Does he actually work for NASA? I thought he was just some youtuber with a degree in theoretical physics or something.

I am pretty sure Derek have a degree in education. Not sure about physics.

Mark Rober is the one who worked for NASA

If you are talking about Mark, then yes he does say that in many of his videos. He worked on a probe that went to Mars.
