Question - Moving or Renting ๐ Property Manager Double Dipping
My apartment (In Saskatoon) complex is trying to have new tenants move in to my old apartment on November 29th when I have paid for the lease until November 30th and are not planning to reimburse me. I know this isn't right since they should pro rate the money back for those days, where can I call to back me up? The Saskatchewan rental association?
They want my last day to be November 28th even though I have paid for the month until the 30h. Does anyone know what I can do?
Update: thanks everyone for the help. I did mention it to them and instead of paying me out the two days, they are refunding my entire damage deposit. Otherwise they would have charged me for some blinds that were damaged ($100, apparently). I'm satisfied with my outcome and happy I said something! Thanks again!

Question - Moving or Renting ๐ Beware!!!!!!!! (Mainstreet Rentals)
"As a current tenant at Mainstreet Apartments, I want to share my experience to help families, especially those with small kids, make informed decisions. I've noticed a persistent odor that raises concerns about air quality and potential hazards like asbestos. This could pose serious health risks for children and adults alike.
I strongly recommend management address this issue and encourage potential renters to inquire about air quality testing before moving in. While the apartment has its conveniences, health and safety should be a top priority."

Question - Moving or Renting ๐ Moving to Saskatoon
Hi all,
My girlfriend, our pet, and I are seriously considering moving from Vancouver to Saskatoon next year, and Iโd love some advice from anyone whoโs made a similar move or has local knowledge. Weโve got a few questions:
- Weโve got around 100kg of belongings, no big furniture or bulky itemsโmostly clothes, kitchen stuff, and some personal items. Should we just buy extra luggage and check it in for the flight, or are there better and more economical ways to move our stuff? Has anyone used a shipping service or moving company that handles small loads like this efficiently?
- Whatโs the rental market like in Saskatoon? Weโd be looking for a pet-friendly place, ideally in a neighborhood thatโs safe and not too far from amenities (grocery stores, parks, etc.). Any recommendations on where to start looking, and how much should we budget for rent?
- How big of a shock will the winter be? Weโre used to Vancouver's mild winters, and I know Saskatoon gets cold. Whatโs the best way to prepare for the long winters, and how do locals handle it? Any must-have winter gear or tips for keeping sane during the cold months.
- Whatโs the vibe like in Saskatoon for young couples? We enjoy outdoor activities, eating out, and exploring local culture. Howโs the food scene? Any favorite restaurants, cafes, or hidden gems?
- How much does car insurance cost in Saskatchewan for a regular, non-luxury vehicle on average? Iโve had about two years of driving experience in BC. I have a class 7 licence which is equivalent to a 5N licence in Saskatoon I believe.
Thanks so much for any tips, suggestions, or experiences you can share.

Question - Moving or Renting ๐ Looking for family safe neighborhoods
Hi Saskatoon future neighbors,
We are a family of 4 from Ukraine looking to relocate to Saskatoon. We are looking for a house with good potential for future growth. We want to finish a basement or buy a finished basement to rent out. Our kids are still in elementary and high school so the neighborhood should be safe, with good schools and public transportation. Your advice would be tremendously appreciated. Thank you
Thank you

Question - Moving or Renting ๐ Vacant and boarded up home program?
Does Saskatoon have a program similar to this one in Winnipeg that is trying to target and remediate old, vacant, derelict or abandoned properties?
I remember this news story about a Saskatoon builder who was trying to flip these sorts of houses into nice rental units from last year. But not sure if the city incentivizes this sort of development the way it has an infill and intensification program/policy?
I'm still surprised that developers haven't been snatching up and flipping some of the sub-200K houses, even in less desirable neighborhoods, given that property in other provinces is out of reach and Saskatoon itself has a record low vacancy rate.
Seems the market should be matching some of the housing demand with these cheap units, but I'm not a developer or housing expert.

Question - Moving or Renting ๐ Need tenant insurance
Looking into tenant insurance (don't currently have it, but after seeing things get fried during the outage I know I need it). Yes I know i should've always had it, but my building didn't require it and I was low on cash when I moved in.
Broker suggestions? Or maybe insurance place suggestions? What is the average you pay? Any suggestions or tips you recommend while looking?

Question - Moving or Renting ๐ Grad student moving to Saskatoon in January, very nervous!
Hi everyone!
I did some digging around the subreddit and a lot of the information is pretty dated by 2024 standards, so I wanted to get some recent feedback or advice.
I'm starting my Master's at USask in January and just found out today that, despite being offered availability, there is in fact no availability in residence and I am now freaking out a bit trying to come up with a place to live.
I'm on a pretty tight budget (my grant is for 20k yearly, no TA work available, trying to apply for part time jobs already) so the prospects are slim. I've looked all around and most units are either too expensive or are private rooms advertised for women specifically, which won't work for me. I also don't have a vehicle so trying to figure out what places or areas are reasonable commutes to USask via transit or walking also complicates things.
I've seen some postings for Main Street buildings, but I know from experience from living in Calgary all my life that they aren't exactly great. Hopefully y'all have better insight on what renting from them in recent times in Saskatoon looks like.
I'm honestly just really nervous about the move altogether with leaving my family and friends behind and being alone in a city where I know nobody, so maybe that is causing the anxiety as well.
If I missed something or you'd like any clarification or extra info I'd be happy to chime in. Despite my anxiety over it all, I'm still excited to move to Saskatoon and experience what I hope to be a great city with great people.
Thanks everyone!!

Question - Moving or Renting ๐ Heated shop space/garage
I'm a carpenter that builds post-and-beam timber structures on the search for a heated shop space or garage for the month of December.
I'm looking for an alternative to the 3000$/mo service provided by SmallBays.com, something more like the above space ($1500?)
Would appreciate any leads, since something like this isn't generally covered by commercial real estate.

Question - Moving or Renting ๐ Restricted Access to Electricity Meter
Hello everyone.
I am currently renting an apartment and have an active contract with SaskPower. As part of the agreement, I am required to read and submit my electricity meter data to SaskPower every month. However, about a month ago, my landlord locked the area where the meters are located, preventing me from accessing my meter and monitoring my consumption.
While my landlord has informed me that SaskPower will read the data themselves, I would prefer to maintain control over this process by reading the meter myself, as I have been doing.
Does anyone know whether my landlord has the right to restrict access to the meter in this way? If not, could you please provide me with any relevant laws or regulations that support my right to access the meter?

Question - Moving or Renting ๐ Experiences renting at Traveler's Block?
I'll be moving at the end of October, and was considering renting one of the dingy little rooms at Traveler's Block. That's the one on third avenue with all the businesses on the main floor. I am not without my reservations...rooms seem to be tiny, the washrooms are shared and the area itself is sketchy. Is there anyone out there with experience that can allay my fears and/or drive me into a deeper state of sheer despair?

Question - Moving or Renting ๐ Express Address for Health Card
Hi, I recently moved inside the city and I used that express address site to switch power and everything else, I also included the eHealth info so that my health card gets updated, but I haven't received any info on my email or the new card on the mail either. Does anyone know if that service actually works? Or should I just do it again the usual way on their website
