Car break in, usual procedures? Question ❔

Some one has entered my car by breaking driver side windows, there wasn’t any thing in the car other than a petroleum jelly, manual book, phone charger, AirTag . Nothings lost everything’s still there. I believe they came in for a spare loonie, or a toonie. What should I do 1st? Call the cops? How do I claim insurance on this ?

You take it to an auto glass place and they’ll do the SGI thing. You’ll pay your deductable when the window is replaced. Speedy Glass on 22nd were smooth with my window replacement.

If you want to make a police report, do. Take pictures and submit them with it. Nothing will come of it, but some people want a track record or to bust a repeat offender.

For all the people saying “get a dash cam”, buddy, they will steal that too. And good luck getting a clear picture of anyone - I saw someone checking cars while I was walking my dog, and s/he was full on black parka/black balaclava/ski goggles and could have been anything from a teenaged girl to a skinwalker.

Speedy glass is probably best bet, even the one on circle by the Warman road overpass. We took company vehicles there and they were great to work with and well... Speedy.

Edit: yeah, unless you have a hardwired cam, with 4k resulotion and xray capabilities to see under their concealment (that part is total sarcasm), good luck. Cops probably won't do anything other than maybe drive through a couple times and then forget anything ever happened.

I would recommend taking it to a bodyshop, lots of times the breaking glass shards can cut your paint, and you often have to repaint the door to make sure there's no damage or bare metal, depending on how nice the vehicle is of course.

You’ll have to make a police report first before you make an insurance claim most likely.

Step one - cry a little Step two - take some pictures, then clean up the class Step Three - put a garbage bag/cardboard/blanket over your window to keep the snow out Step four - file a police report using online form https://saskatoonpolice.ca/onlinereporting/mischiefvehicle/ Step five - call a few auto class places to get quote, and if they have the glass you need in stalk. Unless you have a glass or package policy, the cost of a new window will probably be less than your deductible.

I feel for you. Were you near the downtown core. My vehicle was luckily skipped. But I feel for those who had their windows smashed in.

Make a police report online then you’ll get the report number you’ll need for SGI

I think lazer does a cheap transparent window cover if you need something to keep the weather out until you can get in

Deductible will cost more than a new window. I wouldn't even bother reporting it.

You should report it to the police, they use it for GPS locating where crime happens, also graffiti. Also if you don't have a package policy you may have a toss up on which one is cheaper.

File the police report first, sgi will need their reference number for your claim. You'll end up paying the deductible since SGI believes victims of crime should pay out of pocket if they can't find the criminal to collect from.

Report @ 306-975-8300 the not urgent call line. Unless you have package policy probably not cost efficient to claim insurance for the window.

Call the police to report, then you need to find out if this is home owners insurance or vehicle insurance for coverage.

It’s a broken window. Don’t use any insurance especially home insurance. It is not worth it for a couple hundred dollar window.

It is not worth it to go through insurance. Just take it somewhere and pay for a new window.
