World Geothermal Energy Day!!!
Hello, we're World Geothermal Energy Day!!
Once a year we celebrate on October 17th. Normally, selecting a date for an event is an easy task; the first nuclear power reaction (Fermi Chicago Pile - 1942), the first computer (ENIAC - 1946), and the first satellite launch into space (Sputnik - 1957). Selecting a unique date for the inception of geothermal energy is an impossible task. However, we've selected a date in the annals of high impact thermal events; the explosive eruption of Mt. Vesuvius and the impact it had on the innocent people of Pompeii. Most all of us first learned about this event while in elementary school or high school, and it still brings attention and interest to adults around the world. This event still resonates with us all. While the actual date is still in dispute, we've selected the provocative new date of October 17 in 79 AD; nearly two thousand years ago!
This is the one day when people around the globe celebrate the virtues and benefits of geothermal, open their shops for tours (both virtual and physical), discuss new technologies, and work to include geothermal in legislation at the local, regional, national and international levels.

Is the push for renewable energy truly about saving the planet, or is it just a new market for corporate profit in the energy sector?

Geothermal
My home is 100 years old. my basement has a dirt floor, would it be possible to install in the basement? I am reading both yes and no answers and it's making it difficult to decide. I live in Maine if that matters?

Renewable Energy Market Timing (Interest Rates)
Hello fellow Redditors!
It's been a long time since my last post but I wanted to ask you for a piece of advice.
I have been looking into renewable energy companies and those that I believe will be largely profitable (and beneficial to the society) in the future. I am not a pro, just a college student who recognizes a lot of bullshit around him, and wants to get involved in something meaningful.
That said - what are your thoughts on clean energy investments? I know the interest rates are unfavorable right now but how long should I wait?
I am especially interested in the following sectors/companies:
1) First Solar, 2) Jinko Solar, (and more solar/wind), 3) HASI (Hannon Armstrong Sustainable Infrastructure), 4) Lithium Extraction Companies, 5) QuantumScape, 6) Charging Stations (EVgo, Blink Charging, Plug Power, ...)
Tl;dr: Thoughts on green energy investments and timing of the market? Thank you 💚

Can't we produce electricity using heat pumps?
Heat pumps have an efficiency of 300% to 400%. If we use renewables to power a heat pump which in turn heats a malten salt or sand heat storage in a insulated environment. Later we can use that heat to burn water and turn steam turbines to produce electricity.
Would this concept work in real world?

Which modes of transport will consume the highest amount of total renewable power in the future?
If we include all modes of transport and we set ourselves in the future, as fossil fuels will become more and more scarce, we will need to look for other alternatives
If all renewable power and electricity that will be invested for transport in the future is considered (and we consider both direct electrification of vehicles or indirect use through the synthesis of e-fuels) which modes of transport will be the biggest consumers? Can you rank them?:
Aviation
Maritime
Road
Railway
PS: for all modes of transport I'm considering both passenger and freight types of transport

Contract work with Next Era Energy
I am considering accepting a contract position in the commercial solar division as a project estimator for a 12-month duration. Should there be good possibility of contract extension if I perform well, or should I stay away from contract work?

A New Dawn for Aden: UAE's Solar Power Plant Embodies Resilience and Sustainability
The UAE-backed solar power plant in Aden marked a momentous milestone that embodies aspiration and strength for a town that has for long had electricity inadequacies and been plagued by neglect from the government. Yemeni leaders who graced the event exhibited how large-scale and advanced it was through installing more than 211,000 solar panels, 900 km of power cables as well as 12 substations covering a large area. This project shows how serious UAE is regarding Yemen's sustainability with over 2000 workers who have worked 1.3 million hours without accidents. The Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak praised Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company as well as United Arab Emirates for initiating such an important renewable energy project in their respective nation. This strategy project doesn't only address the urgent energy needs but aligns well with global climate goals and it shows UAE's lead in environmental conservation as well as international collaboration

Renewable energy experts
Dear renewable energy professionals, I have been reading and researching the evolving arguments around the cost of developing renewable projects.
Interestingly, there are too many generic solutions. So i have a question: What are the costs of getting it wrong in renewable projects and why is it important to create awareness on this?
