Watching an episode of cocomelon with my kid and...

Post image

It's 2025, man :(

Glad I can teach my kiddo proper fishkeeping with 3 tanks of our own.

Careful with the cocomelon.. its incredibly overstimulating.

I used to work in a children’s hospital and it’s as close to heroin for toddlers as you can get

She gets one video around lunchtime now. I've severely cut back, as I was going through a rough flare of depression and used it as too much of a crutch.

Is Bluey or a nature documentary not enough to get attention? My kids are still pretty young, so I haven't experienced the struggle yet.

Bluey is included sometimes in her tiny window of tv time, if im scrolling through Disney+ and she happens to see it. She loves the cocomelon characters, though, and she asks for them the most. I'm not an asshole, so I let her see the characters on screen from time to time, and she can sing the songs she likes.

She may also enjoy dory’s reef cam if you want another option. It’s a loops with no audible dialogue but underwater sounds (whale calls etc.) and is relatively low stimulus.

No judgement from me, just something my kid likes to watch that could be cycled in and out.

That sounds like something me as an adult would want to just watch

3

u/Okaloosa_Darter 14h ago

So it’s a pretty short loop otherwise 100%

I would recommend (in no particular order)

They aren’t animated but they are great!

Not aquarium or reef related but the Star Wars scapes on Disney plus are amazing too. Definitely check them out.

I second explore!! They also have their own app just called explore.org

They’ve somewhat recently added comments to the app and people will comment when animals are on screen on related cams

No joke if I ever have kids I’m having them watch little Einsteins

CLIMB ABOARD AND READY TO EXPLOREEE

I'm genuinely confused. How's it any different from any other shows made for toddlers?

Give it a google if youre interested, but basically it is all bright colors, repetitive songs, and fast paced edits are way too stimulating and addicting.

It's like a speedball for kids

15

u/Xx_scribbledragon_xX 1d ago

rapid cuts and bright colours basically make it mental crack for little kids

not good but at least its not the stereotypical goldfish bowl

13

u/Undhali 1d ago

All kinds of different shitty aquariums in the sub, for sure. Still shitty tho.

9

u/BorodacFromLT 1d ago

yea i meant that at least they aren't showing goldfish living in a bowl like most media for children does

7

u/memetoya 1d ago

Loved sesame street growing up, but I realized as an adult that Dorothy’s fish bowl was way too small lol

u/Undhali 1d ago

Hoping that's just a temporary tank for the video and they got a nice pond somewhere.

13

u/pickledprick0749 1d ago

Or borrowed the fish from a local shop

4

u/castles86 1d ago

That’s what I was thinking too!

15

u/SparkyDogPants 1d ago

Two goldfish of that size in a 55 gallon really isn’t that shitty. Fake decor and colorful gravel doesn’t make it shitty

4

u/trotting_pony 1d ago

That's so much larger than typical. Almost acceptable, if filtering is proper. But it's probably non-existent.

10

u/Special-Ad1635 1d ago

To be honest, it doesn’t look as bad as all others in this subreddit.

8

u/Undhali 1d ago

Yeah, but it's shitty so it belongs.

Oh, the colours actually made my brain and eyes hurt 😵‍💫🫨

My phone screen cried.

u/Agreeable-Jury-7520 16h ago

This doesn't look like cocomelon at all.

1

u/Undhali 15h ago

It's cocomelon playground, a different account of theirs. That's Ms. Appleberry

3

u/Im-Real 1d ago

Wait that doesn’t look too awful I thought it was like a 20 gallon but is it half of a larger tank? Like a 55 or a 75? That’s the minimum amount of water for them especially at that size it doesn’t look bad besides the decor as long as there’s a filter

6

u/Undhali 1d ago

Tbh i did think it was smaller, but I'm looking more thoroughly, and I think you're right. I don't wanna get in-depth, but I hate the idea of any goldfish not being in a pond still.

1

u/Justice_Prince 1d ago

Maybe I'm misjudging scale, but looks like a 29 gallon tank to me.

1

u/Im-Real 19h ago edited 16h ago

I thought so too but look at the top left it looks like it has that middle black bar support that larger tanks usually have and the glass continues but idk if it is a 29 then it definitely is bad 💔

*actually nvm it looks like the airline tube unfortunately

1

u/Undhali 15h ago

Yeah, there's just a bubbler, no filter, it seems.

2

u/swazi-wrestling 15h ago

This dumbass is judging the acceptable tank set up whilst everyone else is judging you for exposing your child to crack.

-1

u/Undhali 15h ago

Based on this comment, I can guess about 3 major things about you, but unlike you, I'm not resorting to being a bully. Also, asking questions is fine. I didn't really see any judging unless I missed something.

Good day.

3

u/swazi-wrestling 14h ago

Have another read through the comments. People are literally calling you a bad mom.

2

u/absisnwnwo 1d ago

bad mom

5

u/Blackmetal666x 1d ago

Agreed allowing your child to watch this garbage is literally rotting their brain

2

u/expectdelays 20h ago

When my daughter was 3 we turned on cocomelon one day when we needed to just wind down and HOLY SHIT, instant brain capture. Then after 10 minutes we turned it off and my daughter started throwing a tantrum. Shit's horrible for kids

-2

u/Undhali 14h ago

That's crazy, we watch one random video for 30 mins a day in between other activities, and my daughter couldn't give a shit less when it goes off. Kids get angry at what you give and then take away. React less, and you'll see a decline in the behavior. Hope this unsolicited advice helps!

Facebook Marketplace is worse than this

1

u/Undhali 1d ago

Yup, there are varying degrees of shitty fishkeeping, for sure.

1

u/Curiominous 1d ago

still better than Elmo, tho.

HOW MANY DOROTHYS, ELMO???? HOOOOOW MANY?!!?

1

u/PitcherTrap 1d ago

Not sure if epilepsy, or stroke

1

u/Pristine-Credit-1660 15h ago

MY EYES THEY BURN

1

u/Undhali 15h ago

If mods want to remove it because it's not shitty, that's fine. I just think children would appreciate fake fish just as much as making a pair of goldfish swim in an unfiltered tank that they're already maxing out of. My two cents.

1

u/Luckyy2005 11h ago

Good god, the colors are hurting my eyes…

1

u/angel-facex 20h ago

how is it shitty? isn’t that a big tank?
