content, like HeelvsBabyface, you can be "in on it" and laugh with the performative absurd over the top outrage.
No such case with Angry Joe.

8

u/Guiltyjedi14 Dec 10 '23

UPDATE: JOE REMOVED THE VIDEO OFF YOUTUBE.

The comments were going hard on him and his buddy's for just disrespecting Sam Lake and the Old gods. Honestly he was just so off putting during that whole sequence.

7

u/cronopius Dec 10 '23

Oh not to mention his insightful movie "reviews" cause he really thinks of himself as a serious movie critic 🧐.

7

u/Old_Bar5436 Dec 10 '23

Joe's a man child with a hate boner for Geoff after Geoff utterly humiliated him at the VGAs when he was trying to be smug and make him slip during an interview.

6

u/Psymorte Dec 11 '23

It's still wild to me how Joe thought he could get away with approaching Geoff the way he did and somehow get out of it looking good, and he's got the gall to still hold a grudge for it with zero self awareness.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '23

I just watched that interview. That was the most painful thing I've witnessed in a long time, and I work in medicine.

Joe was so hilariously unprepared and unprofessional (and seemingly super nervous?) that I felt deep second hand embarrassment.

I haven’t played Alan Wake and that was the best part of the show, it made me look forward to finally playing it.

That dude is the absolute worst. I noticed years ago that he has absolutely no imagination whatsoever, he just doesn’t “get” a whole bunch of stuff. If something has a complex story it just goes right over his head and he proceeds to bitch about it, dude’s in the wrong line of work.

I really can’t stand the big guy who joined them a few years ago too. The one who loves himself and does all the self conscious facial expressions n shit, and seems to really hate Joe. Keep your fuckin eyebrows still mate.

Angry Joe used to make great content and now he just sucks. He used to have valid opinions when it comes to video games but now he just leans all the way into one direction so he can generate rage for views. His best content was his angry reviews and now he puts them out months after a games release. Who cares what he thinks, alan wake 2 is a piece of art

5

People still watch that clown? That guy doesn't understand art, it's beyond his IQ capability.

6

u/SaintKaiser89 Dec 10 '23

I watched him a lot in the early 2010s, I thought some of his stuff was pretty funny. Eventually something changed and it wasn’t for me anymore. Sad to see he decided negativity was the way to keep his success.

Sexual assault allegations came out and rather than handle it like a normal person or grow up, he did a hard turn into the YouTube reactionary shitpile that he used to mock before.

Dude unironically blows up into a vomit of slurs in streams now and his reviews of stuff like TLOU2 and Starfield are just brimming with bias and clickbaiting.

This is the dude that unironically thought TLOU1 success was solely because he covered the game.

He became a political activist. Then went too far into the deep end where it got delusional. It got tiring how he had to religiously bring up misogyny is bad and right wingers are bad and so on. Nearly every video when it wasn't even relevant.

He does't seem into the medium of games at all

I commented on both of his videos about this. I was actually a little triggered by his response and honestly shocked at his musical reaction. Completely delusional. I’ve been watching his stuff less and less now. He just gets more brainless as time goes on it seems like. His streams are horrible to watch because he mostly just Fs off while the game is telling him stuff.

u/Vannnnah Herald of Darkness Dec 10 '23

Don't give time, energy or EXPOSURE to douchebags.

Next time don't give him the view time on Youtube, watch until you've seen what you need to see, give it a thumbs down or whatever and be done with it. Everything else will tell the algorithm he's relevant and recommend the video to other people.

And don't post on Reddit, making people who have never heard of him google him because again, that's money in his pocket.

9

u/Ndrade Dec 10 '23

Joe is a fucking loser. I noticed back on the last of us two review and play through. He does not play the video games he reviews. It’s absolutely pointless watching anything he reviews we know he doesn’t play the games.

9

u/Mufti_Menk Dec 10 '23

That guy hasn't been relevant in like 10 years now and his channel is basically dead, so who cares lmao

-9

u/the-blob1997 Dec 10 '23

He was definitely relevant in the last 10 years lmao what a dumb statement but he has for sure fell off in the last 2-3 years.

4

u/Weed_Smith Dec 10 '23

Joe’s opinions were generally crap 5+ years ago, I didn’t even know he was still relevant

5

u/DiaperFluid Dec 10 '23

Angry Joe and his cast of characters have been heavily jaded for awhile now. You have to remember, that reviewing and playing games is their job. And like any job, it becomes fucking annoying after awhile lmao. Thats why il never ever turn a hobby into a job. I can enjoy almost every game that comes out. Ubisoft slop, COD slop, it doesnt matter to me. If my income depended on me complaining about something i supposedly "love", id start to get annoyed with anything that isnt 100% for me.

Anyone else who complained is likely someone who just plays cod and madden and wanted to see gta6 gameplay. They are ignorant fucks who dont like video games as a whole, they just enjoy their certain genre of games and dont bother learning or respecting anything else about this "hobby".

3

u/Bluebpy Dec 10 '23

Unsubbed a LONG time ago. Was good like 5 years go and earlier.

4

u/Lisa4414 Dec 10 '23

I stopped watching him a few years back because it felt like he and his friends just hated everything. I don’t mind criticizing something as long as it’s balanced but it got to the point where they felt like old men yelling at the sky. If you don’t like what you do that much move on to something you do.

4

u/OMG_NoReally Dec 10 '23

Never liked Joe and his style of videos. It all seems fake, he shouts a lot for no reason, and his "angry" persona has gotten old. He is still sticking to it because that gets him the views, but sometimes when I watch his content, he seems bored out of his mind, and so do the other two guys with him who just seems absolutely disinterested in doing any sort of content.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '23

This is why I stopped watching reactions to these shows entirely everyone is such a cunt all the time and always finds something to be mad about or be disrespectful about. The general audience is guilty too it's not just big YouTubers and shit being all cynical about everything it's a lot of the general audience too a lot of the time. Nobody knows how to just sit back and enjoy something they always need to find something to bitch about. I'm so exhausted of always seeing it and I'm trying to just stay away from people's opinions on the internet in general. Nobody is ever all "eh it's just not for me and that's fine" it's always fucking "THIS IS LITERALLY THE STUPIDEST FUCKING THING AND IF YOU ENJOY IT YOU ARE A SHILL"

He’s gotten worse over the years…i stopped watching him.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '23

I used to watch Angry Joe but it’s been a long time. I never got the vibe he was a very thoughtful individual. Given his comments it sounds like he didn’t play AW2 or BG3? Two of the biggest titles this year? How did those pass him by? Does he even review games anymore?

10

u/Ahenshihael Dec 10 '23 edited Dec 10 '23

Dude just does the reactionary reviews stuff now.

He still streams but most of his gameplay has him fucking off mid cutscene to do random shit or complaining that game didn't explain him anything while talking about how in the old days games used to be good. There's absolutely no passion for games or anything there left.

He also has an axe to grind with Geoff because back in the days when Joe pretended to do interviews, Geoff very rightfully made an absolute fool of him. He has held a grudge for almost a decade now.

His biggest accomplishment in the last decade is ranting about TLOU2 while using genuinely awful actual slurs. The review of the game is just him ranting that muscle doesn't fit women alongside all other awful shit. Meanwhile the majority of people that had worked with him have silently cut ties.

That should be obvious what his content caters to now. He's a few steps away from being that baldie who had a nervous breakdown about pronouns in Starfield.

And all it took for him to go this way was allegations of shitty real life behaviour coming to light.

Now he's the YouTube content creator equivalent of awful boomer comic strips about phones.

3

u/Background_Pension71 Dec 11 '23

He played alan wake 2 for 2 hours stopped and said it was boring

2

u/[deleted] Dec 11 '23

Breaking News: man who calls himself "Angry" Joe harvests clicks from maladjusted basement dwellers by hating on anything he can.

Not knocking you OP, you're coming at this from a fan's perspective. I'm a very critical person and I personally love what they did with Old Gods of Asgard / Herald of Darkness, both at the show, and especially in-game. I've never seen such an inventive and well-designed sequence as I have playing through that chapter. It's so creative, delightfully mad, but also hits the highest marks for quality and execution of the idea.

If he wanted to hate on something legit, he could have hated on the fact that Poets of the Fall scrambled for work visas so they could do a 2-minute performance of a single song on the stage and then be rushed off so they could announce "Hideo Kojima's Face Simulator" or "Monster Hunter 17" or the other ads most viewers (sadly) were only there to see.

But no, he's an outrage farmer -- he finds angry disaffected men (yes, mostly just men, if you can even call them that), preys on their poor mental health, then drums up money for himself by perpetuating a cycle of negativity that just makes them feel even worse and more "victimized" by anything that doesn't jive with their extremely narrow and unhealthy worldviews.

Get that money Angry Joe, and fuck you.

3

u/ilikepacificdaydream Dec 10 '23 edited Dec 10 '23

I don't hate AJS, but those 3 Chads are just unfunny and unoriginal.

I find it odd that all his reviews come out a month or so after release. He does the same speech before every review apologizing for it taking so long and they're very busy.

Like, busy with what? Lol. You do a news show like everyone else and trailer reactions.

3

u/MTBDadGamer_ Dec 10 '23

3

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '23

I still can’t believe Angry Joe is popular.

3

u/Naked_Bat Dec 10 '23

He should try to be less angry, it's not good for his health to stay in that mood for so long. It would also help him appreciate great games like Alan Wake 2.

3

u/Bamboozlerino Dec 10 '23

What'd they say about Lake?

3

u/Fan221203 Dec 10 '23

That he shouldn’t be doing the dancing in HOD and that it sounded like to me that he was embarrassing himself and making it even more cringe.

3

u/12thCaptain Champion of Light Dec 10 '23 edited Dec 10 '23

I will say that I enjoy an Angry Joe video here and there but their takes were pretty awful.

I had thumbed through their Game Awards reaction and I believe they said that none of the 3 watching had played Alan Wake 2 so they weren’t exactly set to judge it fairly to begin with. Also noting that if you haven’t played Alan Wake 2 then watching Herald of Darkness is quite a shocker.

Overall it would have been more appropriate to just enjoy the show, note that HoD is not what you expected and that you didn’t play Alan Wake 2, and move on instead of complaining about “cringe” and being loud and obnoxious. And that goes for all 3 of them as they all did it, not just one of them.

Edit: Forget what I said. I pulled the video up again to watch it and I swear it is even worse than when I thumbed through it last night. I couldn’t sit through it. That loud douche in the back groaning while HoD was going is unbearable. Have some respect for people. I didn’t agree with some of the winners but I didn’t throw a fit like that bastard. Good Lord.

Edit edit: Looks like he removed the video and put a post on X/Twitter saying he got blasted for not liking HoD and “Im sorry to whoever I hurt & who lost faith in me for not praising it & many of the weak trailers.” What a douchey response.

3

u/Domination1799 Dec 10 '23

I used to watch Joe back in 2010 but I stopped because his reviews are hit and miss. Some games he properly praises while some games and movies he completely misses the point. When people use the term “lacking media literacy,” I think of today’s Angry Joe.

A great example of games and movies that he didn’t get the point of and just didn’t give a chance is Blade Runner 2049 and The Last of Us Part 2. Say whatever you want about Part II, however Joe’s playthrough, cover of the leaks, and reviews shows how narrow minded he can be.

3

u/Pen_dragons_pizza Dec 10 '23

Angry Joe used to be alright but the guy now is so awkward to watch, just feels like a bunch of old jaded men hating on stuff for no reason.

I especially cannot stand the moment he stops in his videos to try and sell something, has this fake as fuck grin being all positive about that product and it just rubs me up the wrong way.

3

u/Bolt_995 Dec 10 '23

AJ is an absolute clown.

Never understood his appeal for several years, finally sealed it for me for his bullshit take on TLOU Part II.

He doesn’t deserve the attention, even with this post.

4

u/n11n1st0 Dec 10 '23

Used to like his reviews but he's gotten insufferable lately

3

u/Nizharu Herald of Darkness Dec 10 '23

I don't have patience with that kind of crap from youtubers anymore.

Ugh he's an irritating reviewer. I've never been entertained or informed by his videos. Honestly don't know how he has a following.

4

u/Ykindasus Dec 10 '23

I completely fell off of Angry Joe after his undeserved hatred towards Deathloop, even though I LOVE that game and can understand people not being interested in it, he needlessly tore it and said nobody wanted to play it, that really hurt and I just stopped watching after that, and also his ignorance towards certain games and movies puts me off.

4

u/a0lmasterfender Dec 10 '23

lost all respect for him after his lou2 review

2

u/HungryZealot Dec 10 '23

Yeah, I haven't watched him in forever. He's been spiraling more and more into manbabiness. When even his reviews of objectively bad games got so over the top.

Yeah well, subscription cancelled. Good bye AJ you won’t be missed.

2

u/nikolapc Dec 10 '23

You can't be a critic and a streamer. I stopped taking him seriously when he wasn't paying attention at all when all THREE of them were taking turns playing last of us, and then had the gull to criticize it. He's only entertaining when he's tearing into a bad game.

2

u/personwriter Dec 10 '23

Meh, I don't need a youtube personality to validate or invalidate my excitement for Alan Wake II's wins or the HOD live extravaganza. I got to totally fan-out and see a hardworking dev team be recognized for their hard effort and risks... and that was all the validation I needed.

The only thing that sucked is Sam and the Remedy team didn't get to properly give speeches, but even though that was the worst part of the TGAs I'm not going to join the pile on Geoff about it.

GK acknowledged he was too aggro about the speech times, and has shown a track record of listening to viewer feedback, we'll see next year. I'm willing to give him the chance to fix his mistakes. At the end of the day, he made the HOD performance happen and exposed more people to how fun and unique of experience AW II genuinely was.

2

u/Blackwolfe47 Dec 10 '23

After he did his ridiculous and stupid starfield review i was disgusted with the guy

2

u/f0ur_G Dec 11 '23

Honestly got fed up with his attitude long ago and that was the point I realised he's a bit of a cunt. Unsubscribed to his channel as well as his socials a while ago and never looked back

2

u/swettyGLUE Dec 11 '23

Not that I had respect for the guy but he definitely lost his credibility with me because of his anti AW2 theatrics. Dudes a chump

2

u/t0talimm0rtalz138 Dec 11 '23

Alan Wake 2 is my game of the year so whatever moronic shit Joe said is just him misunderstanding it

2

u/TheLegendofZeus Dec 11 '23

Angry Joe has become unbearable, he is awful and should not be paid attention to.

2

u/mykitchenromance Dec 11 '23

I heard another YouTuber call it cringe too and sure, I get it - it’s silly and random but goddamn it, it’s fun. I wouldn’t be surprised if this strikes deep within some kind of fragile masculine thing that finds dancing utterly repulsive. 🤷‍♂️

2

u/Onizuka_89 Dec 11 '23 edited Dec 11 '23

I have fun watching his reviews, but I think he doesn't truly love videogames in general, he also lacks on objective thinkign and critical skill sometimes (not saying he doesn't know videogames).

Most important, he didn't play Alan Wake 2, so he didn't have the knowledge to judge that performance on stage, he thought that it was some improvised musical for the TGA and made himself look like an ignorant.

Don't take him too seriously, at the end of the day he's no one, like the rest of us.

u/MocoNinja Dec 10 '23

Yea, i was watching his reaction and tought it was really weird, specially the 2 other dudes, angry joe tried saying "hey, it's something thats in the game that we're not getting". But even then, i can't understand not liking that performance.

i had only played 1 hour of alan wake before watching the game awards, and i fucking LOVED the live performance, yesterday i kept playing more just to see that in game (and it's even more amazing).

Joe is the dude who heard about Last of Us 2 leaks and immediately bought the story of “abbey is a tranny who kills daddy Joel” and started bashing the game before it even came out

4

u/A__Smith Dec 10 '23

They do it to get a reaction, which you have given them.

While it’s not gratifying, just gotta ignore shock jock YouTubers.

Enough people do it, and they disappear.

2

u/horaceinkling Dec 10 '23

I understand your reasoning, but there’s no reason to bring his shitty attitude into our sub. This a victory lap for the fandom who waited 13 years for more Alan Wake, finally getting to see their game in the spotlight and given huge exposure. There’s no reason to share someone yucking on our yums.

2

u/antwonlevee Dec 10 '23

I have only watched one of his videos, but isn't his whole gimmick that he just shits on stuff?

2

u/LiluLay Dec 10 '23

Gods, I’m glad I don’t pay attention or give af about YouTube gamer people. Just play games and enjoy them, I say. Fuck whatever negative bullshit anyone else’s opinion is. We know AW2 is a fucking masterpiece and the musical number was brilliant, both in game and especially live. We know, and that’s what matters.

2

u/Gloomy_Word7570 Dec 10 '23

I understand not liking a game but the disrespect to remedy by saying its a "sympathy award" while not even getting pass the prologue yourself is wild.

3

What even is the point of this post. Who cares about AngryJoe doing a thing.

3

u/the-blob1997 Dec 10 '23

Why the fuck do you care what some YouTuber thinks? Lmao all that matters is that you enjoyed it.

2

u/Youremakingmefart Dec 10 '23

Why exactly do you think “the sub should hear about Angry Joe’s reaction”? You got your feelings hurt because some random Internet personality insulted something you like, so you want us to tell you it’s okay and Joe is a dumb idiot?

1

u/GrossWeather_ Dec 10 '23

I try to avoid using the word cringe to describe anything but I’ve seen a few AJ videos and they are the epitomy of cringe. Who cares.

4

u/PAXTF1999 Dec 10 '23

I think that game is quite divisive. Issue with Alan wake 2 is that he hasn’t actually played it and keeps talking down on it like it’s worthless

That’s a real shame, and you’re totally safe to vent here. I’m actually a big fan of Angry Joe. He usually vocalizes the wrong things in the industry. Mostly for my own catharsis than anything.

But he definitely dropped the ball here. I didn’t see the video yet, Maybe it was just a bad mix of things. (Not enough game reveals, it being out of context for them & whatnot) clearly I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt 😅 but still. Remedy did not deserve that. Thankfully it seems Joe is just a drop in a pond that otherwise loved the performance. Twitter is showing love at least. And we all know that’s rare 😂

2

u/sgill7 Dec 10 '23

I was never a fan of Angry Joe and when he went on a hate brigade for The Last of Us 2 I thought he was kinda a piece of shit. Nice to know that my feelings on him are still correct.

2

u/WereAllGonnaDiet Dec 10 '23

Imagine giving a shit what streamers think about games you like.

1

u/Empire_TW Dec 10 '23

Generally speaking what Joe says really doesn't matter, his whole channel these days is telling his fans what they want to hear. Except in certain cases which usually ends up in interesting stuff happening on Twitter. Also don't get caught up on people hating on stuff you like, don't give them your time.

1

u/muszyzm Dec 10 '23

Imagine watching "angry" content creators these days. It's one of the most cringe type of persona and reeks of boomer energy.

1

u/skepticallygullible Dec 10 '23

I never heard of Angry Joe until this post, but believe me, cynicism will eat you alive and reinforce what you perceive as a shitty life. Focus on the things you enjoy about life (and gaming) and unless you have the power to change things then push all that negativity to the side.

1

u/jaegerrpilot Dec 10 '23

Can't stand that guy after his "review" of TLOU2. Stopped watching him after that. Sad to see he's still the same person.

1

u/Mau-bro Dec 10 '23

This is what happens when you think just because you are a YouTuber you have to have an opinion about everything.

My first console was a Master System, I've been gaming for a while now yet I understand that not everything is for me but that's not an excuses to shit on things I don't understand.

Meanwhile you have someone like PatStaresAt (formerly AngriestPat) who watched the TGAs with his wife and was just smiling and singing along with the song because he loved it so much. Pat even played We Sing a second time during his stream of the game. His wife (PeachSaliva) even said "[people saying the performance was cringe] You are joyless and your dick is small. That was so fucking cool."

Just gotta find people who actually care about and appreciate artistic creativity.

I liked the musical number in the context of the game but musical numbers as a performance will always be a little silly. I'm saying this as a fan of musicals. I'm not an Angry Joe fan at all but I imagine a lot of people were like "WTF is this?"

0

u/JoeFilz Dec 10 '23

Don’t get mad about what anything a guy with a chinstrap says

0

u/ShadowDen3869 Dec 11 '23

Yeah, I really like Angry Joe and most of his videos, I find him and his friends funny and sometimes wholesome. B

But I kinda lost respect for him when he was ripping on Alan Wake 2. Like, it is THE single player game! Something that he keeps saying we need more of. He gave The Last of Us a 10/10. This should be his kind of game, but I don't understand why the negativity!

He certainly didn't play the game and is riding the Baldur's gate 3 hype train and yes, I'm playing that game as well and it's fucking amazing, but his behaviour with AW2 was just sad to see.

0

u/twitch-switch Dec 11 '23

I haven't seen Joe's reaction, but I respect him being honest that he doesn't like it. I personally think the song is a bit long and exposition heavy, I still like it, but I don't expect everyone to like it.

And sometimes A.J. has garbage opinions, nobody agrees with everyone on all things, it doesn't mean I stop talking to someone and hate them for it.

0

u/ObyLFC6 Dec 11 '23

Saw a really strange reaction to the performance where they were being super snarky about it before comparing it to the ff7 performance and how women are so much greater than men

0

u/afcc1313 Dec 11 '23

Tbh I liked his news content up until last year I watched every single episode. It helped me keep up with some gaming news. Thing is, he has some of the dumbest fucking takes sometimes, including the Last of Us 2 review, where he mostly talks 0 about gameplay and only rambles on about the story.

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '23

I've seen many streamers start AW2 and not enjoy it (ex. Dr. Disrespect) and gave up after one play session, as well as reviewers who didn't like it due to game breaking bugs, poor combat and itemization, cheesy live action skits, gimmicky detective system, and the fact that it's more of a movie than a game. I am someone who finds Alan Wake cringe due to them trying so hard to be weird and the live action shit is just extra cringe. I enjoy Control a lot for the combat but the story was pointless to me, and alan wake 2 is just as confusing. I think it's fair to make fun of it for being weird and cringe, the dance sucks, the song is horrible, what's not to make of about it?

9

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '23

It's fine to not like something, but you should be able to say more than "it's cringe", especially if your job is to review things. Why does it make you cringe? Is it because it's "not your cup of tea", or is it because it's done badly/poorly?

Real reviewers review things based on what the thing is setting out to do and whether or not it does it well. When a grown-up reviews a children's movie they don't say "1 out of 5 stars, shit's cringe and I couldn't enjoy any of it", they say "3 out of 5 stars, the writing was decent but the animation was cheap and the jokes didn't land for kids or adults".

Not a reviewer? You're totally ok not liking it, I don't have to like whatever trash you cherish. I don't like pro wrestling (not saying you do), but I don't go to the WWE sub and knock it. I would, however, knock a reviewer who goes out of their way to say "I think it's cringe so that's why it sucks, no one should buy or play this because I'm a narrow-minded prick".
