That ship is a Starfleet legend, ensign. And you will treat it with the respect it is due.

General:
- We have a little surprise for all of you PC Captains: A Earth Spacedock Update!
- Updated the exterior, System Space, model of ESD.
- The docking bay has been replaced with something that matches the exterior model.
- Updated minor parts of the interior of ESD.
- For more information: https://www.playstartrekonline.com/en/news/article/11572869
Known Issues:
- Currently the profanity filter is flagging many more words then intended as including profanity. This only applies to renaming a ship, existing ships will not have their names accidentally flagged.

Was not expecting the ESD revamp until the Anniversary update, tbh. Even with it being shown off on Mike's stream the other day.

u/Luxsul 15h ago
Probably added bc of Nicks final week so he can see his work before leaving.

Wait, Nick's leaving!? How did I miss that news? That makes me so sad, he's amazing and I absolutely love his work and his passion for what he does.

It was announced on Mike's stream on Monday, where Nick was showing off the new ESD model.

u/BentusFr 12h ago
He announced it on Linkedin last weekend, then made the news 'public' at the end of Kael's stream the next day.

Does this mean loading into Sol System will go from 1 minute to 5 minutes?

That's one fat patch.

You better leave the bottle...

IIRC when it first hit Tribble it was around 5 Gb.
because there's a little bit more than the Sol remaster

Very clever, fill the lull in gameplay between Christmas and the anni with the brand new ESD model nobody was expecting until the anni. Nice move, that should get some bums on seats this weekend :)

u/Drsamquantum 12h ago
Or they added the new ESD because Nick is leaving this week.

Could be, but this isn't the first time DECA have done something clever. The Typhoon giveaway was another good one that got a lot of older players coming back to play. Everytime DECA do something clever and someone points it out, there'll be another someone along soon enough to suggest it might be an accident, or incidental, or anything that doesn't acknowledge that DECA might actually know what they're doing with this game. I guess time will tell :)

u/Vulcorian Engineer and Cruiser Parity! 9h ago
I don't mean to dismiss your point but is it accurate to attribute these things to DECA, when as far as I understand it Cryptic are still the ones "in charge".
There has been no formal acknowledgment that the transfer from Cryptic to DECA is complete yet. There are no DECA logos anywhere while Cryptic's remain. All text I've seen in game and on the website refer to Cryptic as the copyright holders, etc.

Yeah, and we've been told there are "legal issues" with the transfer, and until those are resolved we're unlikely to get more of an explanation that that. But yes, DECA are pretty much running things now, and the new team are at the end of their training year.
Introducing the new space dock before the anni was clever, although breaking the game in the process was certainly an oopsie they're wishing hadn't happened.

The profanity filter balked at “snake” and “rat” a couple days ago. I was naming that character’s ships after the Chinese Zodiac 🤦🏼♀️

u/willtrekkie91 4h ago
Yeah, the problem with snake first came up during a past summer event. When you do the emote snake it gets censored in the chatbox. I am glad that they are working on fixing the anomalies of the profanity filter.

Just like Craptic to totally fuck up a major release.
JFC! Do they even bother to do any testing prior to release?!?!

TBH, I hate that they went to the Picard ESD. Picard screwed STO as being even soft canon. why the hell are they honoring that POS series?

Something is either canon, or it isn't. There is no "soft canon". "Picard" didn't screw over STO, in fact it honoured it buy using several of its ship designs in the show. That's an honour no other Trek video game can claim.

Was also not expecting to see that EVERY SINGLE ONE OF MY CHARACTERS's traits have been completely blanked out after this patch.
