The Mudd's Bundle they should have given us - Lower Decks Discussion

The new Mudd's Bundle that's coming out on Thursday is according to most players here a real let down. The bundle they probably should have released instead was a Lower Decks theme. The three ships are:

California

Parliament

Sh'vhal

All 3 are old enough ships for a Mudd's Bundle and since the show just wrapped up it would sell well right now. Also, the bundle wouldn't be a heavly dps weighted one.

I could do with a Picard bundle.

Excelsior II

Connie III

Shrike

Duderstadt

World Razor

Sagan

Pick 3! Or buy all 6!

World Razor would sell like hotcakes. That ship is considered one of the best damage dealing vessels in the game.

It’ll likely be a 3/3 split - more money that way. 😛

But they also tend to do only 3. Once in a while 4

Here’s hoping we get a legendary bundle with the Cali and Cerritos variants seen in the series finale

Mirror Cerritos! Look at all these weapons!

I'm still banking on the Farragut going into one. No body goes for that ship

-pets Farragut- he didn't mean it, sweetie - no no no no no...

Though, be fair, I'm an old fuck - I got the Farragut because it was, practically speaking, a legally distinct Ptolemy class xD

TIL this ship was in the game. I had no idea. I’d fly it haahha

This is just a theory but I think there are some high expectations or anticipation for the 15th anniversary bundle that will likely come out fairly soon so maybe they are reasoning that if they put out a really hot mudds bundle so close to the 15th anniversary bundle that maybe they will take away sales from each other or perhaps they want it in a different financial quarter to spread out the sales. I could be wrong or just over thinking it

this might be on the mark as we have the Ark Royal as the headliner for this bundle so i anticipate it being a big seller

Wouldn't it be the other way around? If they put two really good bundles back to back it would "encourage" people to pay money for zen, since they'd have spent on the previous Mudd's bundle with a proper chase option so would need more for the anniversary bundle, and since they'd never be able to get the zen from the DilEx in time it wouldn't be an option that way so spending actual money would be the only way.

I would buy that combo in a heartbeat! Since we haven't gotten any real T6 Vulcan ships (I don't count the Disco ship since it's really a souped up shuttle), I would use the Sh'Vhal on my multiple Vulcan characters.

I still maintain they should do a Vulcan 3 pack of ships from Enterprise - A T6 version of the D'kyr Science Vessel, and introducing the Suurok and Vahklas classes as a Cruiser-like and Escort-like vessel respectively. And for premium ships, put the T'plana Hath or the 3 ringed future design in the Lockbox/Promo packs.

As a dude who wont get this bundle but WOULD have grabbed the Sh'Vhal or maybe the Parliament (the Cali was my first pimi ship and still my fave).

I'd have dropped the cash on the one you suggest.

Sweetie, those ships are way too new (not to mention interesting) to get a bundle

u/noahssnark 1d ago

It wouldn't be the newest set of ships in a Mudd's. Sol Defense had ships as new as the Saturn from Dec 7, 2021 and it came out in June 20, 2024, 926 days later. The newest ship in the LD list is the Sh'vhal from June 7, 2022, and that's 947 days ago from today. In fact, the average age of the ships in Sol Defense at release is smaller than the average age of the LD ships: the UEDF was 948 days old and the Mars was 1032 days old, while the California is 975 days old and the Parliament 1213 days old as of today.

With how the LD finale went I think the Cali will get a legendary version with an STO style skin or one of the other ones we saw.

Definitely going to get a LD mudd bundle one day but it'll probably be Parliament, Sh'vhal, and Texas.

Sweetie, those ships are way too new (not to mention interesting) to get a bundle

yeah probably another few years before they crack the Mudds.

u/TomsServoo 1d ago

Agreed, I’m still wondering what the deal is with this new one. It’s not there nor is the previous one they normally keep around until a newer one arrives. I haven’t seen any official word.

Recheck the blog, it's delayed until tomorrow.

A lot of it has to do with the arbitrary number of 2 years before they put stuff up for zen which is annoying. There has to be better stat tracking available than that to know that after 6 months it's no longer selling well enough in just the box anymore to sell it in a bundle.

u/Heavensrun These are the threads that bind us...all of us...to each other. 22h ago

I'd argue the Mudd's Bundle is perfect.

Think about it, if they release a Mudds bundle with nothing but ships nobody wants in it, that means that's three fewer ships that they can tack on to a later bundle with something desirable in it. Which means the bundle you WANT to buy has better odds of being a better value.

3

u/Riablo01 22h ago

Agree with the OP. With the recent Lower Decks series finale, it would have been the perfect time to sell a Lower Decks bundle. The hardcore fans already own the Lower Decks ships for a number of years. The bundle would just be selling them to a wider audience.

Agreed.

2

u/Quxel 10h ago

I wish it was that.

3

u/Kaisernick27 1d ago

Honestly I don't get the appeal of spending so much for these none of them feel worth it imo.

3

u/Melcoolie6701 1d ago

You see people always claim it's a let down but then they love the ships anyway. I know unpopular opinion but that's what I've heard

2

u/Farscape55 1d ago

Problem there is the California is too popular

It’s not really an age thing, it’s whether they are still making a bunch of money off keys spent on getting it

That’s why it took forever to get the universe and atlas in one

Might be able to get away with putting the Texas class in there

I could buy the California being turned into a Legendary bundle, much like what happened to the Inquiry.

Heck! They can bundle it with a Bird of Prey, which could then add the special one seen in the series finale into the game.

7

u/GuyAugustus 1d ago

I could buy the California being turned into a Legendary bundle, much like what happened to the Inquiry.

That is not going to happen because the Inquiry was build to share the Avenger parts and so was already part of the Avenger lineage.

Rules for Legendary ships is they must have a line, the only time they didnt apply this rule was the 10th Anniversary Pack but that was a exception being the first Legendary ships and they were all Hero ships and even then the only one that didnt fit that rule was the Konnie, even the NX had the old T1 NX to fall back into.

I am not going to say they will never do it however trying to use the Inquiry as evidence is ignoring the name is "Legendary Avenger", no ship accepts the California class parts thus no ship can be made Legendary and use the California costume unless they directly sell the California as a C-Store ships and here comes the rub ...

Why would they do that when they make you pay more for a single character unlock?

This is the reality of things, the reason why so much Lower Decks stuff is because people keep buying it and thus is much easier to sell at a premium so there is no reason for then to do that because all you just said is "take my money" and this exactly WHY they wont because they already made a sale, its just a question of you paying then what they want.

4

u/Farscape55 1d ago

The inquiry is an odd case, the ship itself is actually supposed to be roughly sovereign sized but that info wasn’t available when they made the ship for STO so they stuck it on the avenger/arbiter skeleton which later gave them enough skins/consoles to justify a legendary, and while still popular I suspect the inquiry had fallen off in popularity a lot due to it having previously appeared in the Lobi store and meta marching on

The California is a unique skeleton, so it doesn’t have a bunch of options to roll into a legendary, it’s not completely unprecedented for that to happen, the NX for example, though that had 2 IIRC not just a single skin. And lower decks having just ended it’s still enough in the forefront of Star Trek consciousness that I would guess it’s still a big driver of gamble box openings

u/Ashendal Time is the fire in which we burn. 1d ago

The Texas class is one of the few ships I'd actually want on more than one character due to the trait and console working for various builds.
