THE LAKE HOUSE EXPANSION

First showcased at the PlayStation State of Play and then Xbox's Partner Preview, The Lake House (no, not the one with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves) is out NOW!

In this expansion, you play as Kiran Estevez as she visits the research facility based near Cauldron Lake. Set near the beginning of Alan Wake II, Kiran will uncover what horrors await within. Compared to the Night Springs Expansion, players will explore a large facility with a new paint-dripping enemy type, as well as a brand new weapon type. As an extra bonus, players who own the Deluxe Edition can don themselves Alan Wake's original costume from the first game to use on the man himself throughout the campaign.

In order to play the expansion, you must own the "Digital Deluxe" version of the game, which can be purchased outright or upgraded at any time.

Players can access the expansion at any time from the main menu, or can ask Kiran about the events after Return 6: Scratch.

You can find the full details of the expansions over on the official Alan Wake website HERE.

ANNIVERSARY UPDATE

Can you believe it's been one year since the launch of Alan Wake II?! To celebrate, Remedy have also dropped a new patch alongside the newest expansion free for all. The patch comes with some enhancements for Dualsense users as well as some extra tweaks to controls. However the main crux is the Gameplay Assist menu, which contains the following abilities:

  • Quick turn
  • Auto complete QTE
  • Button tapping to single tap
  • Weapon charging with taps
  • Healing items with taps
  • Lightshifter with taps
  • Player invulnerability
  • Player immortality
  • One shot kill
  • Infinite ammo
  • Infinite flashlight batteries

PHYSICAL DELUXE EDITION

Since the launch of Alan Wake II, the game had been a digital release only. For those holding out for a physical release, your wait is finally over as the Physical Deluxe Edition is OUT NOW!

The physical edition comes with the main game, the Night Springs expansion, the Lake House expansion and the Deluxe edition cosmetics. As an extra bonus, you'll also snag yourself a digital copy of Alan Wake Remastered (version is based on the physical copy you purchased). If you already own it, it comes as a code, so give it to a friend perhaps so they too can experience this amazing world.

For those who bought the Collector's Edition from LimitedRun, a notice was sent out a few weeks ago which specified the following:

"Good news! Your game disc will ship ahead of the final Collector's Edition package, which is still in manufacturing. Your game will be shipped the week of October 22nd, and your Collector's Edition contents are still on track to ship in December of this year!"

Edit: I myself am someone who bought this and my physical copy dispatched as of yesterday. It shipped from North Carolina and I live in the UK so it may take time depending on where you live.

Discussion The greatest horror of Alan Wake....

Is never getting to go to Deerfest! Alan spends the entire first game hearing about how great it's gonna be and you can tell he's really excited but instead he gets trapped in the dark place and you just know Alice and Barry went without him. Then after 13 years in the dark place with only his hopes for deerfest to keep him going he finally gets out and gets to go to deerfest for a full five seconds before an angry mob chases him away. I swear if Alan Wake 3 has any ending other than Alan going to deerfest and having a good time I'll lose my mind, the poor guy deserves it.

Discussion The real horror of Alan Wake is that I never get to enjoy Deerfest

All through the first game I'm teased with what a great time deerfest is but does Alan get to attend? No! He gets stuck in the dark place just as deerfest starts. Then after 13 years with nothing but the hope of going to deerfest to sustain him he finally gets to go but only for a few seconds before he gets chased off by an angry mob. It's been long enough and I think Alan deserves to go to deerfest dammit

So, Alan Wake 2's DLLC Largely Explains Quantum Break's Ending, right?

It's multi-world theory, yeah? He saves Beth, but in a different timeline (of which there are many),

Just beat the game

Just beat the game, final draft and all DLC...and all I wanted to say was wow. This game did a fantastic job imo and I think everyone working on this game killed it. I'm sad I finished and now I want to learn more about the lore to this game. Just learned about Control and love how the universe all connects so I'll give that a go but just wanted to say great game.

Discussion I can't state how much I appreciate the fact that Alan (Matthew Porretta) narrates found collectibles.

I just finished playing Quantum Break, while I did enjoy the game I finished it with so many questions unanswered. This is due in part that I read almost none of the collectibles. I realize this is my own fault. But, some of these are insanely long to read, and I just want to play the game.

So thank you Alan for reading the lore to us lazy gamers who don't have the attention span to read walls of text.

Discussion Thinking about Alan's in-universe fandom makes me go insane

This man was a crime thriller writer.

Putting the Casey/Payne thing aside for now, the real world equivalent to Casey would probably be the likes of Jo Nesbo's Harry Hole. Gritty, depressed cops trying to make sense of complex narratives. Arguably the biggest difference between the Casey books and actual modern Scandinavian crime literature is the fan response to them. Both of them gather high praise from critics, but Stieg Larsson sure as shit didn't get interviewed for magazines aimed at teenage girls. Alan did.

And it's just so wild to me because he does not fit the image of someone who irl would be beloved on tumblr at all. While the "complicated bad boy" act was something that celebrities utilized as part of their public persona, the success of it was kinda exclusive to like boys band musicians, or actors. Not writers of hardboiled detective stories 😭😭 Rose's fansite might not actually have won awards for "best fansite ever", but with the way the reception around him is framed, Im certain that micro communities around Wake and Casey formed.

Which makes the lack of a riot over Sudden Stop so weird?? Like if you know anything about fandom history, you probably know that the first instance of modern fandom having an unhinged moment is usually credited to sherlockians harassing and sending death threats to ACD for killing Holmes. And yet everyone is mostly fine with Casey dying in Alan's last regular novel? In a fandom that apparently skews towards parasocial behaviors??

All that to ask, how in the world did we even arrive at officially licensed Alex Casey lunchboxes????

disclaimer: I know this mainly done in order to have Rose be an actual character with contributions. But let me gnaw at the implications of it lol.

Discussion So I just finished Alan Wake 2 and had some questions/comments I wanted to talk through. Spoilers, obviously.

So first off, phenomenal game. I've been a fan since the first back in 2010 and I never could have imagined how the game would expand and become connected with a Remedy-verse that just scratches that "weird shit" itch I love with stuff like Twin Peaks, X-Files, etc. With that said, there are some things I want to clarify and others that I guess I'm kinda confused on. I haven't done a "The Final Draft" playthrough, which I understand has some new stuff, nor have I played The Lake House DLC, so no spoilers on that front, please.

  1. So Casey was actually just a real guy who coincidentally shared the name with Alan's character and also worked in law enforcement? Him being played by Sam Lake/James McCaffrey was just a red herring of sorts?
  2. Alan Wake 1 ended implying that Rose was going to become the new Lady of the Light (which btw, the Dark Presence getting Cynthia made me sad), but I guess this was dropped/retconned? In 2 she's more kooky, parasocial fangirl who was able to help Alan because of his messages he sent. Which I'm still not sure if he actually didn't or if he just doesn't remember doing it.
  3. Tom Zane. This is where I'm most confused. In Alan Wake 1 he was a poet and Barbara was his partner, she drowned and he was tricked into bringing her back and unleashed the Dark Presence. To fix things he wrote himself and Barbara out of existence. Now in 2 he's a filmmaker. He also looks just like Alan, which was also in Control. Was he a filmmaker first in Finland and got into poetry when he came to Bright Falls? I can't really remember his poetry really being talked about in 2, though I'll admit I might have missed a collectible or misread/didn't fully read something in relation to him. Also the segments where we interacted with him were pretty trippy so I might've missed something that was said.

That's all I can think of for now. Can't wait to go through my Final Draft playthrough tonight and witness the story again knowing the twists and turns. :)

Discussion I’ve played Alan wake 2 and loved it. How does it compare to Alan wake 1?

So I have Alan wake remastered from ps plus and was wondering how does the game compare to the second one.

I recently played the second one and loved it. The graphics, gameplay and story were amazing.

Did you prefer the 1st one over the second? How does it compare?

Question is my low gpu usage bad

i tried to limit fps from 100+ to 60 fps which worked and temps also dropped a bit but now gpu usage (rtx 4060 laptop) shows 46% more or less during the gameplay, is this usage bad or good now that its limitized? (aw2)
