The Lower Decks SNW crossover made the list.

I think the DS9/TOS crossover with the tribbles was weirder if you can count that

I just watched this and I’ll give you weird. But it’s also a great episode in its own right AND the vfx holding up THIS well 30 years later is insane. I get it’s only in SD but still.

The fact that that episode is basically the half point between TOS and today is mind blowing.

I’ve heard a hilarious suggestion that for the next big anniversary, the current Star Trek should go back in time to that as well—having to avoid both the TOS crew, and the DS9 crew—would’ve been easier todo in animation, but I love the idea that they would keep on doing this (like for the next big anniversary afterwards, a new crew has to avoid the TOS, DS9 and previous show’s crew).

Read the article and was surprised that the Scooby-Doo/Supernatural crossover didn’t make the list.

Shut up about the grappler, nobody likes grapplers.

“since Lower Decks is geared at a slightly older audience than Strange New Worlds“
Interesting. I didn’t know the LD focus demo was older than SNW. I guess if they’re aware of the average age of the majority of today’s Trekkies (I’d say 35-45, maybe 45-65 the second largest demographic and 25-35 the least) then I guess SNW would be focused more towards the 25-35 demographic?

Kind of need to have watched a lot of trek to get all the references. My first watch I hadn't seen much, just bits of TNG and voy since my dad watched it growing up. After binge watching the first two seasons of LD I started watching the rest of trek and on rewatch it was even better knowing what they were talking about.

Fuck. Growing up. How old is your dad?

u/GotenRocko 13h ago
Sorry, when I was growing up my dad watched TNG and voy, so I would catch some episodes here and there.

I came here to react about that line as well. No deny I am an old head now but my GF who is getting into Star Trek likes them both. We turned our brains off and watched Discovery but she as an entry level fan organically made some of the same criticisms as old fans. I am jonesin for some more SNW.

Same actually the girl I’m with started with DISCO early this year so I introduced SNW and I always gave TNG on when I can’t sleep, and she’s explained episodes she’s watched while I was sleeping where I go, “oh yeah that was…blah blah”

I actually wonder if its just a typo in the article. I don't think they are drawing on any specific behind-the-scenes knowledge, and the generic assumption would probably be that LD skews younger...

While it’s not actually a crossover, the Rock on Voyager was weird.

And George Costanza.

Yes, but thinking about it I could totally see Jason Alexander being a recurring character actor if he hadn’t made it as George. Kind of like Clint Howard.

Fun fact: Jason Alexander is the voice of one of Janeway's officers on Prodigy. The Tellarite, if I'm remembering correctly (not Jankom Pog, the other one)

Star Trek crosses over with Star Trek. How quirky!
Boo.

I heard your response in Boimler's voice when he found out he'd been transporter-cloned.

This article could qualify as the weirdest article about TV shows of all time. The St. Elsewhere/Cheers and Ally McBeal/The Practice crossovers make perfect sense. They weren't weird, they were enjoyable.
I find it particularly weird when writers try to shoehorn their personal opinions on a broader audience... but that's just me.
I am glad LD & SNW got some love!

There is literally no reason to not put which list they made it onto in the title or post

That is some garbage journalism. The writing quality and substance us almost nonexistent.

I don't see what's so weird about a Trek show crossing over with another Trek show.

It was one of my favorite moments of that year. The episode itself was good, but the way they just suddenly released it early moments after the convention people got to see it, was just awesome. Lined up perfectly with my edible kicking in and while I was sitting down with some takeout. I was scrolling online looking for the first feedback and suddenly people were talking about it being available to stream for everyone.

If you told me when I grew up watching TNG one day a mature Star Trek Cartoon would cross over into live action Trek I wouldn't have believed you. But then again I wouldn't have believed the universe changing into a musical episode as well. I guess the standards of quality for Trek has certainly changed over the years. Now people want funny jokes and action rather than good writing with actual thought-provoking stories.

Rolling Stones' "Weirdest Crossovers of All Time" list, since OP didn't feel the need to specify.
