Those are safety reflector strips, so at night you don't get run over by a shuttle.

But seriously, it's a bit annoying.

The hilarious part is: There's honestly a valid use for reflective bands in a low-light emergency situation, so that's not even an invalid take... But I don't want to have to incorporate that, haha - especially given it happens on ALL colors. EVEN BLACK.

That's 25th century technology for you: functional BLACK reflector strips. In a sense the opposite of Vanta black.

The Vulcan Science Directorate has determined that black reflectors are not physically possible.

Eh, what do they know?

I was honestly really hoping the lower decks live action uniforms would have reflective white stripes. It even makes sense.
Sadly I was left disappointed.

I'm not sure to tag, but maybe one of y'all knows better?

The Fleet Odyssey uniform is my all time favorite in the game for obvious reasons - so I was wondering if anyone here knew about this issue and who to tag about it, but the bands in the shade don't really... get effected, by light? It's really really really bad looking and ruins the uniform for me, sadly.

(I'll have a guide on this uniform soon, to those who like it, don't you worry.)

I just wanna' get back to wearing my favorite garb is all.

You mean the high visibility stripes?

2

u/KCDodger Admiral K'Trasi 20d ago

That's how it looks, but it's 100% not intentional. I mean why on earth would the dress uniform have reflective department stripes? (This happens on all colors.)

You’re still wearing it in space, and starfleet ships are about as reliable as a Pinto maintained on a budget of stale Fritos

Odds of having a power outage/emergency while wearing it are about 50/50

Sure yeah. I just specifically don't like how this material interacts with shadows, because I'm absolutely certain it's not like, intentional, for it to basically glow.

I see you purchased the 12th anniversary bundle.

Anyway, happy for you - though, going for a really specific look on mine that this issue gets in the way of.

u/TheOneSilver 20d ago

Well, regardless of the glow in the dark white, its a really good look you’ve got

Thank you. I will be making a uniform guide for it soon. It's my nearest and dearest look.

I'm pretty sure it's meant to do that...

I just kinda roll with it, i suppose!

Looks good! Talked with Thomas about it, it might not be intended. Suppose we'll see.

Even star fleet has a pt belt

TIL There's a Fleet version of the Oddy uniform.

5

u/KCDodger Admiral K'Trasi 20d ago

Oh yeah it's beautiful. There's a BDU/Combat suit version too called "Excursion". Highly recommend it. You can get both at the fleet starbase.

I'd be more worried about the rick james hair...

1

u/KCDodger Admiral K'Trasi 20d ago

It's the Samuel Clemens hair.

Well, it's kinda hard to tell there, Capt. Low Res of the USS 320x240

Love the second picture… I was wondering what that uniform looks like in the dark. 😂

1

u/IMTrick 20d ago

At the risk of sounding like a jerk, I'm not sure if white being more reflective than black or dark red is an unintended consequence.

3

It definitely is. The trim on the Odyssey Dress uniform doesn't react to ambient lighting, and it's been that way forever. It looks terrible.

3

u/KCDodger Admiral K'Trasi 20d ago

Oh thank you. I really want this fixed too, it's too damned snazzy to leave it in such a poor state y'know?

1

u/KCDodger Admiral K'Trasi 20d ago

I knew white was the wrong color to show this with. This happens with all colors.

1

u/Ill_Doughnut1537 20d ago

Klingons love it, cuz once they knock out a ships power they can just beam aboard and go for the shiny bits. Qapla!

1

u/KCDodger Admiral K'Trasi 20d ago

Pfft. Genuinely hilarious.

1

u/Ill_Doughnut1537 20d ago

Seriously the Odyssey uniforms need a big rework to make the materials better. I can't stand how old the material looks. When u compare it to any of the new uniforms there's a big difference. It's the textures for me that throws it off.

2

u/KCDodger Admiral K'Trasi 20d ago

Regular oddy stuff looks really really good IMO. But it could use a small rework maybe.

0

u/Ill_Doughnut1537 20d ago

Yeah I'm not saying change it, just upgrade it so the colors are crisp n sharp like all the new uniforms. Lower decks, Picard, and the Disco's are all fine examples of jobs well done with uni's. 🖖

u/KCDodger Admiral K'Trasi 20d ago

OH now THAT'D be nice yeah. They'd also have to release a new uniform guide too tbh.
