Any chance of changing the video display when viewing comments back to the old version that was docked on top for iOS? This new floating video is not a good user experience. It blocks the comments, gets in the way when scrolling, and if you reposition it that’s not even persistent so you need to move it every time you want to read the comments on a video.

u/CorrectScale Reddit Admin Mar 16 '23
There's no setting that will allow you to revert back to the old behavior. However, you can disable this pop out video from appearing within the comment section.
To disable, head over to the in-app settings page > scroll down to "Advanced" > disable "Show media player in comment view".

u/danraps Mar 16 '23
Thanks for responding! I did find that setting but that’s also not really ideal. A lot of the time, if a video looks interesting I’ll tap on it before I’ve finished watching so I can scan through the comments at the same time. The old layout worked very well for this, since the media and comments had distinct sections. The new layout basically makes you prioritize one over the other.

Definitely understand your point. I'll share your feedback with the team!

Is anyone else getting the watermark back when downloading images even though image attribution is turned off? This just started with this update
6
u/DagonPie Mar 16 '23
Yes just saw your comment after posting the same thing. Its annoying because its bigger and more obnoxious than the old version lol
1
u/comradecostanza Mar 18 '23
Yeah I noticed. I tried turning it on and saving an image, and the only difference is that the Reddit logo is on the watermark now. So turning off saved image attribution now just removes the Reddit logo, not the watermark.

Are we meant to be unable to swipe between popular posts now? I now have to exit the post everytime to get to another, instead of simple swiping. That just straight up kills my reddit sessions. Irritating.
2
u/SaltedAndSugared Mar 18 '23
I was wondering if it was just my phone. They need to change it back to how it was it’s incredibly annoying
2
u/Character_Calendar52 Mar 21 '23
Omg this has been happening to me too on IPhone, I thought it was me and tried deleting the app and redownloading but seems like it’s not just me
1
u/elinxo Mar 19 '23
Yeah, the ux when exiting a post and clicking into a new one each time is just terrible
1
u/Kdawg1213 iOS 13 (no longer supported) Mar 20 '23
Needs to be reverted 100%. Horrible thing to change. I will just switch to a different app that has this functionality. It’s extremely unintuitive to make someone Exit the post every time and scroll down, then click the next post instead of simply swiping right to the next post. Terrible

u/SweetMelissa77 Mar 16 '23
The sort feature on the news is gone. I was able to sort by politics or technology or business. Is that feature gone now, or will it return?
3
u/CloudFlower28 Mar 18 '23
This needs to be fixed ASAP!! Only one news feed is ruining my experience
1
u/SweetMelissa77 Apr 11 '23
It came back for a few weeks. I was so happy. Now it’s gone again. Please bring it back!!!
5
u/VerdensTrial Mar 18 '23
So we just don't get to sort our home timeline chronologically now? What in the actual tapdancing christ were you guys thinking?
No one wants your garbage algorithmic timeline. No one wants day-old posts showing up before new ones. You're turning Reddit into Facebook with this trash.
2
u/TheRagingRapids Mar 15 '23
Can we no longer sort comments? I don’t see an option anymore to sort comments by best, new, controversial and what not.

u/AngooseTheC00t Mar 18 '23
Can we swap back to the original share page? This new one is very confusing and it doesn’t look like you can save videos anymore??? The button says “save image” now and it saves a single frame of the video. PLEASE fix this.

u/rursache iOS 16 Mar 16 '23
how can i switch back to the default share sheet on iOS? now i need to do at least another action before actually sharing. what does this change achieve?
3
2
u/iAdjunct Mar 18 '23
I came here to post this exact same thing. The new share sheet is so unbelievably annoying, especially since I often share to recent Messages groups (the new one requires me to type it in like the YouTube app does, but the iOS share sheet lets me select recent ones).
Luckily you can click “Share Via…” and get the iOS share sheet, but why should I have to click a second time to get an actually useful share sheet every time?

Agreed. This new non-standard share sheet is annoying, fiddly and doesn’t fit in well with iOS UI conventions.
People don’t want to have to learn multiple different share sheet UIs, so please at the very least allow fit to be toggled back to the OS default via Settings
Edit: there’s also a bug when saving images via the new share-sheet Download option. It ignore your image attribution settings.
And there’s an inconsistency in behaviour when viewing multi-image posts. The Download option is missing and you have to press the Share option to the get the standard iOS share sheet up to then press the Save Image option. This is super annoying!

u/Blythyvxr iOS 15 Mar 17 '23
I hate the new share process on iOS.
I share countless images from Reddit during the day to my bf via what’s app, and it was a 2 step process: Tap share, tap their WhatsApp profile image. Done.
Now, it’s tap share, tap WhatsApp icon, then wait for WhatsApp to load, then send via WhatsApp. It’s worse than before.

Why are the release notes incoherent nonsense now? You're clearly making changes that break things. And you don't even post known issues!
3
u/Tim5corpion Mar 18 '23
Yeah, I expect something a lot more than a canned "Hit that update button for the freshest, shiniest, meme-ist (?) version of the Reddit app." Especially when a lot of people are complaining about bugs that have gone unfixed for days.

u/Less_Hedgehog Mar 19 '23
They used to have release notes. They must be under new management....

Did the font/text change for title posts on Android? I feel like it looks different, like it's bolder with the letters closer together
Edit: the font hurts my eyes to look at which it previously didn't before.

The new update however shows thumbnails regardless of the setting
I believe the team was working on addressing this one. It seems to be fixed on my end, can you double check to see if you're on 2023.10 > force quit the app > relaunch to see if you're still having trouble?
On that note, the thumbnails work fine in “classic” view but in “card” they show as a generic white-out camera icon.
Thanks for pointing that out. I'm able to reproduce and will notify the team.

I can’t view it individual subreddits. The wheel just spins. I can only access anything through the feed

u/Katie0690 iOS 16 Mar 18 '23
I’ve given up on using the app on my phone until this is fixed. Works fine on my iPad though. Both are running iOS 16.3.1

Any chance that bug where the thumbnail shows something completely different is gone?
1
u/CorrectScale Reddit Admin Mar 16 '23
This doesn't seem to be an issue on the latest version. Can you share some additional context so I can verify?
2
u/kballs Mar 16 '23
When viewing a post from the homepage, it will say something like ‘The view from my window’ and it will have a picture of Ron Swanson in the thumbnail. I tap on it to see it and it’s what the post is intended to be
1
u/CorrectScale Reddit Admin Mar 16 '23
I see, I'll check with the team to make sure that this is on the radar.

Please fix the disappearing comment box. I'll post a comment and then the box just goes away and the only way to fix it is to leave the topic I am in and then go back. Really frustrating when trying to take part in live discussions.

Mar 17 '23
Please bring share to chat back. Otherwise sharing is so frustrating: tap-share-copy link-go to chat-paste
1
u/CorrectScale Reddit Admin Mar 17 '23
Share to chat will be coming back! The team is working on migrating some chat features, and as a result this option has been disabled for a bit.

Why don’t the thumbnails show any info anymore? Now I don’t know if I’m about to open a picture or a website. And I don’t want to open links that take me to Fox or Twitter.
1
u/CorrectScale Reddit Admin Mar 17 '23
Sorry about that! This is a bug, and the team is currently investigating a fix.
1
u/Katie0690 iOS 16 Mar 17 '23
My app is now broken. I am only able to view what’s on my main feed, if I click to go to one of my communities I just get a spinning wheel.
1
u/XxLostsoul321xX Mar 17 '23
Is there an issue with starting chats with other users? Since the update I'm unable to start a chat and get something along the lines of "something went wrong"

Yes I have been having issues. When I click on Start Chat it does nothing at all. Has been doing this since the 2023.8 update.

I hope this update has fixed the chat problems. Click on a user name which opens the screen that says View Profile Start Chat Block User Click on Start Chat and it does nothing. Started doing this back on the 2023.8 update. Please fix

u/ExpendableAnomaly Mar 18 '23
anyone else now unable to save the images in multiple-image slideshows?

u/ernbrdn Mar 18 '23
How do I enable comment searching on iOS? It’s something I’ve been waiting on forever but it doesn’t work on my account. Anonymous account it works but it’s like my account is stuck in the past.

The “disable this type of notification” button does absolutely nothing, I still keep receiving the super annoying “your post got 5 upvotes!”, “Recommended blah blah” etc notifications no matter how many times I try to opt out.

u/TVPaulD Mar 20 '23
I really don’t understand what the need for the new in-app Share Sheet on iOS/iPadOS was, the native Share Sheet worked way better. But if you’re going to shove it in there, could you not at least have made sure it works correctly first? I see there’s a pending fix for it not respecting the image attribution setting, though it’s still odd you shipped it without checking that, but there’s also the issue with “Download” not being an option for images in Galleries, requiring you to bust through it to the native Share Sheet anyway
Also, why is it not mentioned in the “Release Notes”? Stop making big changes and pretending you haven’t.
And it’s been how long since you pointlessly moved the Comment Sorting Options to a less convenient place and you still haven’t addressed the fact this makes them impossible to sort for Posts in a Collection?

The “saved image attribution” setting is no longer working. Even when its off it still has a banner at the bottom of the image.
