Best season finale in my history of watching TV, in my opinion.

I’m so jealous of people who haven’t watched it.

Seriously. I was an early fan and recently got a buddy to watch it. He just finished and I’m jealous he’s only had to wait one month for season two when a lot of us have been waiting for 3 years

Hahaha oh man, your friend played it perfectly.

Can confirm: I finished season 1 last night for the first time and I couldn’t breathe properly. My heart was racing!!

I have a video of my friends watching the last three minutes of the finale and it’s one of my favourite things I’ve ever recorded.

I just rewatched season 1 and my last thought was that there's no easy way of un-ringing that bell! I can't wait to see how they deal with the mess that's going to result from the events of the last episode.

To me it’s second only to Westworld’s

It's still the Six Feet Under series finale for me, but no doubt this was a 10/10 banger finale - just the right mix of giving us information while keeping us on the hook for next season

It is the best thing that Apple’s ever produced. Ben Stiller is crushing it and proving himself to be formidable. Have you seen Escape at Dannemora? It’s brilliant.

Never heard of that but will look it up. I only have Apple TV+ though as I keep my streaming subs to a minimum

Apple has an Emmy-winning narrative on its hands. Great reviews from critics for a truly original series, at a time when everything is IP in Hollywood. A good campaign and great numbers released by Apple's PR could create a winner.

Imagine if Your Friends & Neighbors really is as great as Apple executives think and they get three or four strong shows in the drama slots (Severance, Slow Horses, Presumed Innocent and Your Friends & Neighbors). They have Shrinking and maybe Bad Monkey for comedy. It depends on the campaign. The Studio could be strong and maybe Government Cheese.

Some people thought it was strange that Apple premiered 4 episodes of Government Cheese at once, which could suggest a lack of confidence in the show. But coincidentally or not, this decision leads the show to end right on the final date of Emmy eligibility. For limited series, only Disclaimer for now. We'll see how Dope Thief does.

They have a lot more strong shows in the drama category, though.

I mean, Pachinko is a downright masterpiece and they haven’t promoted it at all. For All Mankind is consistently praised by the critics and beloved enough to be one of the 2 only Apple shows to get a spinoff. Drops of God is also critically acclaimed, and so was Dark Matter.

They don’t lack strong shows. They lack shows that make it into the pop culture and become water cooler talks. Apart from Ted Lasso, it feels like Severance could really become just that. I’ve seen more and more medium to big YouTube reactors watch season 1 recently. Channels like Blind Wave have started reacting to it, which I never thought they would.

You're right. Shows need buzz, and Apple still refuses to do that. Ted Lasso and Severance grew organically, but that's not as common. Most of the time the buzz is literally paid for and artificially built. They need to learn from HBO's PR machine.

What was For All Mankinds spin-off?

5

u/smithnugget 2d ago

Star City. It's not out yet but it's going to be from Soviet perspective.

Pachinko should have all the accolades Shogun is getting right now, both shows have Anna Sawai too. It’s so annoying they have so much potential.

Severance is absolutely brilliant but probably too high concept for the predictable voters. I wish they would reward them too.

u/populares420 2d ago

no way. shogun blows pachinko the fuck out of the water

Agree to disagree

Part of the problem is that AppleTV confuses people. I've seen it with my own family.

  1. A lot of people think you have to have an Apple device to use AppleTV. No really.
  2. Apple device users often get it free when they get a new phone or other Apple device. So they don't pay for it and don't have a subscription. So they don't watch it. People watch the services they see on their bank statement. When the trial ends that's it.
  3. A lot of Android users hate Apple anything. Android users make up almost half of the US.

Apple would have more success as a content producer that sold their shows under their brand to another streamer like Disney.

Between this, Silo and For All Mankind, Apple have absolutely cooked to be honest

1

u/MicMustard 1d ago

Foundation, Ted Lasso, and Shrinking as well

1

u/userlivewire 6h ago

It's a shame most people have never even heard of AppleTV.

1

u/moviesdude 2d ago

IMO For all Mankind has dipped in quality a bit, but still entertaining.

1

u/Crosgaard 1d ago

Yeah, season 3 was a big step down, though 4 was better… still quite far from season 1 or 2 level though

1

u/moviesdude 1d ago

Yeah seasons 1/2 were brilliant in my opinion. Season 3 felt like they changed writers or something.

Season 4 was a step in the right direction, but you could tell that their budget was lowered, at least IMO.

5

u/Plane-Tie6392 2d ago

Nice! Anybody know how many episodes the critics got?

2

u/SeriousButton6263 2d ago

In another Reddit thread, the answer I saw was all 10 episodes

2

u/Plane-Tie6392 2d ago

Thanks. I saw that too after I posted but Reddit has been weird for me recently on Firefox mobile so I can’t really edit unfortunately.

Just to be clear SEASON 2 is crushing it also.

2

u/tobefirst 2d ago

Just release it already so I can watch it!!!

I want to like it. I did a lot when season 1 came out. But I’ve also felt like Apple TV plus has gotten kind… cash grabby? As in every show is just there to sell another season? Servant, silo and Ted lasso dropped off hard after strong starts

I really hope severance doesn’t follow those and it actually begins to answer the questions instead of diving into other stuff

6

u/BananaJoe1985 2d ago

TV shows with multiple season, what a concept.

0

u/ToastBalancer 2d ago

I don’t know what that has to do with my original point

2

u/outworlder 1d ago

How did Silo drop off?

1

u/ToastBalancer 1d ago

Got so slow and the mystery wasn’t as enticing to keep us engaged. I think season 2 would benefit so much from faster pace. I can’t help but feel like they are trying to stretch out 3 episodes into 10 to make it to another season

1

u/Philoctetes23 1d ago

The issue with season 2 is that there are so many character threads currently going on which is ruining the pace but Lukas' journey, Juliette, and the story of Silo 17 is enough enticing mystery for me at least. I'm burning to find out what happened with Solo and his role/experience during Silo 17's clusterfuck.

I feel the same. After finishing Bad Sisters, Black Bird, Dark Matter, Bad Monkey and others I tried to get into other shows. I’ve tried really hard to watch Severance, Slow Horses and Silo. Guess not for me

However. NOT AN AD. I use JustWatch. Which lets you connect all your services and track them. Then see recommended shows to watch.

I’ve been a TVPlus fan for years but sometimes it feels a bit lascklustler but it’s a new season and this gives me hope.
