Interest in a forum outside of reddit?
Would anyone be interested in a forum outside of reddit?
The classic forum style is a lot nicer to use to find information and discuss specific topics rather than the string of posts from places like reddit and discord.
I was thinking we could have a water section, wastewater section, equipment section with sub categories for different things, education section, etc. And of course I'm open to other ideas as well.
I just wanted to throw some feelers out there because this would cost me some money and I don't want to pay for it for no reason. If it is popular enough here I wouldn't mind expanding it and advertising it in industry magazines. Hopefully we could get a reasonably large user base and create an actual online presence where operators, mechanics, lab, and engineers can have some great discussions about our industry.
Edit: Seems like we have a bit of interest! I'll start getting things set up and we'll see where it goes.

Anyone done their courses for their D2 through sac state?
How does it work? Do I just buy the water distribution course, complete the 90 hours and quizzes and then I’m able to take the D2 exam once Sac State sends me my certificate of completion?

User Flair
Any interest in enabling User Flair?
It may be helpful if users could add flair pertaining to state, grade level, work group, etc.

Help with level 1 Certification
Does anybody have any recommendations for things to study up on for level 1 certification exams? I live in Alberta Canada and I've got my d&c tests this week and I'm stressing a bit about what to study. I've talked to a few operators and fellow test takers, and so far I've studied up on, pumps (mainly centrifugal), packing, mechanical seals, and piping, I've done a quick brush over on valves and math for distribution. For collection I've heard a lot of it is overlapped so not much has been done on that part but I've looked at type of sewer systems and sewer properties and I intend to look at pigs and scrapers and such.
Is there any other things I should look at or other things I should heavily focus on?

King County WA interview questions
So King County WA is holding the first round of interviews next week. The email mentioned a General Knowledge Exam, Mechanical Aptitude Exam, and three interview questions. Does anyone have an idea what kind of interview questions they might ask?

Looking for technicians/operators to talk to
Hey, all
I've become a lot more curious about the job and applied for a job in my county. I have a few questions for whoever is willing to answer them.
1) Any tips on getting into the industry?
2) What's your day-to-day like?
3) What was your starting pay and how long did it take you to reach Level 2, Level 3, etc?
4) What's your location?

What did you study?
Here in Mexico they only ask for a high school diploma to be an operator, but I’m curious what are the requirements outside Mexico. Also, I add a picture of a filter for the carbon filter.

Do plant operators who get the class 2 end up stopping or keep going back to the books to continue learning wastewater? In my state not many operators have licenses but been working like 20+ years in the field

Identification for curiosity sake
I am in the south west mountain desert. Every winter, this manhole starts growing a white substance out of the manhole center hole, I've asked around my place of work and no one knows or shows interest.
The past two days we've had snowfall which has moistened the substance and caused it to turn a greenish tint . Does anyone know what this might be?

Becoming a Bay Area Wastewater Operator Within 60 Days: Seeking Advice
Hey Reddit,
I’m working towards landing an entry-level Wastewater Treatment Operator-in-Training (OIT) position in the Bay Area and wanted to get some feedback on whether this goal is realistic.
Currently, I’m taking an Alison course on Wastewater Treatment (it doesn't provide CEUs, but I'm doing it to gain extra knowledge and improve my resume).
Next, I plan to dive into the Sacramento Wastewater Course, with the aim of enrolling and taking the exam soon after.
I’ve been actively applying for jobs, but I haven’t had much luck with interviews so far. I’m thinking the lack of certifications could be holding me back, but I’m eager to get started in the field as soon as possible.
Does anyone here have experience with this process in the Bay Area? Any advice or insights on improving my chances of landing an OIT position would be greatly appreciated!

Is printing a digital copy of an official transcript acceptable for certification? (californium Drinking Water Cert.)
"You must attach legible photocopies of OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS or CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION"
The digital copy is official and states as much on the document, but there is a watermark across the middle which reads "copy of transcript". My confusion is because technically its not a photocopy and I'm not sure how pedantic the instructions are.
I emailed the waterboard for clarification and called the office, but no response yet. Id rather not wait to order a physical transcript from the school due to the processing time.
Thanks in advance!

Ohio ABC class 2
Taking my class 2 next week any hints or extra quiz to look over. From what I’ve been told, half the test my deal with everyday, and the other half I just know the basics.

California W3 Study Guide
What do the California operators recommend for study material/guides or courses for the wastewater 3. I currently have my W2 but I failed the 3 last time I took it.

Ontario resident, looking for clarification on CEUs
Taking an enviromental technician course in march, worth 90 CEUs according to the ontario wastewater website which is enough for me to get my class 3 when i have enough years of experience(planning to write my OiT and take the 8 month coop at a wastewater plant at the end of course), my question is how long do those CEUs stay valid after graduation? Like how fast would i have to write my class 3 exam for those CEUs to be valid? 3 years? 4 years? And how easy would it be to get 90 CEUs while already working full time?

AWWA regional conference as a student attendee?
When my regional conference comes around later this spring, I'll be at the end of my first year of a Water/Wastewater treatment program. I am wondering if it would be worth my while to attend the conference. Do attendees at these events have any interest in meeting and talking with students? I am not sure what job I want to go for when I'm done with my education and would love to meet people in the industry to hear about what they do, where, and what they like and dislike about it. I think a lot of the presentations sound very interesting as well.
Since I am a student, I'd be traveling on my own dime and would be away from home for a few days. What advice or insight can you offer?

Cleaning Disc Filters
I'm currently working on optimizing our wastewater treatment process and have some questions regarding the maintenance of disc filters. We've noticed that our filter panels tend to get fouled quickly, reducing efficiency and throughput.
I'd love to hear from the community:
What cleaning process do you follow for your disc filters when the panels become fouled?
Do you use manual cleaning, or do you have an automatic backwash system in place?
What cleaning agents or methods do you find most effective for removing different types of fouling?
How often do you clean your disc filters? Is it based on a time schedule, or do you monitor pressure drop or another indicator?
Have you tried any innovative or less common methods that have proven effective?
Thanks for your help.

Color Vision Requirements in Operations.
Hello- I wanted to get some firsthand information on operator’s requirements on color vision. I’ve seen some recent job posting list full color vision as a requirement and some not list it at all.
• What color vision test was given to you at time of hire. Do you also take one with your state water board when getting your certification?
• Can you elaborate on your daily operator duties that would entail needing full color vision-running lab samples or checking conditions etc.
• Do you possibly know any current operators that are colorblind or have some form of color deficiencies?
Disclaimer- I’m currently an operator in a different industry that had to pass a vision test(wasn’t able to pass the Ishihara Test plates with the color bubbles showing numbers. I was able to pass a practical test needing to distinguish between various color samples.) I currently also run test samples on water with color variations on results reading a vial color chart for concentration levels with no problem at all. I have board console experience and never had any issues with seeing different alarm colors or alerts.

Sourcing a large repair band
We have a 30 inch concrete asbestos pipe that runs over land and crosses a creek. It was recently damaged by a fallen tree. It knocked a hole in the top of it. It's gravity flow line so no real pressure to consider.
We use alot of ford repair bands for water main repairs . They are extremely robust and expensive 5k.
Anyone have recommendations on fix

Deer At The Plant
How often do you guys/gals see deer around your plant? Right, I’m sure it’s common. But riddle me this: how come when I see them, they look me in the eye and take a crap? I’m not kidding. This is the 3rd time in about 4 months. I have video but here’s a still shot. What’s that all about? I sort of feel dirty.
