Is there a batter protection than a shield like this? Discussion

Generally speaking, the best shields don’t have x4 resistance mods. Its best to use x4 cap and get to or near 75% resistance without mods. Typically that’s a far stronger setup then stacking into resistance mods.
Personally, I tend to skip resilient shields and go Covariant with x5 Cap mod so what little damage does bleed though will be healed by passive hull healing so you can overall tank more damage.
Personally I am a fan of Hyper-Capacitor Shield Array with x5 Cap mods when shield tanking and I don't need a set bonus.
EDIT: https://stowiki.net/wiki/Hyper-Capacitor_Shield_Array though there is certainly an argument for picking a shield based on the set bonus. Like the x2 Disc set with 1 part shield. That could be the strongest tanking combo?

Interesting. I just saw in Borg Red Alert how single ships shred Assimilators in less than 10 seconds sometimes, and I die if I go against them alone. I'm scared to sacrifice console space for shield modifiers

It depends on the overall build. With Endavours shield resistance, EPtS running with decent shield power and skill points in shields you can get pretty close to 70% resistance without any consoles or shield resistance mods. If needed The Voth Power Subcore alone gives 30% shield resistance which is usually enough to hit that 75% cap which can only go over with bonus resistance.
There are lots of other options as well like running RSPx with the Fabrication Doff that extends RSP. Or if you use energy builds the https://stowiki.net/wiki/Enhanced_Weapon_Systems_Efficiency_Set#Console_-_Universal_-_Shield_Absorptive_Frequency_Generator console is I think the strongest shield heal in game.
EDIT or you can use the Tactical Colony Consoles to keep shields up.

Or using the sun AS the shield! 😂

So, what kind of batter are we talking about here? Tempura? Beer Batter? Panko? Or are you thinking of a dessert batter like funnel cake?
All I know is that you're gonna need a LOT of it to coat a whole starship.

Shields don't generally matter a huge amount in STO, they take too long to recharge and hull healing is faaaar faster. Design oversight that the community has been complaining about for at least a decade. There are a few contenders for "best shield", but I would recommend you the Tilly shield from tier 5 of the Discovery reputation as it gives you a 10% damage buff against shields, especially when paired with the warp core from that same rep. This will give you an additional set bonus of +120% hull Regen which makes you immediately very hard to kill. For reference, the classic Core setup is Disco shield and warp core, competitive engines (there are several, choose the one with the bonus triggering off weapon firing mode activation - Prevailing I think, not next to PC right now), and the colony deflector. You might just decide to run all 4 pieces from the Disco set for massive hull bonuses and first-time hit damage bonus, really useful for tanks. GLHF LLAP 🖖

Yes there's a batter shieldÂ
Disco rep shield (crit buff +huge damage resistance when paired with the disco rep deflector)
Crystalline shield from a disco episode (healing buff)
Kitimor alliance shield (damage buff + increased AP damage)

On my quest for the best shields, I ended up having a shield for every weapon type and upgrade it as much as possible. I aspire to have a shield with 5x[-20% of weapon type] in my inventory. They are all resilient shields, so let through 5% instead of 10%. But with the 5x -20% modifier, I'd reduce the incoming damage of the 5% going through by 67.232%.
Is there a way to have a better shield than this?

This shield: https://stowiki.net/wiki/Khitomer_Alliance_Defender%27s_Gear#Khitomer_Alliance_Regenerative_Shield_Array probably does more damage than your whole ship.
10 seconds is a long time to kill an assimilator in a Red Alert. Red Alerts are some of the easiest content in the game. Read up on ship builds and start your journey to high performance!
