You’ve been down there one day. Talk to me in 30 years

u/Nikonus 3d ago

Yeah, my Dad spent 30 years underground in low coal in Bell and Harlan Counties, Kentucky. Sad life.

I cant believe some people's lives are so consumed by a video game that they have to go out and replicate it irl. Its disturbing seein how popular minecraft is with kids

u/ShadowZepplin 4d ago

20

u/Marcellusk 4d ago

Hate to inform you, but you're not drawing power off the main grid.

u/ososalsosal 3d ago

It's rare that I'm shocked by the ferocity of a mild burn.

I have to add this to my arsenal.

u/TalDoMula777 3d ago

My Grandfather was a miner in Picher, Oklahoma. The most toxic ghost town in the US. My dad told me he purposely cut off his own thumb for the insurance to get out and start anew somewhere else.

Unfortunately the damage was already done. He died in his early 50’s/my dad was still in school.

That is some hard dangerous work and I respect the hell out of anyone who does it but also feel so badly for them and their family of what is to come.

u/Freedom_Addict 4d ago

Damm how do we still send real ppl to do that, there are other alternatives nowdays.

16

u/FireBomb84 4d ago

That is obviously India. It’s much, much better than a lot of the Dalit jobs.(the untouchables)

1

u/YokoChomo 2d ago

like the rat smokers ..

8

u/FerrumMonkey 3d ago

That space is just to cramp for any worker. We should send children, their small nimble bodies are meant for this

The UK no longer burns coal for power or has any deep coal mines.

4

u/Buying100K 4d ago

3

u/robrtsmtn 4d ago

This is why there is the UMWA in the US.

3

u/suejaymostly 4d ago

Some days I wake up and just don't want to do all the things, but this makes me a little ashamed.

2

u/pee_pee_poo_poo_8 4d ago

My knees and back are screaming watching this

2

u/seanigulous 4d ago

This is real work.

2

u/IllustriousFee6878 3d ago

Why does a human have to do this?

2

u/GeorgeZip01 3d ago

No way, that guy is about 12 picks from being in a cave in.

2

u/Whole-Debate-9547 4d ago

What does an avg coal miner make in a week? I’m interested

4

u/this_many_things 4d ago

Enough and that's about it lol can't find a across the board salary but it's not great not awful. Probably enough to feed yourself and pay some bills and raise a kid or two.

5

u/TimonAndPumbaAreDead 4d ago

These days, that's riches beyond measure lol

1

u/blaz3meowt 4d ago

1

u/Hellboydce 3d ago

I’ve been on a tour of an old Victorian era pit, must of been the worst job in the world. Fuck that shit

1

u/jackrip761 4d ago

🎶Fuck no, fuck no, that is a big fat no...now take that axe and shove it up your ass, fuck no, fuck no, fuck no, fuck noooooo.🎶

1

u/Sea-Chocolate6589 4d ago

My asthma would never

1

u/Liddle_but_big 4d ago

That’s brutal. Mining must be the worst. Do we need underground or can we do surface mining instead?

1

u/AliasNefertiti 3d ago

One goes where the coal is. Surface or strip mining is brutal on the environment. My grandparents community sold to strip miners jn the 1970s energy crisis [once enough sell everyone has to because otherwise they will be living in a toxic coal mine.] The farmland became a moonscape and then strangely shaped hills with no trees. [They didnt flatten the hills of waste]. Only thing left is a small country church with a cemetary sitting in a bizaare landscape. It is surreal. This is the required level of reconstitution.

2

u/Liddle_but_big 3d ago

Less valuable than human life though

0

u/Earlyon 4d ago

Clean coal my a..

0

u/Desperate_Law9894 4d ago

It didn't need to be a minute long, 10 seconds was enough.

0

u/BuiltMackTough 4d ago

I'm not sure what you call the wood supporting the shaft (scaffolding, maybe), but that doesn't look like it would be any support to stop a cave in.

0

u/wolfhelp 4d ago

Good job he's working fast otherwise that would take him ages

0

u/Necessary_Weight_603 4d ago

-31 I'm definitely not on the grid.

0

u/a3x-a3x 4d ago

I don’t like my work in office they newer said.
