Oh, the state of BARNEGAT makes me so sad. Seeing her engine rooms flooded and taking on water just kills me.

I've worked on CHESAPEAKE in Baltimore, a slightly more recent design lightship, and they're such great boats. To see BARNEGAT mouldering away is such a damned heartbreak. They didn't have the glitz and glamor of their warship cousins, but these boats played a crucial role in American history, especially during the 1800's and early-to-mid 1900s, helping incoming merchants and immigrant ships find their way along the coasts.
