Spam filter is being too aggressive. Post mods if your post doesn't show when you are logged out / in incognito mode.
Hello everyone,
Lately I've had to manually unspam a lot of totally legitimate posts. The Reddit spam system is not totally under the control of the moderators so I can't fathom why it's blocking allowed content or how to modify its sensitivity. If you posted a topic you think is fine, and it's not showing when you are logged off or in an incognito window, please message the moderators to inquire what may be the problem.
Sorry for any inconvenience,
—G.

Found these swords in my loft.
galleryI was up in my loft and came across these laying in the insulation.
I don't know anything about swords. They're not sharp at all, so I wondered if they're a prop or just ornamental?

Elven Sword Project Surprise Patch Update
gallerySo I thought my last post about my personally customized LotR elvish longsword "Gurthant" was the final update and had considered the project complete.
...But then the Jesse Belsky released new hilt fittings on the printed armory and I saw one that demanded I get it for this sword. It just fit the theme better and looked pretty. So now the sword is complete (for real this time) and I wanted to show off the new guard a bit. This is the 'warden guard' if you want to grab your own from his website.

Going through my parents storage, found my childhood sword. Even better- if you added a section it could be a spear.

Identification Lebanese family heirloom
galleryPasses on to me by a close mentor - I’m also of Arab descent (through not Lebanese), and she wanted it to go to someone who at least speaks a little of the language. The family were, I believe, Maronite Arabs. I can’t read the script, but it goes all up and down one side. Anyone able to tell me anything about swords of this sort?

Hypothetical: what style of sword would be the least useless sidearm in 21st century warfare?
Title. I know that swords are functionally obsolete in 21st century warfare, but hypothetically speaking: what style of sword would be the best suited for modern battlefield use?

Thoughts on the Shamshir?
galleryThe iconic Shamshir! The famous Persian sword! This is one of many descendants of the Turco-Mongol saber, influenced by sabers used by Seljuk Khanate and the Mongols, taking shape during the 16th century. Its name meaning “Lion fang” in Persian.
A notable feature of the Shamishir is its radical curved blade which made it effective at slashing but not very great at thrusting.

Some assistance IDing a sword
Hi all!
Any idea on the cypher on the hilt of this sword? There are some initials from the officer who owned on the sword but I cannot find any info about them from national archives.
Don't think it's Victoria. Perhaps Edward VII?
No info on providence really, it's a Holt and Son produced sword, company dissolved in 1911 so no sale ledger info.
Blade is generally in good condition with a small pitted spot. On sale for 400 pound.

Custom Scabbards
galleryHello fellow sword enthusiasts! My name is Andy and I’m an avid sword collector and scabbard maker. I’m new to Reddit but very active on FB, IG, and the Sword Buyer’s Guide forum. If you’re active in those communities then you may already know me and may have already seen my scabbard work, but if not, here are a handful of my favorite pieces that I completed this past year.
By day, I’m a middle school art teacher and live on a working cattle farm, so I try to limit myself to 2-3 scabbard commissions a month, and I’m currently booked through March. But if you’re looking to have a custom scabbard made, feel free to shoot me a message!

Laws about bladed weapons
Hi, guys!
Just out of curiosity, what are the laws about blades on other countries?
I'm Russian, and last year I got my second proper sword. The website I've ordered it from listed it as a Oakeshott Type XV. The one that has a wide cross-guard and a nice triangle-shaped blade. A bit simplistic, but I love it so much! But since I live in Russia, the sword was forged with rounded tip and blade, so by the law it's not a weapon but an overpriced toy
Honestly, to me that's a good thing. But I can't help but to wonder. YouTube is full of videos of cut testing different weapons, so I assume the laws are not so restricting as in Russia. So... What are they? What are the legal restrictions around the globe about forging swords? Namely what can or cannot you forge?

Perhaps a strange question: Does anyone know where I could commission a custom wallhanger in Europe?
Hoping to avoid being flamed for this, but I'd like to have a custom made sword that's 100% just for decoration. I know I could commission a functional custom sword, but I'd hope to keep it a lot cheaper by going for a stainless steel wallhanger or similar.
